  1. Just got back from the Fairgrounds. Set-up for the show is progressing nicely. Both of Middletown's new engines, plus a tanker for Hortonville (Sullivan Co.) are in the building, as are the two previously mentioned antiques. Confirmed.....Ed May will be doing some gold leaf work on the '23 ALF during the show. All in all, should be a decent event.
  2. July 11 - Port Jervis (Orange Co.) July 11 - Nassau (and probably Suffolk, too) Co. Parade Aug 29 - Boonton, NJ Aug 29 - Sullivan Co. VFA parade in Wurtsboro Sept. 5 - Goshen (Orange Co.) Sept. 12 - Rockland Co. VFA in Tallman Sept. 26 - Orange Co. VFA in Walden Oct. 3 - Middletown FD 150th Anniversary parade Oct. 3 - Orangetown 175th Anniversary (Nyack - Rockland Co.) Oct. 3 - Sussex Co. VFA (Location?)
  3. Entrance fee = $5 Vendor list: Call the number on the site, or e-mail them. On the flyer, Asst. Chief Amodio seems to be the contact person. He can probably help you there.
  4. Seems to be more of a get together/social event. Haven't heard anything about who the funds will benefit.....they'll probably just offset the cost of having it.
  5. The Expo is being held as part of the year-long celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the City of Middletown Fire Department. They're calling it "First Annual" as the plan is for it to be an annual event if it is successful.
  6. I am told that KME will be displaying at least one (if not both) of Middletown's two new engines. Also, in addition to all the rigs, tools, gear and "buff stuff", the Catskill Fire Cats (Catskill Chapter, SPAAMFAA) will be displaying Monhagen Hose & Salvage's (Middletown Engine 1) 1923 ALF pumper, on public display for the first time since it's restoration. Rumor (not confirmed) has it that Ed May will be gold leafing it at the show. Also on display will be a 1936 FWD custom pumper, which was featured on the front cover of Fire Apparatus Journal a few issues back.....one of the "crown jewels" of the Andy Leider collection. Should be a good time.
  7. Nice looking rig. Best of luck with it.
  8. License revoked for prior speeding charges, or something to that effect. Guy had no business being behind the wheel, and he was still doing the very same thing which got him in trouble to begin with. Moments ago, Town of Wallkill officers were dispatched to Ingrassia Road in the area of yesterday's incident. Caller reports 12-15 cars in the area, some of which have been racing up and down the road at times. Friends of the deceased paying tribute, perhaps?
  9. Where was it reported that the officer was ejected? From the looks of the other car (seen in video clip), the safe assumption would be that it was the driver of the other car who was ejected, and succumbed to his injuries as a result. Until the Record posted that report, there was no indication that it was even a two-person unit. The male officer called it in, and said nothing over the air about a partner. Must have been a slow news day in the city. Apparently a crew from Channel 2 came up to report on it.
  10. Catskill Fire Cats' annual muster (and "open house"....hopefully!) is June 6. That's as good a time as any.
  11. You better keep close tabs on that FWD......they're one of Mr. Leider's favorites.
  12. The "400" number is a bit of an exaggeration. It was only 237 at one of the last meetings. Either way, I guess the lull in purchasing has worn off......but where are they all gonna fit?! (EDIT: The more I think of it, 400 may not be too far off for his entire collection.....but they're not all stored in one place.) Even if he does get the CO (goes before town planning board on 2/4), we'll still have to empty out a bunch of stuff so there will be room to walk around in there!
  13. I see a Seagrave logo on Campbell's website, but as of last night, they were not mentioned by name. It does say they're the Crimson dealer for upstate areas now, and Wheeled Coach has been added within the past few months as well. Somebody on another board said that their lot was full of FDNY Seagraves during a visit last fall. Wonder what happened with Seagrave Sales & Service? Maybe just overburdened and outsourcing some of it? How long has Campbell had a Pennsylvania location? Maybe I just missed it in the past, or wasn't paying attention? I know they just closed their Long Island facility, but downsizing right before adding all these extra lines doesn't make sense. Oh well.....hopefully things work out for them.
  14. I've been to it a couple of times. One time, they utilized the main Coliseum as well, and had the whole floor full of stuff, including the extrication demo. The next year, the Coliseum was full of kids playing soccer, and the show was restricted to the Exhibit Hall and surrounding hallways. Whether it's worth it or not is a matter of opinion. I don't think the Coliseum is being used this year, although one could joke that they need that floor space for the Ferrara booth....LOL!
  15. Ahh, I see. Thanks for the explanation.
  16. Maybe I missed something, but didn't anyone else find it a bit strange that the FD was already ON SCENE before the sprinklers went off?
  17. They weren't responding TO a call, they were returning from one. Possibly enroute to get fuel, as the area where it happened is a bit outside of their response area. At least they got the department right. At the time it happened, some sources were reporting the unit involved as being Circleville's year-old heavy rescue. Guess they didn't listen closely enough to the scanner.
  18. Nice rig. Best of luck with it. When's the wetdown?!?
  19. Sorry to hear of this terrible event. May FF Stephens rest in peace. Thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and colleagues, as well as the driver of the apparatus involved.
  20. Congrats, guys! I wish there were more departments around who had that much interest among the membership (especially from the younger guys) in saving and/or preserving their "old iron". Way to go! Looking forward to the restoration updates.
  21. Seems like it was just a few weeks ago that we read about EMTBravo's fifth birthday. Time just goes by waaaaay too fast anymore...... Happy 6th, anyway!
  22. There's no shortage of musters, shows and parades around, if you don't mind a little road trip now and then. As for the road trip part......anybody got a CDL? You need that, too.
  23. I think this is the first time I've ever seen a fire apparatus referred to by the upcoming model year, like a normal vehicle. Beautiful rig. Hope it performs as well as it looks. Best of luck!
  24. I saw the reply from you and was HOPING that it would be an update from a "little birdie" about the new owner and/or location of said rig. Oh well.......
