Foxwoods CT. Fire Apparatus

12 posts in this topic

Just returned from a few days of R&R up at the Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods.

Stopped by the Mashantucket Pequot Fire Department who respond to Foxwoods

Casino and Resort. They were very gracious to position the apparatus for me.

Awesome photos! Now you just have to get some shots of Mohegan Tribal Fire Department's apparatus that cover Mohegan Sun Casino and you'll be all set!

OH SURE JOE!!!! SHOW UP WHEN I'M NOT THERE!!!!!!!!

What day did you stop by? I was off on a swap on Friday night and would have been there. But I decided to go up to Cooperstown for the weekend.

I can tell it was over the weekend because my group just put the tower back in service this past week after being out for some repairs.

Eddie, when do I ........ nevermind!!!! :P

I was at Mohegan Sun Friday took in the Frankie Valli concert, won a little at the casino.

Saturday morning we drove over to Foxwoods, gamble a little at the slots and won alot

I was at the firehouse around 10::30am as the Captain knew I was coming. Just an FYI I am working on a department profile for Fire Apparatus Journal Magazine.

How many calls do they average a year? DO they go mutual aid off the grounds?

I know Mohegan Sun goes to many of the surrounding towns as a FAST/RIT company. I also know that Foxwoods responds to the Tribal area of housing and on many calls to the nearby Town of Ledyard. Ain't that right Izzy ???

And Joe, you did very well at the Casino. Most people don't do that well. That's how they get to build those Great looking firehouses. It wasn't funded on winners.

Glad you had a good time out at both casinos and won some money!!! Group 1 was was working days so you met up with Capt. Mark. I'm going to his shift in a few weeks when we do our shift changes. I am blessed to work with a great crew of people in my department, we have fun and all work together like a well oiled machine (the advantages of a small department). I would have been coming off shift Saturday morning but I swapped my Friday night shift so I could have it off. If I knew you were coming and was around I would have stayed to meet you. Glad you got some great photos of our rigs!!! Let me know if you need any help with the FAJ profile, I will get you any information you need. (Reminds me I need to re-subscribe!!)

We also have a Facebook fan page, just search our name. Also did they show you the t-shirts we are going to be selling to help out the Local?

To answer some questions about MPFD, we are a tribal government department that provides fire, rescue and EMT first responder for the reservation. The only things we do not do is first respond inside of the Foxwoods and MGM casino and hotels (security has their own first responders but we respond to the parking garages and Two Trees Inn which is in Ledyard which is not on the Reservation) and ambulance transports (provided by American Ambulance). Our per-shift staffing is 5 persons broken down with 1 Captain, 3 firefighters and 1 firefighter specialist. We only run 4 on the floor (yah I know........) with one firefighters manning the Fire Alarm Control Center in the Foxwoods complex to monitior the panels. The Firefighter Specialist is in charge of maintaining and testing the fire suppression and notification systems.

We cover the reservation, Route 2 (Norwich-Westerly Road), Route 214 (Indiantown Road) and Shewville Road areas that boarder the reservation and tribal trust lands. We will respond into the Town of Ledyard District 1 (Ledyard Fire Co. area) upon request and according to our mutual aid agreements with the town, and vice versa. Fire alarm activations on the reservation are handled by us but a working fire will be dispatched accordingly to our run cards at "Station PQ", our dispatch center. We also are part of the New London County Mutual Aid plan and will respond with our tower ladder or an engine when requested. We were supposed to go to Norwich a few weeks ago when I was working for a old mill fire but the tower was oos, but the night before I was first due to a structure in Ledyard. We are also part of the CERRIT Team (Connecticut Eastern Regional Response Integrated Team) for hazmat. So if the "carrot is snapped" (NFD don't you just love that term??? LOL) we will respond with three members who are 472 certified and HazMat 17, unless F-27 and the Decon Wagon is needed.

We run about 1500 to 2000 calls a year with most of our calls are medicals, hazmat / spills, AFAs and MVAs. We are represented by the IAFF and we are Local 4746, chartered in May of last year. We also have two Tahoes (Chief's and Dep. Chief's truck), a Crown Vic (Asst. Chief / Life Safety Educator), two utility pickups and a small pickup.

And Spin, it would be in Wampum, not comps!!! jk
