"The plan couldn't even get the votes of the estimated 100 volunteers of the Yorktown Heights Engine Company No. 1, which serves the district."
That is the most telling part of the entire story.

I think there are far more unprofessional things on the radio. Like, third tones for a crew... An EMT is needed....
XXXX on scene, working fire, retone for all available personnel...

Why wouldn't a dispatcher send PD to these kind of calls, that makes you think you have to inform the dispatcher on how he or she should do his job? Perhaps, next time you advise that you have fire blowing from the 2nd floor window, should we ask "well are you putting water on it?"

Thanks to all who attended our 14th annual seminar, making it another tremendous success!!!
I think all will agree that Captain Bill Gustin did a terrific job in presenting his case for the need of "Intelligent Firefighting."

The idea behind the 3 digit department number may have been to avoid confusion with unit numbers. For example, if the chief of department 12 calls out "121 to 60 control" is this 12-1 or 121 an engine from montrose? I feel westchesters number system is less confusing than some that are out there.

Well as many have said on the Book of Face, outstanding job. With such dangerous manpower levels, it is NO joke effecting rescues before a hoseline could even think about being put into service. Bravo.
And the Snow Terrace run = Even better than the rescues IMHO.

Whether or not she has a license or has a beef against PD or any other reason... this woman was holding a sign! Too bad if PD doesn't like it. Its a sign. Sorry guys, get up and move. Its her right to hold that sign and she should be commended for the guts to hold that sign. Someone needs to remind the government that the people have real rights, like free speech which includes holding up simple signs, especially if its a sign that annoys the police. Its just how it works. The same First Amendment right that Neo-Nazis have, or the people who hold up those nasty signs at military funerals. "I may not agree with what you have to say, but I will defend to the death, your right to say it" -Voltaire... Especially what anyone has to say about government, the state, or the police. It's one of those rules of how democracy can survive

We have a set full year schedule of drills in The Falls. Spreading out our training and keeping to the basics because of the volunteer nature of the department. These drills are conducted by the lieutenants (of which I am one) with the assistance of upper officers and we have the latitude to spread open drills and add on to them as we see fit. Every once in a while we will do more advanced training. The biggest thing I do as a lieutenant, I think, is to not only hold drills on drill night, but when I have a large enough group of guys hanging out, is to have an impromptu drill on any night, whether its just going over the trucks and the tools, or actually going out and using them. Wasted time hanging around, is wasted time not training. Or as I like to say to my guys... "Its a firehouse, not a hang out"

Governor Christie's Facebook page has blown with tons of comments against him and many people have called his office. I have left my own sentiments on his fb page and plan to call his office tomorrow when I'm not working... If you want to call too his office number is 609-292-6000... Let him know this will not be tolerated

Reading what has happened has now made me want to go back to my dept and rethink our response for gas leaks. Currently we roll just our rescue truck and while we have every once in a while wondered why that is it and not add an engine, its never gotten that far. Hopefully after this situation we can reevaluate how we handle these situations. But I am just a lonely lieutenant but can try to persude the chiefs.
Also, we have many members who like to show up at scenes with no gear on and go into houses (old timers and newbies). And this came up at our last meeting and I strongly stressed for everyone to wear their gear, no matter what the call. Hopefully this incident will spread to every dept and member THAT GEAR SAVES LIVES!... We have this gear and these Scott paks... wear them and use them.

I actually just completed setting up and executing this drill a week and a half ago for my department (Mahopac Falls). It involved a large school bus and a car with 14 patients and I had 3 other FD's and a total of 6 ambulances. If you want any help or have any questions, pm me and we can exchange numbers. I learned alot in hind sight as well and would like to pass it on. So yep, let me know.
