I use to work for NYPD Paul Browne is full of crap, the service areas for NYPD didn't even like we dropped vehicles off for a PM, never mind routine inspections. I'm sure GM found the problem prior to the mechanics for the city.

Grumpy i love how you listed everything we should have in the RMP trunk. I am still searching the trunk for half of the items on the list. But honestly Grumpy hit the nail on the head in regards to the NYPD. All of the RMPs suck. my partner and I can barely ever fit our bags in the trunk. 4 bags + AED plus spare tire...good luck Impalas suck 2 years old and 3 of ours have no AC. Or doors don't lock- gangs love that. Crown Vic is/was my favorite. I hear the old Chevy Caprice was the best. plenty of room and was a tank!

JBE, in a nutshell you just described the NYPD to a T. From commisioner right down to some sergeants.

Yes it's very sad and for someone like me, a civilian, downright scary. A city of 60,000 people is pretty darn big to be shutting down it's police and fire departments and start contracting them out.
What do we contract out next? The US Air Force?

As mentioned, be honest. The written exam is the usual 1200 questions, many of which are asked repeatedly, or worded very closely to each other. You really cant lie on it. From there you will sit down with a psychiatrist who has reviewed your written exam, and ask you questions based on that. During my interview they asked numerous times how much I drank alcohol, which back then wasn't much (2 kids under 2 didn't leave much time to drink.) Do not get offended by their questioning. Remain calm, and if questioned on something, explain what happened. I know someone who cursed out the psychiatrist during the interview and failed on that alone.
With the T-shirt nonsense, and other BS that goes on with the JOB, it is what it is. Cops are never happy, and the job tends to overreact with certain things. In a few months they will find something else to harp on, and you will see t-shirts again. For a while they made a big deal about visible tattoos (those hired after 2007 if IIRC) have to keep them covered with clothing or a wrap that is close to the color of your skin, now not so much. Right now in the Transit Bureau the big thing is Metrocards, swipe going to post, on post, before a train run, after a train run, to meal, from meal, on a directed patrol, swipe everywhere you go, even answering a job. they are trying to track us via the Metrocard. It was tried once before, and was a hot topic for a month or two. Every job has its share of BS, even up here in the burbs.
Good Luck with the psych. Best advice I got, take every civil service test you can. PD and FD, even if you have no shot of getting hired (for example Yonkers even if you are a non-resident). Every test is a practice for you, and you will get a feel for how the exam process works. There is only so many ways they can ask questions. After a while taking the tests you become more relaxed with it. I know when I took the FDNY test in 1992, I was nervous as hell, by the time I took the NYPD exam in 1998 I was real calm. In between I took Stamford, CT PD & FD, Mt Vernon PD &FD, Yonkers PD & FD, Westchester County towns and villages PD & FD, plus filed for a bunch of jobs in upstate NY that were given on the same day (all taken right here in Westchester). After a while all the questions were familair.

Sorry but out of all the federal stimulus packages the auto industry is the only one to me that made sense. If any one of the auto companies failed we could have been back in another great depression. It kept Americans who truly needed it working. The majority of that money was repaid. The bank bailout was ridiculous as there are plenty of other banks to pick up the slack. It would have hurt the strength of the dollar...but no where near the amount of people would have lost their jobs like that if they auto industry collapsed.

This POS should have never even been on the street to begin with, but you can thank the liberal judges for that! Today's Post said that this Skell had FOURTEEN prior arrests since 2006. One of the arrests was for an armed robbery that this Skell and another Mutt committed last year, then sliced that guys face open..............WHY was he on the street to begin with.................Unfortunately, he'll probably be hailed as a martyr in Rikers for shooting a cop...........what he SHOULD be getting is a daily a** raping! So tired of reading about these career MUTTS who continue to committ serious crimes, and these Liberal POS judges barely give these guys a slap on the wrist, let alone jail time...............

It would make sense to fold the villages into town PDs. but from an officer's perspective, the opportunities with the County PD are greater:
    - faster promotions and advancements
    - more specialized teams
    - exposure to various facets of the county, from parks to social services to airport.
    - larger dept, better support

I agree that people " allow " funding for the emergency services to be cut partially due to the " It won't ever happen to me " school of thought.
We all know that thinking that way is a recipe for disaster.
So on the side of the chopper underneath where it says Sheriff will there be a large logo of the sponsoring business ?
I can hear it now - " This is air 1 sponsored by rice a roni the san francisco treat and we are responding to you perp search"
Incidentaly I happen to love rice a roni

Just saw this article in the NY Post, http://m.nypost.com/;s=qVpxiLsb__qTiqftAmOF914/p/news/local/bravest_gush_hour_VklxrQTpx6GyHTduvnhSWK NYPD responding to a call were outnumbered and being attacked by an unruly mob when the crew from Eng 158 used their deck gun to get the crowd to back up. I dont work in Staten Island, but want to extend a thank you. Unfortunately more and more PD units are running short handed, leading to long response times and less back up. My district in the Bronx routinely turns out 1 sector car per tour, and when it hits, the fan, back up seemed like it took for ever, now it does

Then you need ACME's Econo Hook. Just hook on and shut your car off. Saves $1,000 at the pump each year.

The exercise of the first amendment is a wonderful thing; we're one of the few places in the world where you have that. But just because they're opposed to things that I'm opposed to doesn't make them an ally so I have the same right to protest against their methods - not necessarily their message. I don't think "camping" in a park is the kind of protest that will effect change but that's just me and my first amendment talking.
It's refreshing to see that activism is alive and well but the "Occupy Wall Street" movement could take a few lessons from some of the great activists of our time who were articulate and convincing in their message. The double-talk gibberish that they use with the media further alienates me.
And I seriously doubt that any of these protesters want to see our wages increased and our pensions protected. That is part of the hypocrisy.
    My two cents.
  18. 25truck26 liked a post in a topic by SageVigiles in Occupy Wall Street Being Raided!
Wait, the protestors are the police and fire department's friends?
Is that why they defacate on RMPs, spit at Police Officers, pass out flyers that say "when to kill a cop," prevent cops from investigating sexual assaults and help the perpetrators avoid prosecution, prevent EMS from responding to medical emergencies and break an EMT's leg? With friends like those, who needs enemies?
I respect the right to protest. But the fact of the matter is any other group that wanted to protest in that park that way would have been kicked out months ago. These kids need to follow the rules like everyone else, we as a country have humored them for long enough.

I don't think it's so much the cause, it's the caliber of people and their methods of protesting. Their actions are hurting many small businesses and many of them want to end Capitalism and want entitlements aka Socialism. These are the hypocrites who are walkin around with all new ipods and asking for a moment of silence for Steve Jobs. It's just away for some of them to gain notoriety and 10 seconds of fame. Have you seen some of the interviews? Do you feel it's right for the Government to pay for ones College Education. This is the message many of these morons are trying to get out. No I don't feel it's right for CEOS and other Corporation Executives to get bonuses why their stockolders are struggling but is it any different then many Union Executive Board memebers using your Union dues to live the life of luxury and embezzling millions of dollars in union dues. Greed is a problem for many not just in Big Business. IMO I feel most of these protesters are ignorant and hypocritical and have just too much time on their hands. There's work out there you just have to be patient and look for it.

Charlie, then how come before Rual Metro came along, when the Village of Rye Brook asked to have an engine placed into the village of Rye Brook the Port Chester FD/village refused even though Rye Brook was paying for a HUGE portion of the fire protection costs? And seeing how PC operates first hand with my own eyes there are several "problems" that are very evident at EVERY fire. And nobody was trying to bash any department, it was a discussion about how things could/should be IMPROVED. Just because "We have been doing things this way for 100 years kid" doesn't mean it is still the best way to do things. Sometimes you need to change with the times.

Since the SEALS took out Bin Laden, and walked out of his compound with a treasure trove of computers and information, Al Qaeda leaders/bomb makers/planners are being picked off all over the world. I think it's only a matter of time before they get Al Zawahiri, the number two guy, the Egyptian doctor with the ugly birthmark on his forehead (makes a nice target for one of our sharp-shooters).
It took ten years to find Bin Laden, but what a gratifying feeling to learn our boys took him out. He was a crafty evil bastard, hiding in a Pakistani garrison town basically in plain sight, but in the end he wasn't able to outsmart the greatest military the world has ever known. And his over-confidence that he wouldn't be caught led to that mound of information he had in his possession about all of his lackeys, these sicko jihadis that multiplied like the cockroaches they are.
The one guy that I yearn for the news of his imminent departure from the world is one Adam Ghadan; the American mouthpiece traitor who's been trash talking our country since 9/11, making his videos about how evil America is. Can you believe this P.O.S. is a native Californian?
It's awesome to know how relentless our military has been in pursuing and bringing these terrorists to the ultimate justice they deserve; death at the hands of our soldiers.
It's been a tough price we've paid in blood. We've lost thousands of soldiers, and tens of thousands more have suffered horrific injuries.
But just like they initially named a camp early in the Iraq War after Ron Bucca, FDNY Fire Marshall K.I.A. on 9/11, the military has never wavered from the mission to get the miserable scum who attacked us; and took from us some of the greatest firemen and cops of our generation; and thousands of innocent people who just went to work on a bright sunny day in September, ten years ago.
The message is; you hit us hard, then ran and hid. But one by one, you're all going down.
It's hard to keep remembering year after year that our troops are still on the mission, and will not stop until the job is finished, and we get every last one of those responsible for attacking our country. Never Forget.

Not a chance. The military can not even shot down any aircraft without an express verbal authority and approval from the President. While the military has been given some leeway in making this decision without approval, I can tell you there is not a chance in hell that the NYPD has any authority. Think of this, where would that aircraft, or its parts, land if it was shot down over NYC??? Sorry, the ramifications would be like ones we have never seen before. Leave the job where it falls at, the military, not the NYPD.
  23. 25truck26 liked a post in a topic by grumpyff in NYPD has Ability to Take Down Aircraft
He will use the same smoke and mirrors used on crime stats to confuse the pilots into landing their aircraft. This is the same job that refuses to give Tazers to front line patrol officers, resisted 9mm handguns, dragged its feet with extendable batons, and took flash bang grenades away from ESU. I fully expect his plan to be the 600 cops asigned to the WTC command to stand on each others shoulders until they reach the height of the aircraft were upon the top officer will politely ask the pilot of said plane to land at the earliest convenience, or else said officer will loose 10 vacation days.

This article means nothing just like everything else the aclu puts out, it's all garbage. If I stop someone as a suspicous person and they hand me this article I am going to laugh at them and hand it right back to them and continue my investigation into their conduct.
This is another example of people who have no clue about law enforcement trying to tell us how we should act and how we should do our jobs.
Notice how the author of this piece of leftist garbage takes a swipe at the police, "Police officers may legitimately order citizens to cease activities that are truly interfering with legitimate law enforcement operations. Professional officers, however, realize that such operations are subject to public scrutiny, including by citizens photographing them."
So the way I take it is that if I back somebody away from a scene then I am not professional ?
If you feel the need to go to scenes and take pictures, just use your head and stay away and take pictures and if you are challenged by a cop, just don't act like a tool and you will be ok ... and for the love of God don't go quoting the aclu article !!!!!
