QuoteActing Fire Commissioner Ernie Richardson and Chief of Operations Thomas Duffy are apparently the two latest appointees of Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas' administration to call it quits.
Sources say the veteran firefighters recently submitted their resignations, but it is unclear why.

If you're someone who'd be directly affected by this I'd imagine you'd have a better source than this website. If this post was about my department I sure wouldn't want to hear about it here first.
I understand the original poster is just looking for info but this isn't the right place. If it's true it'll come out and we'll all hear about it soon enough, if it's false then we're just causing people to worry over nothing.
I disagree. I'm sure, in situations like Port Chester, they'd rather see it here first then when they showed up at work with an action that came out of nowhere? I know I'd sure want a heads up no matter how the information came about so action can be taken ASAP.

QuoteMount Vernon will have to pay more than $200,000 to a retired firefighter after an appellate court found the city inappropriately cut off his disability payments in 2009.
Masullo joined the Mount Vernon Fire Department in 1990. He suffered a serious injury the following year when he fell 60 feet off an aerial ladder when the fire truck flipped onto its side.

SPRING VALLEY — Rockland’s water company has partially walked back from its refusal to provide the volunteer fire department with what one official called critical information about the village's water supply.
Suez has agreed to give the village’s fire department previously classified data about where all fire hydrants are located, and their recent pressure readings and flow rates, said Bill Madden, director of external affairs with Suez New York.

QuoteFlorida Widow Blames Firehouse Subs’ Firefighter Theme for Husband’s Choking Death
Firehouse Subs is a chain restaurant that whips up hot sandwiches. The shop has a firefighting theme: firefighters’ equipment and memorabilia are mounted on the walls in stores. However, according to one lawsuit filed last month in Palm Beach County, this firefighting theme and décor was taken literally by staff, making some believe that they, too, could save lives.

According to MSA it's not available yet. It's also not hands free, or silica free.

MSA wishes. The gauge mounted technology they showcased was basically a pedometer and they claimed that it was going to that base for a lot of other technologies..in the future. It's basically the same as looking down at a TIC so I don't see the point. When they told me the gauge was kept dry by a silica pack that you have to change every month and I couldn't bang the demo against the display I laughed and walked away.

QuoteSUBMITTED BY THE GARDEN CITY BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Recently, the Village faced the difficult task of developing a 2016-2017 budget that complied with the state-imposed tax cap and limited tax increases to no more than the rate of inflation. To help control costs, the budget eliminated 5 personnel positions from across all Village departments, including 2 of our 18 paid, unionized firefighters.
Now, our paid firefighters are circulating a petition suggesting the Village should study the risk of reducing our complement of paid firefighters by 2 positions. In response, the Village notes the following:

QuoteINGRAM PA (KDKA)- The Ingram Borough Council voted to enter into a fire protection agreement with the City of Pittsburgh, meaning the local volunteer fire company will be shut down.
The council members approved the intergovernmental agreement 6-1 at last night’s meeting. The meeting was very tense, as concerned citizens, firefighters and the council argued about the decision.
Police were at the meeting to make sure nothing got out of hand. After the decision was handed down, concerned neighbors and firefighters yelled at the council. Some residents said they were considering leaving Ingram because of this decision.
In the end, the council said this decision came down to the money. They claimed it will be cheaper for taxpayers and the borough to pay the City of Pittsburgh for fire protection.
“With the city, it’s a fixed cost over the next five years,” said Council President Sam Nucci. “No unforeseen things, no additional vehicles, no additional liabilities. You add on other things they (Ingram Volunteer Fire Company) need, it would total $1.5 million.”
The agreement for fire protection goes into effect immediately, meaning the Ingram Volunteer Fire Company is out of commission starting today.

QuoteTARRYTOWN - It was the idea of serving her community that appealed to Kelly Murphy when she joined the Tarrytown Volunteer Fire Department 12 years ago, and the "brotherhood and camaraderie," that made her stay. Those who know Murphy said it's her smarts, work ethic and demeanor that got her elected as the first woman chief in the department's 139-year history.
