2 Men Accused of Interfering With NYPD Police Choppers
    With Laser Pointer
Wednesday, Oct 1, 2014 • Updated at 5:14 AM EDT
Police say they’ve arrested two men on felony charges after they allegedly interfered with NYPD helicopters in separate incidents last month, with one allegedly deliberately shining a laser pointer at a pilot and another allegedly flying a drone too closely to a department chopper.

Police say that 26-year-old Daniel Parris was cuffed on suspicion that he shined a laser pointer at a chopper that was hovering over Jamaica Hills, Queens, during a search for an assault suspect on Sept. 24.
The chopper pilot said that he was hovering about 750 feet over the neighborhood when he saw a green flash that illuminated the entire cockpit, according to the NYPD. The flash forced him to take off the night-vision goggles he was using to conduct the search.

Just my TWO cents on this..... 35 years as a resident in the City of Peekskill.
Fire runs are down. EMS runs are up. The system is not perfect. Is any FD or EMS agency?
Before we bash an agency such as a Career, Vollie or Combo FD why don't we give a little credit?
Peekskill FD Career Firefighters are some of the best Paramedics/EMT's
in Westchester County. They have received numerous lifesaving awards,
It was not uncommon several years ago to wait for an Ambulance 10, 15, 20+ minutes.
No ALS. No BLS Engine/Rescue. Maybe a PPD Officer would respond with an EMS bag. PPD had a few EMT's.
Can "the system" be better? Perhaps. Is it a ticking time bomb? No
The Chiefs, Officers & Members of the PFD (Career and Volunteer) do the best they can
    with the resources they have.

    NEW YORK STATE POLICE
    201st Graduating Session
Ten residents from the Lower Hudson Valley were among the 168 troopers who graduated Thursday from the
201st class of the New York State Police Academy.
The ceremony was held at the Empire State Plaza in Albany.
The local residents will serve New York as troopers from several locations, police said.
Working out of Troop C in Sidney will be Jean B. Cime of Hartsdale, Peter J. Figiel of Peekskill, Katherine M. Gorey of Somers, Lance Saraceno of Bardonia, Kelechi A. Uba of New Rochelle and Jason E. Ritacco of Waccabuc.
Among the new troopers at Troop E in Canadaiqua will be Charles A. Williams of Yonkers. Trooper Martin R. Smith of Haverstraw is among 26 graduates joining Troop F in Middletown while the Poughkeepsie-based Troop K will get eight new troopers including Joseph L. Morrissey of Patterson and Jonathan Sanchez of White Plains.
The class also included Jason Zhang of Poughkeepsie, who had waited five years at a chance to be state trooper. He fell one sit-up short in January 2013, but got a second chance last January – and passed. He will be assigned to Troop C in Sidney.

Sombody ought to give the general public a lesson on how some volunteer EMS agencies work....I agree with a more cost effective option which some refer to as "cheap" but the citizens of Chester would be terrified if they knew how long it takes for a response time or how many calls were not answered by this agency....I've heard that most if not all of the members that apparently "really cared" about their ambulance corps have disapperared, nobody is around and this guy Boardman is basically doing all of this on his own. I've also heard of many good people leaving this place over the years because of how the "people who really cared" were running this place...or not running it ;-) If I lived in Chester knowing what I know, I'd be thrilled that finally this has happened. When an ambulance is needed...one will respond with qualified personel that enjoy their jobs for more reasons then just flying through the town with lights and sirens blaring in some cases with regular unmarked personal vehicles.

  21. RWC130 liked a post in a topic by Officer Ed in Stamford hurricane drill left out volunteer firefighters
I was not aware of the animosity between some regular FFs and volunteer FFs until I began to read these forums. Perhaps things are different "back east", but out here in the wild west, volunteer firefighters are required to have the exact same training and certifications that the full-timers do.
We don't have volunteer firefighters in the metropolitan areas, but only in rural parts of the state. Without them, those areas would be completely without fire protection and first-responder medical care. I consider volunteers who give up so much of their time - and even put their lives on the line for the public - to be true heroes.
We also have reserve police officers who attend the same police academies and get the same continuing training as regular officers. They do the same job...they just don't get paid and they don't do it full time.
Now, having said the above, what I see as the only real difference between the volunteers and the full-timers like me (at least here in the west), is that we full-timers do this 10 hours a day, every day....and the volunteers do it maybe a couple of times a month. When you're doing a job every day, you're BOUND to be better at it than someone who only does it occasionally. But I think we should support the idea of the volunteers getting as much training as possible because when the fecal matter hits the air-movement device, we're both in the business of serving and protecting the public.
