  1. That's just plain mean............ You Tease !!! Nice Picture. Looks like a good job. EFFD has been running their boots off lately
  2. Great Pictures Photounit................. It was only a matter of time till the master reared his head
  3. We mark the LZ with Weighted Traffic Cones laid down on their side (usually about 5 of them) which seems to work well. They usually drop it where we have the cones placed. And in the night we put a Lightbox inside each cone which makes it glow orange and easy for the pilot to see. On a related note, what are the different SOG's out there with regard to standing by with a hoseline at a landing? I tell my crew not to pull the line unless it is actually needed. If it gets pulled and the helo goes down a distance away, then you lose time gathering up the hose to drive to the actual scene. We had a chief a while back who had the line actually pulled and charged....... I talked him out of that maneuver pretty quickly. Thoughts ?
  4. Updated Story One killed, 2 hurt 3-car wreck in Patterson By Hoa Nguyen • hnguyen7@lohud.com • May 8, 2009 PATTERSON - One person was killed last night and another was critically injured in a three-car accident on a wet and foggy stretch of Route 22. The driver of a Honda CRV, whose identity was unavailable, was ejected and killed in the crash, which happened about 8:30 p.m. http://www.lohud.com/article/2009905080370 Additional LoHud Pictures: http://jukebox.lohud.com/photos/popup/inde...ly&offset=0 Road was reopened about 01:00 after NYSP Accident Reconstruction Team finished working the scene.
  5. I would go with 3, and this should have been done as soon as the IC got onscene seeing what you described. Waiting until his equipment got there and well into the initial attack and then realizing that he may need more water is usually the critical mistake and its too late........ Get em going early.
  6. "My First" was at a FD picnic one summer a long time ago. While we were at the town park, someone started yelling from the Tennis Court that someone went down. Me and my buddy ran over and gave the guy CPR till the medics got there. The guy did vomit all over (I believe he had recently been drinking Red Gatoraid or something, nice picture huh?) Lucky for me I was doing the Pushy Pushy thing and didnt get hit. The guy actually did survive too...... We got some award for it later that year. Totally correct where the training kicks in and it is not till afterwards that you decompress and get a little shaky, while at the same time having a great feeling of accomplishment that you were trained and hopefully able to make a difference and help save a life. That experience is what made me take my EMT and get involved in the EMS side of the house.
  7. It was a Joke Dude........ Take it easy...........
  8. Nice job, but it always seems like there is someone who refuses to use their waist straps............. I just don't get it........

  10. Just got back.. Was on a Tanker from Patterson (22-4-2). They are still there doing overhaul and investigation at this point. I tell ya, this place was a monster !! I mean REALLY BIG. It had a big gate up front that it appears (I did not see it but it looks like the case) that it may have been mechanically opened (with a bumper) of the first due. When we got there there was some fire showing through the roof on the # 2 side and they were agressively attacking it. We dumped our tank and when we returned the fire had taken ahold of most of the entire roof and went into exterior operations. I shuttled 11 loads of water (x 3000) = 33,000 from just my rig. We counted over 10 tankers at one point. so we are talking like 300,000 gallons of water, plus I heard they were trying to access the pool in the back yard with another 40,000 and possibly another source. Can not give you much on the actual firefighting though as I was busy driving around. Good job by everyone that was there and looking forward to seeing some pic's............ Its past my bedtime later
  11. We went with SVI on a Spartan Gladiator MFP Chassis. 6 man cab, Walk Around. It will have he Amkus Ultimate Hydraulic Rescue Tool System with 4 preconnected tools (2 on each side), plus 2 small portable hydraulic generators. A small Hale 250 GPM pump with 300 gallons of water and a line in the front bumper. A 25 KW Hydraulic Driven Generator with 6000 w. 35 Light Tower. And lots and lots of other goodies. ETA 12/09 The old Mack / Saulsbury currently in use will be looking for a new home at the end of this year if interested.
  12. Trust me, I am with you on that one. Unfortunately, I believe that they have a plan "sometime in the future" to reopen that section which runs East / West to the Hudson near Beacon and make some sort of connection between 2 lines. Not really positive, but thats what I have heard.
  13. Man, I've heard of a short bed pickup before, but that's ridiculous. LOL..
  14. A little Bondo and some Paint and they will be back on the lot in no time............. That stretch of tracks is not in use at this time, so no commuter traffic was affected. I am sure they will get some engineers out there to look it over though. Side Note. We have a New Rescue being built and this was one of our concerns, getting it to be able to fit under.... Hope we got it right ! Nice Pictures Kurt......
  15. Remember, if you go with Ground Ladders, be careful with the Roof Ladder. The Hooks on the tip may not dig in as well as if working on a typical Asphalt / Wood roof. I think I remember an article (Maybe FE or FHA) where this happened during a drill and the hooks did not bite into the metal and someone went for a ride.......... Be Careful
  16. Reading the unfortunate news from The Secret List about the Double LODD in Virginia in a Trailer Fire, got me thinking. I have heard of a few instances of guys getting hurt or killed in Trailer Fires and was wondering if there is sometning more to it. I personally have never been in one, but do have a few around here and the possibility is there that one day we may get one. Any perspectives on how to attack?, what to look out for ? Why guys are getting hurt ? It seems pretty easy to me, but I guess there is more to it.
  17. Nuff Said........ Thats Awesome............
  18. Actually, believe it or not we do have a private development with a pressurized hydrant system on it. Plus we may end up M/A in another district that does have a hydrant system. That being said, the picture of the Capped Steamer Connection is an old photo. If you look at the photo of them pumping, you can see the Intake Valve now on the Engine. All of our pumps now have Intake Relief Valves on the Steamer.
  19. And what is the purpose of the fly car anyway ? Go to the station and help staff the Bus. Are they that overstaffed with members that they need additional to the scene ? What exactly is its purpose and who uses it ?
  20. Too Dam Funny... Similar situation a ways back. Some guy got hooked up for DWI I Think. While in the back of the detective Car (No Cage) and the officer was outside, he was able to get to the microphone of the radio and push out a MAYDAY or something. from what I hear units from 3 surrounding departments were headed in before they figured out what had happened and he was "Politely Spoken To".........
  21. HA ! Very Funny !! Yes, That Horse Is Dead... Nice Photo Bill, Send More........
  22. Our Bullard TI has a Built In Transmitter and there was a Monitor / VCR in the Rescue, but it took a few minutes (and a spare body) to hook up the receiver antenna and get it running. Don't think it was ever used in anger, but did a few times in training. Not a bad tool if you can set it up so nobody has to dedicate themselves to get it running. We ended up removing the monitor to free up space for other equipment. As for the "Media Grabbing the Signal", I am sure this can be done. Similarly to everyone that has a scanner and pulls voice transmissions off the air. Same thing, only they are pulling video signals off the air.
  23. I have had the Bulb pop out of the socket on my Fire Vulcan a few times. "Adjusted" the contact pins on the bulb and it seems to be holding better. Other than that I think it is the best light I have used (Litebox - Heavy & Survivor - Battery took a dump). A Good Light Overall.........
