Exactly, in a historical context it can be appropriately displayed.
But to fly it as some kind of middle finger to the north ignores a key rule of warfare that has existed for thousands of years: Winner picks the decor...

I'm no fan of this liberal gov't or the agenda that it's pushing. I also don't think the confederate flag has anything to do with that tragic mass-murder a couple of weeks ago. However, lets not get crazy....no one is saying you can't fly or display a confederate flag. Each person is free to do so under the constitution. What is at issue is whether a gov't institution should be flying that flag. My personal opinion is no.
I'll soap box a little further....the confederate flag is a flag of treason. Today, we'd probably have branded them terrorists. Lastly, The flag that is currently flying over the Carolina State House was only raised in the 1960's as a symbol of defiance in the face voting rights and school integration. So, it's not some historic battle flag that'd been flying there for a century, it's simply a symbol of division.

Posted these on another site and they're just as appropriate here.....

You don't need to collect a paycheck to act professionally....NEVER, EVER settle for being anything other than the best you can be!!
Career, volunteer or anything in between, if you're in the fire service it doesn't get any clearer that this....

Look at this fascist cop in his militarized uniform, clearly violating this little girl's rights from the top of his armored tank. I don't see any reasonable explanation why law enforcement needs access to these battlefield vehicles...
Wait, what's that? He's rescuing this girl from her apartment because a murder suspect has barricaded himself in another unit within the building? Oh. Nevermind then.
Incident is still ongoing, LAPD SWAT still evacuating apartment units.

  12. SageVigiles liked a post in a topic by 50-65 in NY SAFE Act of 2013 (Gun Law)
In the Poughkeepsie Journal today, an article confirms what has been long suspected. Compliance with the "SAFE" Act as far as registering newly (albeit incorrectly) defined "assault weapons" is at about 4%.
After FOIL requests asking for information about the registration were denied, S.C.O.P.E. sued for the information. Although no one can say for sure how many "assault weapons" are in NY, it is widely assumed to be 1,000,000 or more. About 44,000 have been registered on a little over 25,000 applications.
Maybe, just maybe, everyone is in compliance. Those that kept theirs registered them and everyone else sold them out of state as required. As we have seen since the "SAFE" act was passed (in the middle of the night, without debate, in violation of the state constitution), there has been a tremendous decrease in the crimes committed with these "dangerous" weapons.
Don't you feel much safer now?

Very nice looking rig...the key here being nice looking. That thing would be a b!tch from a practical standpoint for working a fire....my God you'll get a nosebleed or a broken ankle trying to stretch a line. And while it might be serviceable (barely) in an industrial setting the sad fact is alot of municipalities are trying to outfit their FDs using the same ''one rig does it all" concept and it simply doesn't work. Bigger isn't better and whatever is saved in dollars is lost in practicality where it matters...on the fireground.

Tarrytown Utility 61 is technically a Volvo fire truck. However, it did get its start as a cop truck, and it doesn't have a pump.
    Cool find though.

Exactly, shirts generally go to that house's fund for improvements, supplies or company events. I'd rather stop by, BS with the guys and support them directly than pay some phony who sells fake stuff.

My area in GA (Savannah) was short listed for the new Volvo car plant to be built but they opted for SC outside Charleston. I wonder if they will duplicate this truck if they have a similar
brigade at the new auto plant.
We often overlook the industrial fire departments and their capabilities. Sikorsky in Stratford has quite a dept including some boats as their take-off/landing areas are adjacent to the Housatonic River.

Looks cool, but I'll bet it wouldn't clear a lot of railroad bridges in my area. Do step stools/ little Giants come standard?
The ladders and soft suction look like they could be a real joy to takedown/ replace. Would probably need the technical rescue equipment to do this.
Just kidding but to the Volvo team good luck with the vehicle.

The above is all correct! T-shirts sold by the companies do help us off-set some in house expenses and we definitely appreciate it.
Also, if you're not in a position to visit a house, the FDNY Fire Zone in Rockafeller Center sells a lot of authorized stuff. That money does go to support the FDNY Foundation which is a non-profit that supports scholarships and other worthy causes.

I believe there are more involved than just her. This was a well thought out plan that had to involve people who had access to the tools. Civilian movement is limited ( at least where I used to work) so it is unlikey she had access to a shop or room where the tools are stored without help. They have to establish a chain of events as to what hands were the tools passed through untill they got into the hands of the inmates. Somehow they knew the layout of the pipe chases behind the cells, the direction of the pipes, and where the manhole cover was. It could take time before they truly know how this was done and who helped.
