Firefighters are battling a very smoky, three-alarm blaze at 103 Webster Ave. that broke out shortly before 4 p.m.
As of 4:30 p.m., flames engulfed the roof of the three-story residential building and smoke enveloped the neighborhood. Firefighters had set up a ladder to the roof of an adjoining building and chainsaws were heard. The building appears to be a total loss and another building has been damaged. A large throng is congregated to watch the firefighters as they fight the stubborn blaze in the Nodine Hill section of the city. Details about a cause and possible injuries are not yet available.
Another Fire Alarm 10-26 was reported at 654 Bellevue Avenue, at around 4:35 PM in the City, where the remaining Yonkers Fire Apparatus (Squad 11, Engine 314, and Ladder 70 and Car 4), along with Mutual Aid companies (New Rochelle Engine 22) from Neighboring Communities were dispatched to.
At 4:40 PM, a 10-32 (Alarm Reported) at Gorton High School where other Mutual Aid companies, along with Engine 314, Ladder 70, who were just released from the 10-26 job, were dispatched to.

    >> "Our plan is to staff this Canteen 24/7 with at least 2 people and have it automatically respond to working fires (1st Alarm) within a 40 minute or so drive from its home base. It would also respond automatically to any 2nd Alarm or higher outside that 40 minute window or when requested by local agencies. This procedure has been successful for the Providence Canteen for many years and we plan on adopting it. We want everyone to understand that we are not there to hinder your operation, but to provide rehab to firefighters, police and other hard working personnel. The process of automatically responding means the Canteen will be there when it’s needed to rehab personnel on scene, not hours later. If we arrive at your scene and you do not need us or want us, then we will turn around and await another incident without question". <<
    >> "If you are an area chief or official and have questions or concerns on exactly what we intend to do please contact us......This is all new to us at New England Citywide and we are looking for your input. Again we plan on adopting a lot of Providence Canteen's ways, but we also understand things done in RI or MA may not work here in CT". <<
This sounds very well meaning and most likely a needed service, but I have major reservations about the model they are using. Why not go to the chiefs 1st and offer the service, not we will show up no need to call. Why not set it up on an automatic bases so the dispatcher will dispatch you instead of you hearing it on a scanner and buffing it.
Automaticly responding on a 40 min drive distance for a working fire? Most of our working fires are done in 30 minutes or less. Also what does "responding" mean? I see they have red lights are they legal to use in CT?
How is this different than "Aviation Fire" in the Bronx?

  11. Disaster_Guy liked a post in a topic by INIT915 in Amber Alert *HOAX* - Newburgh NY 9/5/12
    AMBER Alert Guidelines
A Law Enforcement Agency with an inquiry about an AMBER Alert can contact the NYSP Special Victims Unit through the State Police 24/7 Communications Section at 518-457-6811.
The New York State AMBER Alert Plan can be activated when an investigating law enforcement agency has reasonable cause to believe that:
An abduction of a child (under the age of 18) has occurred, and
The child is believed to be in danger of serious bodily harm or death, either due to the actions of another or due to a proven mental or physical condition.

Even if formal activation criteria have been met, activation may be impractical if available information is not specific enough and/or an extended period of time passed since the disappearance.
For example, an AMBER Alert specifying involvement of a white van (without a license plate number) could actually hinder an investigation by causing the public to inundate police agencies with possible sightings.
    Notes:

"Reasonable Cause to Believe" means that from eyewitness accounts, OR by eliminating other possibilities, your investigation leads you to believe that a child has been abducted.
Familial abductions qualify only if a child is endangered by the actions of the abducting family member.
Whenever an AMBER Alert request does not meet activation criteria, requesting agencies are referred to other NYSP investigative resources and to the NYS DCJS Missing Persons Clearinghouse (MPC) for possible issuance of a Missing Child/College Student Alert.

The way the county calls it's 'alert levels" is inconsistent with the way the rest of the flight world. HPN has classified 3 different types of calls, Alert level 1, Alert level II and Alert Level III (have yet to figure out what they mean)... The rest of the world has Alert 1, Alert 2, and Alert 3, with levels 1-5. So you can have an "Alert 2 level 4" incident.
The levels are laid out like so:
Alert 1 Airport (Possible Crash) - minor problems or equipment failures
Alert 2 Airport (Probable Crash) - major problems (mechanical or electrical) or major failures of equipment / systems
    Alert 3 Airport (Crash/Aircraft Incident)
    Level 1) 1-2 Souls
    Level 2) 3-10
