NYSP's New Paint Color

17 posts in this topic

Got a shot of NYSP H208, a 2012 Chevrolet Caprice, and it was black. Are NYSP cars going to be black now? I'd really hate to see that, as I really like that unique dark metallic blue they have.

(Sorry for the crappy shot)

And here is a photo of one of their K9 Tahoe's for comparison:

To repaint them the color blue we traditionally use, it will cost an additional $800 per car.

Really? Ford, at least used to, with such a large customer like NYSP, will paint it whatever color they want (given the order of multiple vehicles are on the line at the same time). You'd think Chevrolet would do the same.

The NYS Contract for PD cars is "standard" available colors or "Black & White" or taxi cab yellow, all other colors are not factory available. That goes back at least 8 years.

Both look really nice! I think the black cruiser might be for a different division.

I believe he meant Troopers assigned to the Motor Carrier Unit.

Or Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit, or whatever they call themselves.

black isnt bad either. it goes well with the gray uniforms so its not totally out of whack. cost savings add up when you count how many cars they have. plus the current decals will work on black as well.

Only a handful of CVEU Units are black. They were mostly cargo vans that weren't offered in the metallic blue and it wasn't worth repainting them.

A majority of the CVEU are the traditional blue, including all the Tahoes and Excursions.
