  1. Overall the new Code 3 Marauder II model of FDNY Engine 63 is about 95% accurate. There are a few minor mistakes but overall Code 3 did an excellent job with this new mold. I cannot say the same for the American LaFrance TDA of the 1968 closed cab or the 1960 open cab version. It's a shame as this could have been one of the best releases Code 3 would have done to date. I don't think you will see a Diamond Plate release from Code 3. Over the next two years they will be concentrating on the 1/64 scale models.

  2. The Canon lens it came with, do you mean the 18-55 with Image Stabilization? (Indicated by IS)

I find that lens personally to be excellent for photographing fire apparatus. I also use a Tamron 18-270, which is an excellent "walkaround" lens for everyday use. Wide angle to telezoom in one lens is a great convience, especially when photographing incidents.

I don't know if Joe Pinto, Mike Messar, Mike Martinelli, Bill Johhson, Eli Gill, or the many other great apparatus photographers use a certain type of lens for their shots of apparatus, but I'd sure like to know!

Tommy Bendick also posted an awesome tutorial on this forum several years back on how a circular polarizer can really enhance an apparatus shot:

For my Canon 20D and XTI I use a Canon 18-200mm IS lens. For portraits and up close photography I use a Canon 60mm Macro Lens. I also have a 18-55mm IS Canon lens. I use the 18-200mm 95% of the time when photography apparatus or at fires.

  3. Awesome photos, Joe! I love the new Squad 15, and their patches! Didn't even know they had that Utility. Did the get rid of Rescue 29?

And if Squad 15 is replacing Engine 151, then I assume that Engine 150 will become a spare with that designation?

Engine 150 will become the spare and I passed on Rescus 29 and realized after putting the whole departemnt up I should have photographed this unit. I have it in my files and will post it later.
