Hmmmmmm..wonder who that is??? Actually from now untill 2015 there are an expected mass amount of retirements as there was a massive hiring spree in between 1986 and 1990. Anyone needing information about the job itself feel free to send me a private message or e-mail me at amanc2196@aol.com. Good luck those who take the exam.

As a driver of an emergency vehicle you have an obligation to get your crew to the incident and back in a safe manner. You have an obligation to the public as well. Many lives are in your hands and you are not doing anyone any good if you now become the incident. When I taught EVOC I used to hammer into the class that you have to drive defensively.

I saw on the news earlier ( if I knew how to post links I would of) where an off duty New jersey cop was beaten by a mob of people because he was wearing a Ranger uniform. There is actually a video that shows it. What baffles me is in watching the video no one came to the aid of the cop being beaten. And wether it was a cop or anyone else how can people just stand there and watch such a brutal beating of a human being. People are out of control. This guy did two tours overseas in the Marines, works as a cop yet gets hurt at a hockey game. I can only hope that the lowlifes that did this not only gets caught but gets some well deserved "bullpen therapy" ( as we used to call it on my former job)...
Prayers for a speedy recovery for the injured officer.

I could see liability in using fire police for making arrests. They dont carry weapons nor are they trained to my knowledge to the extent of regular police officers in making arrests or use of force if force should be needed.

Not sure if I like the idea of outfitting a personal vehicle with red lights. Call me a killjoy...

As a former member of the DP Hays Hose Company ( PFD) these pictures bring back memories from the 80's of when I used to drive Santa from the firehouse in the old village to headquarters...the best was seeing the looks on the kids faces when we pulled up.

The officer made a decision to put the victims life first...his second. You can tear apart his decision all you want but at the end of the day it was his decision and a heroic on at that. His actions resulted in a positive outcome. I believe anyone of us would have done the same thing and I am sure his actions will leave a lasting impression on the victim.

  24. firemoose827 liked a post in a topic by ex-commish in How Do You Select Which Officer to Vote For?
Moose, good topic. The election process has always been a pet peeve of mine and should be banned. Period!! Unfotunately the laws are written that allow fire companies to establish the qualifications. How I vote is simple. You have to ask yourself do you trust this person with your life or those of your kids? If you have any doubt....than you have answered your question. There are volunteer departments in other parts of the country like Minnesota and Florida that do not elect thier officers. They are appointed positions with qualifications.

Look harder :) ...all kidding a side, in reading some of the posts about the election process like anything else if you see something wrong get involved and become part of the solution. I did and am glad I did. Remember nothing happens overnight.
