Real call , myself as MPO and my partner where getting many phone calls about a cat in a tree, after about 5 calls we made up our minds that we were going to put a stop to this. We took Engine 58 out to the street that we were getting the calls, as my partner was talking to the crazy lady that would not stop I put the engine in pump rasied the trottle and climed up to the deck gun got it in place and yelled down that we were ready to take the cat out of the tree .Engine 58 in service! NO MORE PHONE CALLS !

I don't think anyone with a higher class felony should be allowed in any emergency service under any conditions...period. With action comes consequence...many wouldnt be able to get hired as a professional with their convictions..why should it not be the same standard on the volunteer side?

Thats a J-12 12cyl being put back in as the mechanic is riding the back of the V block to lower it so it can slip by the turntable on that 700 Amercain Lafrance ladder 32. Did a few of those with A.J.Qurik back in the day!

Another point to bring up, as it was mentioned earlier in this thread in regards to pulling mutuail aid units to the scene.
It is common to "stagger" or pull resources from different areas, which the majority of the time, makes sense so as to not deplete one township or city. I agree with this for the most part.
However, during an incident such as this, a complex and critical situation, do you feel it might more prudent to use any or all appropriate resource in the area immediatly, then backfill with mutuail aid? meaning, don't skip units, call the closest units you need, then relocate units....

Is this a dig? If so, it's not particularly constructive... In fact, there is nothing funny about it, but it raises a real concern.
This is not to call into question the dedication of a particular organization's firemen, nor their professionalism and drive. Really, it doesn't need to be discussed in relation to ANY particular fire department. What an MCI such as this might highlight is a need for an MCI response plan that includes multiple agencies......or some kind of consolidation to form a larger agency with the means and necessity for more equipment.
I did not respond to this box yesterday, but I was at work and listening. There were an incredible amount of units on the scene to mitigate this disaster. Rescues 3 and 4 operated including, at least Collapse Rescue 3. That's 12 firemen, on top of an entire first alarm assignment. 39 pairs of hands. Add to that a few chief's and their aides, plus ESU and a FAST truck (Which sounds like a good idea to me when you have members working in a large, unstable and overturned bus). Top that off with 10+ EMS units, FDNY RAC 4 with temp. morgue set-up and Haz-Mat 1 to manage the fuel containment. That was all within the first few minutes. Many more followed. I'm sure you can up the tally with a great deal of DOT and Police units.
All of these resources and they had their hands full. These are people used to working together with a great deal of equipment at their disposal. More equipment than most Westchester Dept's. (outside of the bigger cities, Yonkers, NR, ect) have. So, what do you do? Who calls for what units and equipment? This seems like a perfect example of a need to utilize some kind of automatic response matrix with multiple F.D., P.D. and EMS agencies with a predetermined I.C. to maintain organization.
Clearly, and thankfully, this is an oddball event and no one knows exactly what to expect or how to perfectly handle each incident. However, it would be a good idea to consider what MIGHT be needed so that the proper personnel and apparatus are alerted quickly.

I have been retired some 20 odd years and I can still walk into the HOUSE and get respect from the newbies(even tho they have years on the job) the brother hood is alive but some how it gets lost in the constant battle with life, when we are fighting not only fires but the public perception of OT and benefits that all the brothers in the past fought for and we enjoy today. To all the exam takers remember you are trying to join a very proud and brotherly profession.

First floor storefront was a boat canvas, seats, and navytop store, very heavy fire load. Thats where the fire started lots of foam padding lots and lots. On arrival fire blowing out rear door where shop was locatied 50 feet into rear parking lot. The firefighter on the fire escape was part of a 2 man team, he was the first one out with the next one right on his heels. On arrival Engine 58 had 2 P.D. and one resident on that same fire escape. Fire never got into cockloft and roof never burnt off.
