Every agency will have this system set up different. But the basic version is:

A - BLS unit non emergency

    B- BLS unit emergency

C- BLS unit emergency and ALS unit non emergency

D - BLS and ALS emergency

E- BLS and ALS emergency + closest unit (like Hazmat, fire marshals etc)

E is basically for what they call ineffective breathing and only a few calls are E (CPR, Hanging, Drowning/Submerged Vehicle occupied)

Now the agencies can change things. For example in Orange County it basically is

    A - BLS non emergency

    B - BLS emergency

C/D/E - BLS and ALS emergency

Maybe even one day they'll only send ALS fly cars to Charlie/Delta/Echo calls and stop abusing them running to every medical call.

I guess you didn't read any of the above comments.  There is no provision stating that you must stay in the City after being hired.  Many people move out of the city after getting on, especially because of NYC income tax.  Too damn expensive to live there.

That was my politician answer......but no sorry I over read your comments........and yes unless you wanna live in moms basement you'll never be able to live there, raise a family and so on.

I appreciate your input, and you're right, I can make it work for a period of time. But my wife and I just bought a house and my second son is on the way. Saying the starting pay shouldn't be considered would just be irresponsible. I've heard that it may be possible to keep my current employment and be a fire fighter, which would solve the problem. If that is not possible then I need to know what long term pay is like. I can't keep my home on 38k.

I will call Monday and try to get a answer on the pay scale. again, I appreciate you're comments. But telling me "you can make it work" without tell me for how long i'll have to "make it work" is not helpful.

If you really want it, you'll make it work, here's the contract google provided if you still have questions.

  4. Unfortunately as a firefighter/paramedic in CT, NHFD has quite a low starting pay, which I've been told by interested prospects is the biggest turn off, many medics whether commercial private or whatever would take a paycut and some can't do that with their life styles, familys bills yada yada yada...................Now after probation is up ect the pay is very good.

Looking at their website - they have a station (Protection Engine Co. #1) with low overhead door clearance.  My guess that the truck is speced to clear the door for that station.

Correct, there is only i think 100 or 101" of clearance in the door. Also i think HFD is the only dept left where all its members gear is on the apparatus.

Any Career Firefighter from other Departments volunteering in Port Chester must resign forthwith, The volunteer members must ban together and think of a sane way to reverse this situation, as they hold the upper hand in this battle, Remember Port Chester is a densely populated compressed community with a high fire risk not some pristine Norman Rockwell community,

How is this even acceptable? outisde of this recent issue....idc if you are career and vollunteer at home, but to vollunteer in a combo dept? do those "double dippers" run mutal aid into other career depts with PCFD?

Before this gets out of hand, im career and vollunteer in my boonedock town in no whereville CT, but i dont run mutal aid fires into the neighbooring iaff city, nor does anyone else whos career and vollys with me.

  7. Some additional information pertaining to this up coming Bridgeport (Ct) Firefighters Exam that you may want to consider.

    1) City of Bridgeport residents will receive 15.00 additional points added to their final score.

    2) As I understand it, paid insurance is no longer offered as retiree benefits.

    3) The Firebird Society, which is offering the $150.00 scholarship, is an organization designed to assist one particular group of minorities.

  8. When you hook the buddy breather connections together, the two cylinders don't equalize. You breathe off one cylinder, then the other when the first runs out or reaches whatever the "switch" point is for your manufacturer. It's important to know which cylinder you breath off first. Not sure about all manufacturers, but some use up the cylinder with the lower pressure first which can be a big problem if you should have to disconnect at some point.

Using the RIT connection will equalize between the two cylinders that are tethered.

My apologies i worded it wrong, but yes i think the feature is a need.

  9. The buddy breathing hook up is more for when you and a partner are doing a search or some sort of task and one runs low on air, ie-consumes a bottle faster due to being worked up or out of shape or whatever the case is, maybe his mask was knocked off and lost a considerable amount of air, if hes at 1/4 bottle and vibrating and your at half or three quarters you two can hook up and even out the two bottles and buy some time to get out of the building, its a separate connection then the RIT quick connect fill which is located on near the valve.
