  1. Ok here is the thing -we have enough CRUDE OIL, we don't have enough GASOLINE. Why? Becuase we do not have enough refineries. There has not been a refinery built since the 1970s, 1976 I think. Now that we have to cave to the enviornmental lobby and not build new plants and then put all kinds of crap in the gas that makes it harder and more expensive to refine. Yes, Bush has too many ties to oil. This is probably a time for the governement to get in and try to do something. (No, releasing crude from the stockpile won't do anything.)
  2. Wow. That was perfect. Could not have said it better myself. Ted "what accident, sir" Kennedy and Screamin' Howie Dean also come to mind...
  3. NYC is not all ALS. There are BLS units out there.
  4. Props go to Hoss for keeping us updated with the latest!!!! Gauranteed? Are you sure about this? FDNY data from Feb '06 tells of about 08:30 for all calls, with Segment 1, the most serious life-threatening calls, about 05:30.
  5. Which VACs other then Chappaqua cover New Castle?
  6. FDNY Bronx and SI are on the same frequency.
  7. Eastchester FD & EVAC, New Rochelle PD, Mount Vernon PD, all FDNY, FDMV, 33.96, NY State Police, Suffolk County PD (when it comes in)
  8. Aaron Small's career ERA is not the 3.21 he had last year...its like 4.85. The Big Unit is old with bad knees. A-Rod will choke, again.
  9. I think they have talked about this for years
  10. Somewhat unrelated, but FYI: FDNY will also use towers for observation at structural collapses.
  11. Chicago runs smoke-ejector/exahuster/ventilation units and FDNY has some of the POD units stationed around the City for collapse and/or hazmat equipment.
  12. if it got up there, it can get down
  13. or there is a substitute teacher today...
  14. YES on Kokomos as well....its a tight race between them and Candlelight for the best I've ever had. Hooters wings are overrated, however who goes there for the food...
  15. People will still smoke in bed, still overload electrical outlets, still leave candles unattended and kids will still play with matches. That won't change. And don't be totally suprised if the number of fires goes up.
  16. cant beat the Candlelite Inn although if you ever find yourself in Hampton Bays (Southampton Town) Long Island, hit Gator's. Great stuff.
  17. excellent! more Snow!!!!
  18. thanks all for the Putnam/Orange/Dutchess replies! What about Rockland? I remember once seeing a Suburban? marked for "Rockland Paramedics" (I think)???
  19. I know (or I think I know) Putnam has 4? Medics that cover the entire county. But what about Dutchess and Orange?
  20. Thanks JBE. So basically then the computer system keeps track of all the calls and what priority they are for dispatching? Becuase I have heard Central saying "holding x calls in the xx"
  21. Hello all, I was wondering about NYPD communications. Whenever I hear them, they are always calling "central." Is central a CENTRALIZED control center or is ir boro by boro? Anyone know anything else about them? Thanks and enjoy the snow...
  22. NYPD Pct. cars have usually had smaller engines. HWY gets the bigger ones. Back in the day when NYPD had the Chevy Caprices (greatest police car ever made), the 305s were PCT cars and HWY got the 350s. Same goes for the old M-bodies back in the 1980s - PCT cars had the 2-bbl, while HWY got the 4-bbl. PS - cant wait to see pictures!!!
  23. snow!!!! 6 inches!!!! YES YES YES!!!!!
  24. anyone know how busy the brigade is?
