Its a joke, and the way you all stand up for these incompetent people is also a joke. No one here can ever just agree when someone criticizes, it is always the person with the complaint who is wrong. This is the same apathy that many people deal with when dealing with municipal workers, always the reason when people ask me for help or a stupid question I take the time to answer it or help them get the information they want. This lazy POS was sitting in a chair in an office not doing 55 mph on a highway in a 4k pound missle.
I am so glad I don't have to work with many of you, cause you would have a miserable time.

I don't blame anybody for being lost in the area of the TMC. when you're southbound on the Taconic and approach the split, 2 different signs seem to indicate that you're getting on the bronx river parkway. There is a sign (very popular with vandals, thieves, spinning cars, and/or overzealous DOT lawnmowers) that is occasionally displayed in the first half mile or so indicating that you are still on the TSP after following the signs for the BRP. A further source of confusion occurs because the sprain brook and the Bronx river parkways eventually do interchange - in Yonkers.
The DOT has a history of misleading signs; a number of years ago they were written up in the paper for some crazy mileage quotes. Did you ever go east on route 35 from route 100 and try to follow the very large sign telling you that your second left turn takes you to 684 north? try taking that second left....
Now that I mentioned route 35 (in somers?) I recall an incident a few years ago where a 60 control dispatcher had a different name for that road that they are required to use.
I like 60-control dispatchers, for about the first 90 seconds of a telephone call. their required list of questions gets a little annoying.
I have a friend that worked at the TMC who is competent, able to communicate, and has good local knowledge.(possibly the only such person) I enjoy telling this person some of the funnier episodes from dealing with them, like when they were trying to tell me that a call was in my jurisdiction because their caller thought so ( I kept transferring it back to TMC, they kept trying to give it back)even though it was miles away. I suggested that they could try calling their state senator or assemblyman to explain their uh, joy. I also enjoyed having to tell a TMC dispatcher that a traffic circle is round.......
I was speculating once about what their personnel problem stemmed from, and it was confirmed to me that the following scenario is not too far off:
A welfare momma in ?Queens? comes across a job announcement for a state job. minimal qualifications, maybe a test? they apply and get the job.Great! One more taxpayer. They end up getting assigned to ?Manage Transportation?! at the TMC in hawthorne, despite having no local knowledge,no polce experience, no car, no driving experience or license, and they take trains and buses (which don't use the parkway system) to get to work.
I can also relate to the comments about mile markers, but I had a bad experience a few weeks ago.
I was driving west on route 119 leaving white plains and entering Greenburgh and got on the ramp from 119 to 287, west. A car in front of me suddenly veered into the curb as the front suspension of the car collapsed as one or more of those "arms" things broke -pittman, idler, rocker? The female operator then had one of her young children get out of the car to look at the front end.
Knowing that the "service by permit only" sign 200 yards back was going to make this a Thruway problem, I called TMC to get connected to nysp troop t. I reached a dispatcher for troop T who apparently did not know where the above location was, had never heard of white plains or greenburgh, refused to acknowledge that she might have access to a map, refused to dispatch anybody to help and refused to believe that there are no mile posts on the exit or entrance ramp. she refused to state where she was, which was a topic that came up when i pointed out that these were state highways in new york and I thought I had called a new york agency. you can only hand some people so much.....

Im not admitting I was wrong cause I wasn't. I am driving a car, reporting a dangerous situation, not sitting in an office. I am attempting to do something much more important for my own safety than someone else's. Sorry for my selfishness. The van was about a quarter mile south from the 9A entrance to the Taconic in the Southbound lane, how much more exact can I be? The road is three lanes wide and the mile marker is in the right lane. Had I called and spoke to a Trooper they would have said no problem as they would actually know where I was talking about. I guess all of you just assume you should get the bottom of the barrel and when you don't you should be pleasantly surprised. When you call an FDNY dispatcher and report anything they know what you are talking about, cause they know the area, streets, companies, pct's, probably even know the CON ED supervisor that covers the area. This person was useless. And please identify where it is you work that you have such superior dispatching. Half the time I listen to the radio locally the only good ones I hear are ones that do it in house, not out of some central unit with the exception of the Putnam County Sheriff.

Kudos to the Bloomberg Administration for taking a stance to the Vulcans. At least he won't back down to them like others. AFD does not stay in their own neighborhood, I have seen them all over the East Bronx, from top to bottom, in the South Bronx, and I have seen them up on the Hutch by the Westchester line, they just hop in their rig and ride around the Bronx, buffing jobs.
I heard from several people, that when AFD shut down after 9/11, it seems a couple of them banded together and formed the "Volunteer Bronx Fire Patrol". They would ride around and buff jobs in an privately registered SUV (not any volley rig, but a personal car)) that had flashing lights and cheap stickers marking it as the "Bronx Volunteer Fire Patrol". I encountered two of them at a vehicle accident, maybe five years ago or so- ( I am NYPD and was operating at the accident) and, never having heard of the "Bronx Fire Patrol" ( I am also a former member of the New York Fire Patrol,) so l wondered who they were. They got out of the rig, and without asking the NYPD or FDNY what was happening, they just started directing traffic. The did this without asking NYPD or FDNY, or even telling us so that we might coordinate efforts. I asked them a couple of simple questions, like "who are you guys-who sent you here? and I received no satifactory answer, other than ...."Uhh"..."who" "what"...."daba daba"... and related comments. I went over to a Battalion aide and asked if he knew who they were, he said he had seen them at jobs before, but did not know who they were. With that, it seemed that as soon as I turned my back, they hopped into their SUV and left the scene before I could ask any more questions.. I said to myself that the next time I saw them, I would make it so that they would receive many summones (or arrest) and impound the car. I was transferred shortly after that to another assignment that took me out of the area, I regret not taking the time out that day to go track down the SUV and put it on paper.

People are injured/killed intervening in law enforcement incidents all the time. However, and these are just a couple of examples, good samaritans saved countless lives when they retook control of Flight 93 on 9/11 and train riders subdued Colin Ferguson during his shooting rampage on the LIRR so there are examples.
These humans were trying to save other humans trapped in a burning building. They were not professionals nor were they probably aware of the hazards associated with their actions but they did try to do something when others routinely stand idly by. I won't be so quick to condemn them.

That certainly may be the case. But I personally won't vilify these bystanders for doing what they thought was right. They followed their instincts and a certain degree of human nature and attempted to help those in need, when no others could. I'm willing to bet that good Samaritans, over time, have done far, far more good than harm.

That we should not get into this position bears repeating. Going into a dangerous situation without the resources to get the job done not professional. And depending on what kind of smoke it is, a little might kill you.
When working through an 'I'd risk my life if I had to...' scenario like this..... well of course we will all say, yes we'd risk our lives to save another person [preferably an adorable 3 year old and not a felonious, disease encrusted, drug dealer]. But on some level, allowing ourselves the luxury of considering our own heroism encourages the behavior.
Depending on how this scenario plays out, there are three dead people. Taking the approach that in the absence of adequate resources that the victim must be left behind may be useful in the long run. If we don't get to be the hero unless we are prepared, then maybe we will take the extra time to check the gear, switch out a low tank and to ask ourselves what will we do when this goes bad BEFORE we go into the building.
That said, if it's low probability of death and the victim is viable and just darling, then I'd take the chance. If the probability of none of us making it out is high, then the drug dealer is on his own until I can get a fresh tank of air. And then I'd find another line of work because making a mistake in an office is a whole lot different from making a mistake on the fireground.

Reporting the operators of vehicles involved in serious accidents is not uncommon.
Noting the associations and/or relationships of those involved is also a common media tactic so we shouldn't be surprised that it was reported. Right, wrong, or indifferent that's how the media operates. Some would call it irony.
Finally, the accident was two days ago and is under investigation. Charges and/or fault has yet to be determined; summonses are rarely issued at the scene of such an accident and it is currently unknown if such action is appropriate.
After staff discussion, in light of the unusual nature of this incident and involved parties, this thread is being closed. It may be reopened at a future time if conditions warrant. Thank you for your understanding.

The County Coordinator assists with mutual-aid. NFD definatley had command and had several chiefs on scene.

If "cmd" stands for Command, I don't think so. We can't hear what the county radio traffic is, so I don't know how long before Car 1 gave his update. The fire isn't under control in Newburgh, until Newburgh command, not the county, declare the fire under control.

I don't (ever) post because I often feel like I have nothing to add. I have no experience other than as family. My grandfather was FDNY. My brothers were volunteers in Dutchess County.
But I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to each and every one of you. As a family member, I understand the sacrifices you make, the training you make time for and the time you are away from your families, friends and other activities so you can serve your community in the most amazing way I can think of.
I salute your bravery, your commitment and your expertise. Our communities are better places because you live, work and volunteer here.
Consider this a long distance hug from a very grateful community member.

I had a few gripes here -- which were PM'd and e-mailed to a few folks (none of which replied to me...)
First, as the original poster, I was never notified the post was removed, but it simply "disappeared". No notification to the originator, at least a professional curtsey.
Secondly, I felt the thread (minus the "me vs you" comments) was very educational for the members of this community. While it is a black eye for our industry, what better opportunity to learn from.
Third, we see tons of threads in this community that are "locked" and "cooled down" -- yet, for some reason, this one was straight out removed.
Fourth, it's been quite a few days since the thread was removed and this is the first public acknowledgement that it was done -- nothing was done at the time, just simply vanished in thin air.
It's no doubt the EMTBravo staff have a huge job on their hands -- but we're not kids here, treat us like adults and we'll treat you back.

highwaybuff liked a post in a topic by TRUCK6018 in Orange County Choppers Headquarters Foreclosure
Many of the Teutul's business dealings appear less than legitimate. Case in point the bankruptcy of Orange County Ironworks in 2005.
After being sued by a contractor for breach of contract (and the courts siding with the contractor in the tune of a judgement for $1.3 million) the business filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection. The problem was that prior to filing, all of the company's assets (equipment, employees, other assets) were transferred to "Orange County Ironworks LLC" for less than fair compensation and Orange County Ironworks ceased operations.
Once the former company filed bankruptcy and the bankruptcy courts ordered all assets liquidated, they claimed their only assets were "accounts receivable" (owed money that was non collectable)in the amount of just under $600,000. As an end result there was a settlement proposed that the new Orange County Ironworks LLC pay a $500,000 settlement to the trustee of the bankruptcy case to distribute to creditors. Part of the settlement included a gag order barring the any of the key players from discussing the settlement.
One interesting point of this whole debacle is that while Paul Senior and Junior are listed as defendants in the settlement. It was only Danny and the business ordered to pay the settlement.
More recently OCC, American Chopper and Discovery Channel was sued by Justin Barnes and "JB Graphix" for copyright infringement. Justin alleges that 18 original designs were copied without his authorization and compensation and then incorporated in merchandise tied into the business of OCC and American Chopper. Former employee Cody Connelly also sued Senior and OCC.
All of these known legal issues makes you wonder what else is going on. After all Nub's Graphics also had problems with Senior as played out in the first season of Senior vs. Junior. Another former employee Vinnie DiMartino had a fallout with Senior but never went on record in discussing the circumstances.
Fast forward to today with the foreclosure issues and the attempts of "G&M Orange LLC", with Senior listed as owner, to build a bike business on an adjacent property to OCC. This was the building that was proposed to have a restaurant. While the new building didn't formally get turned down from being built, back in March Senior approached the Orange County Industrial Development Agency to provide tax breaks for the project. This is what was turned down. Because of the foreclosure the agency could not in good conscience provide tax breaks for the new venture.
