SOP's are just that "standard" (and I read their press release). When this stopped being standard, they were in a bad spot and couldn't/didn't react fast enough to the changing conditions. It's not a criticism, it's merely a statement.

I have no dog in the AR-15 fight, but I can tell you that congress wasn't designed to grind to halt either...but that doesn't stop "one man's rules" (McConnell or Boehner) from making it a "slippery slope" either.
You should ask the the DHS employees going without pay because congress couldn't agree on funding if they wish the president could authorize their funding...
At some point it becomes essential to legislate, something that cannot happen when you have one of the most unproductive congresses in the 200+ year history of the country.
If our founding fathers had truly tried to make this country "eliminate the possibility of "one man's rules" how do explain federalism, republicanism, recess appointments, martial rule, executive actions and pardons etc all enshrined in the constitution or delineated and protected by the supreme court?

A year or two ago a comment was made from Bravo management. Something like "I've cleaned house" this was in reference to the current moderators at that time. These mods were on top of their games both professionally and as Bravo moderators. Big mistake. Lost many a true member that day.

I myself stopped checking this site frequently a while ago. When I saw this topic I couldn't agree more. What drove this site in the early years was that buffs (and I say that in a positive way. all of us in emergency service are buffs. Just some little more then others.) was that all fires and big incident were listed. Those of us not near a scanner or too far north or too far south could read updates and get some photos. Now when you have FB and Twitter with up to date fire wires or emergency wire (nyc fire wire, kempter and Westchester fire wire constantly updating from emergency personnel in the field. Especially since smart phones make it easy to check and post on social media, this site died. Majority of people that were here wanted updates on incidents so social media changed that. Then the volly vs career in every topic killed things. Then asking for money and Seth having problems personally and publicly added to it. Many people seem to have a problem with the founder. Many people left and abandoned the site. The list of the usernames is misleading now. A few years ago I messaged and asked to delete my old username and stated why. I got no reply from Seth or any admin after several messages to them. So that sealed it for me and I noticed the decline was in full swing anyway. I created my current name. When I check and see something worth reading maybe I'll post. But more and more to me the site is dead.

The amount of money some guys have thrown away on exams over the years is brutal. That $100 fee isn't worth it in my book unless you have residency or a major hook somewhere. Good luck to those taking it!

My record is 3 in one transport. 2 AEMTs in the back of the ambulance with 2 teenaged minors females and one 19 year old female whom had been involved in a 3 car MVA. None were on c-spine precautions and all were seat belted during transport.

1033 program (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1033_program) has been doing this for almost a decade. Where do you think they got the MRAPs in Ferguson, MO from?
Previously, government agencies could get almost any military surplus (generators, rifles, MRAPs, Boats, Copiers etc etc etc) for free but had to pay to remove lethal components (if not a firearm or alike) and ship the surplus to its final destination.
Now any John Q. Public can buy one, at least a HUMVEE that is...

According to the article, the funeral is Friday, October 31, 2014. "A memorial ceremony is scheduled for Oct. 31 at Fort Benning in Georgia. Gallagher will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery, but a date has not yet been determined. He is survived by his wife, Denene, and sons Patrick and Sean." POTUS can't presently be held accountable for not attending when the event has not yet occurred.

Interesting how different Federal Courts are going in opposite directions, In NY they are forcing more regulations. Eventually the District courts are going to need direction from the Supreme court

From my prospective as a BLS provider in VT, other than pericardiocentisis, which I am not sure about, these are all NR-P level skills. I/O is an AEMT skill and Automatic Transport Ventilation is as low as an EMT level skill.
Anything less than a 50 minutes by ground transport will not even get considered for a helicopter considering the helicopter is coming from Albany (LifeNet), Dartmouth (DHART) or Saranac Lake (NCLF). If the VTANG has a helicopter and crew ready, you might be able to get them, maybe...
Other than the renewed focus on TKs and blood products, the recent military operations have reenforced the fact that getting the pt to definitive care and stabilized is what saves the pt, not fancy toys in the field.
We were taught that other than airways/IO which should be done on scene, if you are waiting, your pt is dying.

I agree with PDs needing the proper weapons for the many given situations they might find themselves in. The problem I have is with any law enforcement agency that uses US Armed Forces combat uniforms for use against civilians. They are not members of the Armed Forces period. They might work great but the fact is police officers are here to protect and serve the public, what people expect to see are professional wearing PD blue or what ever color local LE wears. Not Army or Marine combat uniforms worn in the field. I'll even agree they can wear the ACH (Advanced Combat Helmet) for superior head protection but it should be painted blue.

Yes but do they have the trained personnel available to operate all of that equipment that was purchased with our grant (read tax) money?
If it sits there with no one to operate it, its useless
If it responds, but with only a small % of the personnel needed to perform the mission, its useless
and if it responds to incidents without being called, and ignores policies, procedures and ICS in general, because "nobody can stop us", its more than useless it is a danger to themselves, other responders and the community.
