Well guys after 43 years as a Port Chester Firefighter [ 18 years very active volunteer working at DPW then getting the dream job getting paid to do what I love to do this is my last day. It didn't end the way I wanted it too but away I go . I was fortunate to catch the war years when we went out every day for a job worked side by side with many dept.'s and made a lot of life long friends on mutual aid. I saw a lot of death and sorrow [ Gulliver's 24 DOA Stouffer's 26 DOA 9/11 world trade center ] and saved a few along the way but my greatest call was closing a large window [ life savers building ] for a 84 year old lady who was freezing because her window was open and she needed help. The next day she baked a apple pie for me and my partner. So I say good bye to it all and hope that I left a small mark somewhere. To my 2 sons that are following or trying to follow in my foot step's keep up the good work in this most rewarding profession . Good luck to the guy's that are left on my job and hope that thing's get better for you and the people we were sworn to protect.

    X635, Please look this way

You never saw it, it does not exist. " The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus."

Friday afternoon 2 flew directly over my house at about 500 feet. I was in the backyard and you could feel the vibration and the down wash. Amazing. They made the cobras look like flies.
They weigh as much as the new engine 23 and can lift up the old one.

Found this gem. Its the largest model train layout in the World. Its located in Hamburg Germany. There are some very impressive fire operations as part of this. Even FDNY has a strange roll in it.

Since this is my first day of retirement after 20 years @ 60 let me tell you our protocols. EMS dispatch: no answer dispatch again 3 min later. No answer after 2 more min. dispatch again and dispatch mutual aid. Fire: after initial dispatch if no answer after 5 min. dispatch again. If no answer (and it has happened) dispatch again and dispatch mutual aid. Mutual aid run cards have been set up by both ems and fire agencies for their districts. Barry I understand what your saying if dept. x crashes, but what if I don't send anybody to the call in a TIMELY manor! The cad prompts us on all re-dispatchs. The buck does not stop @ 60 Control. It is up to each department whether volunteer or career to cover your calls. The cad will prompt us for the city of New Rochelle or Bedford EMS in the same manor. We run with NYS DOH protocols for ems and NFPA for fire. If you can't cover your call's start thinking about joining forces with your neighbor who is covering the call! Thanx for all you do and please stay safe!

The simple fact is you can kill multiple people with a knife if that is your intent.
If this lunatic in CT had driven his car onto the playground at recess and run over multiple people would you be calling for a ban on cars next?
We simply don't know how many times guns save the lives of innocent people but I'm reminded of one story about a year ago where a single mom defended herself and her baby by shooting and killing an intruder who broke into her home. There's probably a thread on that story too since the 911 tapes were broadcast on the news and the story got a lot of attention at the time.
Banning LEGAL guns won't stop gun related violence.

As I complete my second full year as Chief of the West Harrison FD. This program is probably my proudest achievement. To see these men work and the interest they take in my Department and the fire service is second to none. This is the future of this Department, and the future for this community. I wholeheartedly commend my Program Coordinators/ Advisors, for the time and effort you put into this program and Thank my Junior Members for being there... Nice Job, boys!!

Just saw a video of the West Harrison Fire Department J.F.F. Video that I found on you-tube. West Harrison Fire Department program looks well run and well organized. These young J.F.F should be proud as well as the Department. I have a few questions how is the program run, how many advises does the program has to keep it well organized, how was the advises pick to start a new J.F.F. program in department. Keep up the Great Work guys

Things turned hairy real fast and people got caught off guard AGAIN, when will people learn?? People still refused to evacuate even during MANDATORY evacuation requests, and now first responders are putting their lives on the line for these idiots...WHY? What good are you going to do by staying in your precious home? You cant stop flooding, you can clean up and re-build though, and yet people still refuse to leave when prompted...
Lessons should have been learned in Irene, but obviously they weren't. Im sitting here in the EOC tonight in disbelief that so many lives have been lost and more are being threatened when it could have been prevented by evacuating...you CANT fix STUPID...

The track is going to change every 6 hours with every update from the forecasters and models. Then every meterologist will add their interpretation to impress their viewers so this thread will be as long as the Stamford merger thread if we post every update.
I figure we will either get rain or we won't. :-)

that statement that rescue83 gave is partially true. being a member of a dept very near by department i never saw a problem with any of their rigs or space issues. i have worked with them off of almost all the engines over the years and never once heard or saw a complaint on their rigs. who couldnt use any bigger apparatus but to say that they had storage/limited stuff is not true. what they had served them well and im sure bigger and better will improve them even more. everyone can improve and thats just what their doing
