Seth, I think if Ford ever did being back the Bronco, it'd be more like this concept from a few years back and not like the next gen f-150 lol

Arlington FD Engine 11 was hit by a drunk driver Apr 5 while working a traffic accident. Engine 11 was blocking a portion of the road while crews were caring for patients when it was struck at high speed by a drunk driver. There were 3 fire fighters still in the cab of the engine. All 3 were transported and are ok. Engine 11 has been declared totaled.
This goes to show why we place apparatus the way we do on scenes. I know that here in South East Texas, we get a lot of flack from local PD and SO about blocking the road around the scene for our safety. They seem to find getting traffic flowing to be more important. An event like this proves why we use our apparatus as a safety cushion. Had Engine 11 not been there, there's no telling how many people would've been killed or severely injured.

I gotta say. I love this show. I know some people are complaining about unrealistic stuff and how it's just a big drama show. But you gotta remember, this is television, and the show is catered to a wide audience and not just emergency personnel. Look past that and just enjoy it for what it is, it's a damn good show. Suspend belief, and have fun lol. If there was a show that covered the not bit details, it may as well be a documentary / reality show. Prime time tv is all about action or drama or comedy, Chicago Fire wraps all that up into one.
I dig Chicago PD too. We'll see how it pans out. Glad they keep the show I remixed with characters from Fire showing up on PD.

We just had a spinal protocol change that kicked in this month. We can decide on "spinal precautions" (c-collar only and sit the patient comfortably) only when we arrive on scene to find the patient has already compromised c-spine by walking, bending over, and other movement. Major MOI and non-compromised c-spine has us still using back boards.
Though I've been hearing the last couple years that the use of backboards has come under debate.

I much prefer a raised roof. Our Stock pierce is a flat roof and I don't particularly care for it. I love the space in our new engine with the raised roof. It'll be interesting to see how they create more room. If it will be similar to the Saber in interior space. Though there are a few fire dept's around Houston who have spec'd velocity's with a cab as big as the old Sabers.

I'm pretty excited to see the new chassis. My area here in SETX is dominately Pierce. I know they tend to cost more, but I've had nothing but good experiences with Pierce rigs. Then again, it all comes down to how you spec.

I was watching the same show, Parts Unknown. And to answer your question no its not a new story in fact there is documentary "BURN" that follow Detroit firefighters and demonstrates the harsh conditions in which they work in. I'll provide a link to the film.

Good luck on the move man. I live in SETX about 1 1/2 hours from Houston.
I can tell ya now, there probably won't be another test until much later this year, or next year. They have 2 Fast Track academies scheduled this year and 2 full academies scheduled equaling out to around 200 new hires.
HFD usually holds 3 different tests.
    1. Non-Certified test (Requires 60 hrs of college credit, or 2 years military)
    2. Certified Test ( TCFP & TDH EMT-B / P)
    3. Paramedic (Non-fire cert)
If you have your Paramedic, you're in much better shape. I had talked to an HFD Paramedic the other week when I brought a patient to Memorial Hermann and he informed me they are still very short handed on paramedics right now and they had a lil fumble with this years budget in regards to sending employees to Paramedic school.
Either way, HFD is a great department, and I plan to try out next time they test.
Best of luck to you man. Any questions, feel free to ask. I'll help out as best I can.
Also, if you're not dead set on HFD, be sure to keep track of the TCFP website, as many Texas fire dept's post hiring notifications there.

Although there are no pictures of the completed unit/s. This was on the news the other night. Not sure if many have seen it. Houston will have mobile stroke units staffed by a doctor, nurses, and a paramedic. I think it's a pretty cool concept. Can't wait to see them.
This video is on YouTube via the Frazer Ltd channel.
Not sure if the imbed worked....sorry if it didn't.

Unless these turn out to be cheaper. Farewell E-series, 38 years on the same chassis is enough.

Good lookin rigs. I know HFD has started ordering Spartans and has a couple engines and aerials that have been delivered. I'm not sure if they're in service yet. I saw a couple of the new Frazers they have the other night after doing a transfer to Ben Taub. I like that they finally changed the colors on their boxes to red with white stripes

Hey everyone, sorry I have been absent, It has been a very busy week at work.
    UPDATE & Clarification
In most medical run cases, yes this fire fighter will choose to sit in the engine or help based on the patients race and in most cases this does not affect overall patient care. All fire crews are either EMT's or EMT-P. He is an EMT.
Multiple crews at my company have had issues with him, but only when it was a black patient. We could respond to someone with a stubbed toe and he would make a larger deal out of it and get an attitude with us if he believed that patient wasn't being given the "best possible care" regardless of how well we were doing.
Have I attempted to talk to this fire fighter? Yes, a couple times in fact, he simply ignores me and moves on.
Chain of Command, until recently, none of his immediate officers have done anything about it nor tried to move it up the chain. As far as I have now gathered, the Chiefs have not fully known of his actions until recently.
ANYWAY moving on to the UPDATE.
There has a been a couple new promotions at that fire dept and thankfully for the better. Both captain promotions. There are now 2 Captains who do not put up with his attitude. It became a larger issue on a multi-vehicle MVC with, you guessed it, all white patients. They're response is 1 engine, 1 heavy rescue. There were around 6-7 patients (no entrapment's) all needed spinal immobilization. He attempted his staying in the rig routine, and the newer captain did not put up with it. Much help was needed and he had to suck it up and help.
Since this, he has been under a very watchful eye these past few shifts. I've talked to my friend who also works there and he's has informed me that he is now under investigation due to the multitude of complaints received by the 2 captains & many of our crews who run with that dept more often then I do. As far as to what will happen to him, I don't know. The wreck happened Thursday, so I think if anything more will happen, it'll happen next week.
My friend at the dept is going to keep me informed.

Texas has some good fire dept's though. Houston has a really good retirement, my cousin recently retired from HFD and did very well for the time he served....they have a decent turn around too. They usually hire over 100 a year. Granted that's split between certified and non certified. But surprisingly only about 600-700 test as opposed to Austin that gets 4000+ testing each year. And Texas does like it's Paramedic Fire Fighters if you have your paramedic. I don't know about other states though. I've been testing myself, have another test coming up in Beaumont where I was #1 for the last 3 months of 2011 before the list expired lol.

That's my thoughts exactly. I've heard the issue has been brought up to the higher ups multiple times but no one will do anything about it. And no he's not an officer. I've argued the affirmative action being just with hiring practices but I've heard people believe that it carries over into work itself saying it protects his beliefs. Bigotry is not a belief.
It's just another issue that shows no matter what you do, racism will never go away because of people like that.

Since when did affirmative action dictate patient care. I thought it had to do with hiring practices. He took an oath to protect and serve and if he can't get beyond his racist attitude he is in the wrong profession.
