We have been told not to use brushes to wash the truck as it can harm the finish. What is the possibility that a master stream will damage the paint?

Total BS.  We have a busy, large enough sandbox of our own to worry about.
A battalion chief responds anytime more than one unit is toned out, In or Out of the city. Its basically the start of incident command and to protect the members.  So yes, any units out for a duration of time need to be replaced on recalls, including the chief.
When we receive a call for mutual aid, 9 times out of 10, we are requested to the scene.  Not just to cover the fire house.  Sometimes on arrival, the incident commander asks the chief for advice.

So before you start spreading rumors, get the facts straight

That makes zero sense. But it's motivated by politics, not common sense.

Riddle me this. Why is it that departments think that one engine and one truck is enough manpower for an extra alarm?

You're calling for more help. Why not call for ENOUGH help?

It has nothing to do with the quality or capabilities of the latest FD officials, it's the political oversight that is unwilling to allow the FD to manage itself

Read that update and it still smells fishy to me. Mount Vernon is always going to be in ruins unless they just change the whole system up. The politics need to change and they need to bring in people to that fire department who know what they are doing and are willing to take the time to rebuild and fight for the necessities. The politicians can't be using emergency services as a political toy to bait with. Lives are at stake and those shenanigans need to stop. I don't know how many chiefs are retiring out of FDNY but maybe somebody with that level of experience should be running the department. That's just my two cents. If they don't take themselves seriously and try to make things better for themselves, nothing will change and they'll still be looked down upon. And that's not right to the firefighters who take the job seriously and to the people of Mount Vernon who rely on their services.

Lets hope that the BFC and the union can work thing out so no one has to worry about being laid off. In the meantime, I am sure that someone will monitor the situation and report back shoud thing take a turn for the worse.  Until then, let's not speculate as things can get out of control.

Don't really think this is the right place to spread a rumor about 18 people losing their livelihoods. If you're someone who'd be directly affected by this I'd imagine you'd have a better source than this website. If this post was about my department I sure wouldn't want to hear about it here first.

I understand the original poster is just looking for info but this isn't the right place. If it's true it'll come out and we'll all hear about it soon enough, if it's false then we're just causing people to worry over nothing.

I usually do not respond to comments like this but I have to say it was uncalled for. I can assure you that this FASNY member does not want to see anyone lose jobs.

Are you some kind idiot? No one want to see someone lose their job.  If you are going to make stupid statements like that, please keep them to yourself.

Why don't they just go out with a bag of badges and hand them out and get rid of all these pesky requirements. Love the reasoning behind this

Based on a few previous post, it seems many New Yorkers are fully aware of the issue.

    Here's how I found out.

Last year there were a group of guys, all good friends coming up to visit in the NYC area. The group was made up of active and retired firefighters, EMTs/Medics, military and buffs. We were all getting together in NYC for a couple of days and maybe visit at a few prearranged firehouses and other places where these guys might be interested in visiting. I thought "why not make a visit to the 9/11 Museum too". So I asked a few of the local NYC guys how they felt about it. I was very surprised to hear that "NOT ONE" had visited this museum themselves. Many of these guys were directly involved on that tragic day. Their efforts continued on for months after. They all paid a terrible price from that attack.

When I heard that New Yorkers themselves had NOT visited this museum, including many first responders who worked months there trying to recover their lost friends, "how could I go there and bring a group of friends to view the history of this 9/11 Memorial". We would pay money to view what so many of our very good friends had lost. The answer was "NO...., we will NOT go". And in total agreement were every one of those who had planned to visit from as far away as Tennessee.

To be honest, if there were ANY museum in this country that our group, including myself, wanted to see, it would be this 9/11 Memorial. As an outsider, I was not directly involved. But like most people in America, and the entire world, we all watched "live" on our TVs as these tragic events played out in front of us. Many of us lost good friends and family members lost them right in front of our own eyes.

"I AM NOT ABOUT TO PAY TEN CENTS FOR ANYBODY TO MAKE BIG MONEY OFF THE LOSS OF SO MANY INNOCENT PEOPLE".

Again I say, "the choice is yours". But "maybe that's why so many New Yorkers haven't been there".
