With all of the changes made since DiBlasio took over it seems like the City does not want a police department any longer.
Maybe they should change the name from the NYPD to the NY Department of Social Workers and Problem Solvers.
What is next the City council providing money for vehicles  with couches so the NYCDoSWaPS (NYC Department of Social Workers and Problem Solvers)
can do mobile counseling when faced with confrontations.
What is next, before roll call all of the officers will be instructed to join hands and sing Kumbaya to set the tone of the shift. Rose colored glasses are optional.

Even IF there was a reason for him to remove his weapon from the holster... He must have missed the key safety rules.
All guns are always loaded. (Treat them so!) Never point the gun at anything you are not willing to destroy. Keep your booger picker off the bang switch until you are ready to fire. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.

    From the article
A 21-year-old man has been charged with criminal homicide after a teenage boy died of a gunshot wound inside a fire department Sunday in Redstone Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania State Police said.
    And
Matis was arraigned and taken to the Fayette County Prison, where he is being held without bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 7.

A truck and a small boat does not make a swift water rescue unit. This looks more like a unit to remove people from a flooded street after a water main break. Im not an expert but you would think one would need dry suits, PFDs large reels of rescue rope block and tackle(just to name a few).

King Como II is at it again!
ALBANY - Gov. Andrew Cuomo's administration dotted New York with 514 highway signs touting its tourism programs despite a federal ruling explicitly prohibiting the state from doing so.
Documents obtained by the USA Today Network's Albany Bureau show the Federal Highway Administration has repeatedly notified Cuomo's administration over the past three years that the signs violate federal and state law, which contain strict rules for what can and cannot be displayed on major roadways.
But the state Department of Transportation and Thruway Authority appear to have ignored the warnings, rapidly expanding the signage across the state while federal officials continued to voice concerns.
"It is our responsibility to ensure safety and compliance with (federal traffic sign rules) and therefore cannot condone the use of non-compliant signs on the federal-aid system in the state of New York," Randy Warden, a team leader for the highway administration, wrote to the state DOT in April 2014.

My only concern is that the policy includes " using heavy vehicles". Switzerland is not exactly the wide open spaces like Montana. I guess they have different liability laws there.

Just like when they took the "aluminum (4 D cell) kel lights" away from the LAPD and replaced them with plastic "Nerf lights" .
They thought the aluminum lights could be used a a weapon.  Although they were quite bright and quite effective.

I think someone had a brain FART  when they made this selection.

Its hard to take someone seriously when they get out of one of these vehicles.
But then maybe its the administration's hope that the bad guys would be laughing too hard to run?

I know a few troopers of the same size who used to drive the 5.0L Mustangs.
We used to chuckle watching them getting in and out of those cars.

NYPD has added new vehicles to their fleet. I saw a few of these in Manhattan today.

Maybe we could have a caption contest?
    Here are my entries
    1) "I thought I told you not to leave the RMP out in the rain!"
    2) "And what do you want to be when you grow up?"

From the NYS Department of Financial Services:
Question: What can fire tax funds be used for?
Answer: Except as otherwise provided by a special act, fire tax proceeds may be used for any purpose which the members of the fire department or company determine to be for the use and benefit of the department or company as a whole.

Some examples of how the funds can be used include: department social functions - such as installation dinners, picnics, banquets, holiday parties; appliances, furniture, televisions for the firehouse; dress & parade uniforms, hats, boots, jackets, t-shirts, turn out gear, and equipment for members of the department; offset of costs from life or disability insurance (must be group policies); and office equipment such as computers and fax machines.

If the funds are designated to be received by an exempt or benevolent association created by a special act of the New York State Legislature, the use of the monies is limited to those purposes set forth in the special act.

For further clarification on this issue contact the Office of the State Comptroller, Division of Legal Services, at (518) 474-3444.
However the articles of incorporation or rules of the individual organizations may be more restrictive.

The reason for the show is two fold. Air Disasters are very rare and as such they peak the curiosity of viewers. Unfortunately fires are too common and often limited to a brief story on the evening news and forgotten the next day.
The second reason is the the government will spare no expense to recover the plane, reconstruct it, examine every detail of the incident and prepare a detailed report. Like a good detective novel, the investigators always find the cause(s).
Incidents almost always take a year or more to investigate and issue a report. The report is extremely detailed. A TV producer can often take the NTSB report and write a screen play directly from the report.

All fire and police vehicles (not sure about NYC and Buffalo) have official plates assigned, however they are not required to display them.
I remember the fleet manager having boxes of plates in a store room and going crazy when the vehicles were being disposed of.
I believe that one of the fire departments had official plates on the deputy chief's suburban but removed them when they started getting bills for running the ezPass lanes when on thruway calls.
