Nice job by the Firefighters at 158 Engine ... I hope the Police Officers who were attacked are okay ... It remains to be seen what the locals will do to retaliate against the F.D.N.Y ...

On 12/4, the members of Hughsonville FD in the Town of Wappingers helped make a little boys 11th birthday unforgettable. Christopher, the son of a close friend to my wife and I, has been diagnosed with "Leg-Calf Perthies", a bone disorder that has caused the complete deterioration of his right femur. Christopher has been confined to a wheel chair and has recently found out that he will be undergoing the first of several surgeries at Boston Childrens Hospital the week of Christmas. To celebrate his Birthday his family chose to rent the hall at HFD, seeing as Christopher has always loved the fire service. When the members of HFD found out what a fan of the fire department Christopher is they decided to give him a few gifts of their own. Sporting an HFD helmet and a huge grinn, Christopher was pushed through the engine room by the Captian of HFD and given his own personal VIP tour of the station. He almost jumped out of his wheel chair when the Lieutenant pulled "THE BEAST" (45-55 and Christophers favorite truck) into the back lot and sat him in the drivers seat. His eyes lit up as he was lifted into the bucket of the Tower Ladder and his smile could be seen for miles as the HFD members all accepted his challange to a "wheel chair race". Christophers perfect day came to a close with the members of HFD singing "Happy Birthday", having some cake, watching him unwrap his gifts and presenting him with his own HFD patch and T-Shirt (With a picture of "THE BEAST" on it of course).
From Christophers family: "To Chief Glenn Kramer, Assistant Chief Tim Laffin, Captian Ed D'Anna, Lieutenant Trevor Dhalla, Fire FIghter Ryan White and Fire Fighter Chris Baker:
Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts, you have no idea how much this ment to Christopher and how much you have just helped him. It was so wonderful to see him smile like that today. He was still talking about all of you when we got home. Thank You and God Bless!"
Here are a few shots from the party. I wanted to post this to remind all of us why we do what we do. As the members of HFD showed today, It's not all about getting on the big red truck and running into the devils play ground. It's about the smile on a little boys face when you hand him a helmet and say "blow the horn". Thank you again HFD for making Christophers birthday so special for him. Stay Safe!
If anyone would like to be kept up to date on Christophers journey PM me.

    So much for Brotherhood, eh?
There's a difference between giving honors to an active member who passes away and a Line of Duty Funeral. A BIG difference. But I have absolutely no problem putting on my Class A's to pay respect to a Brother who dies on duty or off. Regardless of the circumstances, Mahopac FD lost one of their family members in a really horrific way, and if they decide they want to do a service for him, that's their business.
All the guys and gals I've met from Mahopac are stand-up people who take care of their own, and despite all the other BS that goes on in the fire service, when it comes down to it, that's one of the core elements of who we are and what we do. THAT'S the Brotherhood, its more than just a T-shirt or a sticker on your helmet. THAT means something.
Having been to LODD funerals for both Fire and Police Brothers who have paid the Ultimate Sacrifice, I can tell you there IS a difference. Even if the two services were exactly the same, you can just feel the difference in the air. I pray that those of us who have experienced that never have to again. And if you never have had the honor of attending one of those services, count yourself among the lucky.
    Stay safe Brothers and Sisters.

What is also embarrassing is someone commenting when apparently they didn't read my post, aren't familiar with any number of my posts, self interpreted my post and either doesn't know my background based on prior posts comments or word of mouth. If you'd like to know by all means go back and read some there are 3800+ so there's plenty to see that I'm not part of the kinder, gentler fire, eat cake and wear blinders fire service. Quote one sentence in my post where I hinted at one excuse at what happened. By all means please do. And then once you continue to try to slant something to fit your mindset...I want you to then find one where I took the auspice off the person (again, didn't say firefighter). Someone called that individual an idiot. Anyone with experience, particularly supervisory experience in the fire service can watch that video objectively and look at the situation and break down the other actions going on around. You can even see the body language of the person who fell that he wanted to pop right up and not take any verbal abuse from the crowd to maintain whatever standing he did. Mob mentality...read about it.
The bottom line is this....how do you know he is a firefighter when the video was taken? I mean hell..my son wore turnout gear for halloween in 2010...does that make him a firefighter? He could have just been voted in that month got a physical and was handed gear. The responsibility on him is very minimal if from what I remember about discussions about it that he was very new when this was made. So your argument that he is a "firefighter" is weak. For all we know he wasn't even issued a bailout system at that point, was given one to "try" or wasn't properly trained on it. And whether you want to think so or not, I know many young people that aren't all that mature when it comes to wanting to fit in with a crowd..particularly one you find to be the "cool" click in the firehouse. The desire to fit in for some can be immense and the majority of the responsibility falls on the members on the ground, especially the ones who have been around long enough to know and if there is an officer on that ground. Then they are done. The most that new member would have gotten from me was a verbal. Call me crazy but I've been around enough firehouses as a member of several different departments in my life to see how things roll.
Izzy....as a firefighter..and your brother...didn't shoot me in the foot...those are the best videos when you can actually see a name in it. For everyone of those idiots..there are those that strive to do things that right way...by the accepted practice way....not the "we do it different here" way...or the "that's the state way" bailout for those inexperienced talkers who talk game..but have no game.
  15. peterose313 liked a post in a topic in Training? NOT! What on earth were they thinking?
If that is a person convicted of arson it has nothing to do with what is being viewed here. And if you listen to the audio you can clearly hear people shouting to him where to place the device and what to do. This video is old by the way..it wasn't as if it was taken yesterday. So who is actually the idiots here? A newer member who is manipulated into doing something they have no idea what they are doing? Or the ones who facilitated an unsafe act for nothing other then what can be considered hazing in a form?
I love how so many of you have harsh comments..but yet I could come watch your dept. training and find things that I find unsafe, backwards etc..and that's in formal training.
This one just happens to be an impromptu event with a gang of young people..I will not use the term firefighter..egging on a member to do something extremely egregious. And make no mistake...for the time this was seen by some around the area..long before it hit you tube...the ones on the ground should be suspended or IMHO I would have booted them.

After these misguided individuals finish with OWS maybe they should go and protest outside all of the Universities and Colleges who charge astronomical tuitions to attend putting individuals in debt up to their a** before they even graduate and find a job. There's something nobody has any control over and won't say s*** about.

Many times these injuries are serious and potentially career ending. Prayers for the stricken officer, may he be blessed with a not too severe injury, and a speedy recovery.
And for the rest of us: MOVE OVER AND AWAY from a traffic stop!!! "Keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the wheel....."

Let us remember that the difference between a revolution and a rebellion is whether or not it is successful. It is probably dirty down there and there are probably a few scruffy characters. In any group there will be those whose intentions are self serving. A careful reading of history will show the founding fathers were not saints either. I am continually amazed that so many people think the problem is that the rich aren't rich enough or that making them richer will mean better crumbs falling from the table for the rest of us. 'Trickle down' is fine for body fluids but makes for poor economic policy.
Protest is not just a part of the American fabric, it IS the American fabric. Free people standing up and saying "This is wrong, there has to be a better way." has been the foundation upon which this country is built. The established order makes the most of their power, sends in troops, the protesters push back, the courts interpret the rules. On a good day, no one gets hurt in the process. Life goes on. I think it's a great system. A life without protest would be like.... communism?
So, thank you to the system for keeping us safe and thank you to the protesters who remind us that there is a better way and that we need to find it.

Of the thousands of people who've come and gone through there, there have been many pieces of garbage. This is not the majority. By your logic all cops are murdering, thieving, rapists. Every firefighter is a drug dealing thief. Every EMT is a pedophile and thief. The worst of any group is always hyped and this group has absolutely done themselves a great disservice by rallying behind everyone with the same fervor.
The group has recently received an injunction preventing their eviction from the park for the time being. I truly hope the groups takes advantage, holds out till their two month anniversary and packs it in. They can then hopefully regroup and find a more productive next step. They started a conversation that was not happening in the mainstream media before this began. The news is now focusing more on them than why they're there.

I got a good one for you. A few weeks ago I was in Boston at South Station and watched "Occupy Boston" for awhile. Many of the protestors were wearing anarchy t-shirts and holding anarchy signs while chanting "This is what democracy looks like" in a country that's actually a republic... clearly they were confused. #Occupyahistoryclass

These protesters may be your friend but they certainly aren't mine. These people don't care one iota about civil servants or even the common man. There have been many media reports about small businesses in the wall street area that have had to lay people off due to the decrease in business since these miscreants have shown up.
I support the constitution and people's right to protest and I don't agree with corporate greed. I think the system is broken and needs to be changed and there are ways to change it however those ways don't include running through the streets like a bunch of animals, pissing and shitting on police cars, raping, stealing, using drugs and in the case of occupy oakland, shooting people in the head. This is not an organized protest this is an occupation with no clear goal or purpose.
The protesters don't care about lower taxes and higher wages because most of them DON'T WORK and DON'T WANT TO. Watch the news reports, read the signs, they want to be given what you have worked for.. they want to take money for student loans and then NOT pay them back. They believe that if I work hard and make money that it should be shared with them ... f*** THAT. There have been signs that advocate the overthrow of the government, the ending of capitalism and the rise of socialism.
Rudy Guiliani said it best, "Instead of Occupying wall street, how about you occupy a job"

Currently NYPD are in full riot gear gearing up to shut down occupy wall street. On site are various media outlets, NYPD, DSNY, FDNY and reportedly but not confirmed LRAD. There are several carting companies on site dropping off dumpsters. Though by the time many of you read this, it will likely be long over and done with. OWS is or will virtually be no more.

The parade is not run by the City, it is run by the chamber of commerce. Layoffs will cost them more in insurance and they know it.
And this invite is coming from the Uniformed Fire Fighters Association Local 273.
The parade offer has been in the works since spring and its to honor the those who are serving and those who have served.
We have had layoffs in the past and picketing and rallies have never in our city changed the political will. But the public has a major say in what happens. So this is a great opportunity to show the public the significance of the NRFD.
We are asking you to stand with us. Thank You for your support.
