I am not saying they should rely solely on Millwood for fire protection. I am stating the fact that resources are not being properly used. There isn't a single reason to build an additional substation when there is a firehouse up the block. God forbid someone misses pulling into a job first due and has to give it up to another rig from another department.

I have to ask, why this discussion about a term? is it for dispatch, or what? a pin job is a pin job, some are harder, some take more time, some pop a door go home. I cant see having this discussion except after about 10 beers lol

I told you guys that show stinks the good news is Harrisburg PA is in May 15-17???? That's a show you don't wanna miss. In June the show in Springfield Mass is pretty good. Mardi Gras after is the real reason to go bring lots of singles and wear track pants.

Page 4 of the application states "Five points on Written Exam for Active Military Service". Call it a hunch, but something tells me there may be a written exam.

I would assume not everyone is testing at the same time. Parking won't be an issue, but if it is Turn of River station two is across the street, they are only there during St Leo's Fair so the lot will be empty.

Letters were mailed out, the test is still scheduled as planned. Your entrance letter will tell you your arrival time.
If you plan on coming into the Department focused on rumors, promoting them, or a general bad attitude towards the City, hopefully your entrance letter arrives sometime in the next few weeks.
    Best wishes to everyone else.

Ive done 4 guys at once, all had lacerations on their hands from trying to grab a knife from a drunk guy at a party, they were all ambulatory and they all got their hands cleaned and wrapped and 3 sat in seat belts and 1 on the stretcher, was it a good idea? I thought so at the time. We can play the what if game all day, my commercial service company was out of units and we weren't waiting 20 mins for another truck so we did the 3 min transport to the ER.

We cover 42 sq miles 35,000 people, id say 70% of calls are within the same "downtown" 12 sq miles, We cover Route 8 as well, We have 2 stations, HQ and north end, 13 a shift, 4 on eng and 4 on ladder at HQ and 4 on eng at north end, contract says we can go down to minimal of 11, subsequently they'll take that 1st spot off the ladder then the HQ eng, 1 in the SUV as shift commander, work a 3 on 3 off schedule, go to minimal medicals (unconscious, seizures, codes) or any other things dispatch EMDs as serious, If there's a fire in the city you go to work, theres no waititng aroundo to grow in alarms, 2nd alarm gets 17 guys called back, ( must live within 20 mins of HQ within in 1 year of employment), we are the only carrer dept in the area, next closest is Waterbury and Bristol and they're not up until something like 4-5 alarms, we rely on volunteer dept from surrounding areas as mutual aid and city coverage.
Couple pics from a link from last weeks fire.

Would you have a 2nd party inspect your turnout coat if it went through the same thing and showed signs of thermal degradation?
I would at least have my facepiece looked at if not the lens replaced on the spot. The only thing I have agreed with NFPA 1981 (scba standard) in a long time is THE FACEPIECE IS THE WEAK LINK. Most guys don't realize that (pre nfpa 2013) facepieces only needed to perform a minimum of 200 degrees. The nfpa 2013 facepieces are tested to 500 degree minimum.
I bet no one is complaining about their salty looking helmets though!

If you do the cost analysis on apparatus, a few well planned fleet management plans show that in the long run the best financials is selling before its 10th birthday. You get the most resale and least maintenance costs. Plus more reliable and safer fleet. Too many places think you save money by trying to stretch the rig till its ready for the scrape yard.
They can call it what ever you want, but that's not enough water to be a tanker.
