    Rumors. Rumors. Rumors.

I hear that 60-Control is going to take over dispatching for the International Space Station too.

Yesterday morning Dan, had a PIAA in front of Jack's Auto, car vs. tractor trailer with extrication, the guys used the newly purchased cutter/spreader on the Engine to pop the door. Saw one of the fire commissioners shortly after the accident and he said that purchase already paid for itself on the rigs first run.

FireWatch will never show every unit that responded (except for maybe a very small incident), because that is not how 44-Control logs them in CAD. Only the first responding apparatus and/or officer is logged in CAD for each incident.
When an incident is first created and appears in FireWatch, you will only see "27 Fire Department" until a unit signs in service, then you will see the ID of the first unit in service. If a piece of apparatus signs in service before an officer, you will see the rig's ID. Normally once an officer signs on the air, their ID will also be entered in CAD.
So for this incident, 16-2 signed in first, so he is the only ID noted in CAD. http://www.44-control.net/historicdetails.aspx?cfsid=-149047
For this incident, 17-Rescue signed in before 17-43, so both are logged in CAD. http://www.44-control.net/historicdetails.aspx?cfsid=-149041
Another factor is which unit establishes command or terminates command. Those will also get logged in CAD for each event.
For this call, 6-2 signed in service first, but 6-4 got on scene first and established command, so both were logged. http://www.44-control.net/historicdetails.aspx?cfsid=-149016
If you see the Base Station listed, that means someone acknowledged the call from the firehouse radio, which stops the "4 Minute Rule" countdown clock (AMA is dispatched if no one responds within 4 minutes)
Note that nothing precludes the dispatcher from logging every unit if they're inclined to do so, but it's not policy to do so.

Today marks the 10th birthday of the EMTBravo.com Forums.
We were here before Facebook, Twitter, before everyone could make their own site or post photos using a wide variety of social media platforms. When we launched in 2003, we were the original and only emergency services community website in Westchester, the NYC Metro area, the lower Hudson Valley and Fairfield County, CT. We were the original "Incident Alert" and place to share photos, before everyone making their own "wire" and FB groups to duplicate and therefore dilute the concept. This site, including the software, was built from the ground up custom for this site.
Here are some quick stats 10 years later:
    -1,000 member visits a day
    -8,000 registrations
    -44,000 topics
    -250,000 posts
    -43,000,000 topic views
    -39,500 personal messages sent
-Members from over 10 countries, and visitors from over 30 countries
    and still growing
Thanks to all who make this website and forum a continuing success!

What it really means is this.
There is nothing I can do, but people are watching, so I will say something meaningless into my radio so that the public thinks I am in complete command and control of the situation.
  14. x4093k liked a post in a topic by paratrooper75 in What Does "Expedite The Medic" Mean?
You hit the expedite button in the flycar/amblaunce to get to the scene 10 seconds faster and make no difference in patient outcome while endangering yourself and your crew for no reason.

Some jackass posted a picture on facebook last night, as the incident was in progress. That BS drives me up a wall.....EVERYONE WANTS TO BE "THAT GUY" THAT HAS THE SCOOP..the first with information, the first to put up a picture.
I swear to God some of these sick phucks take pleasure in other's misfortune. Brotherhood my ass. Any MOS who exploits other agencies, members, or departments situations has no place in the "Brotherhood".
I am glad the outcome was better than it initially sounded. Get well.

Tonight @ 21:00 the Plattekill Fire Department was dispatched for a PIAA on the NYS Thruway at mile marker 71.1 South Bound. Car 1, Car 3, Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 4, 645 and 47-36 where all responding when @ 21:11 We were advised that Engine 4 was involved in a Motor Vehicle Accident, roll over with entrapment.
I have a been some sort of a chief officer for 13 years now, in the fire service for 21 years and never once did I instantly feel like I was going to vomit while responding to an incident...not until last night. I can tell you there are so many things that are going through your head after receiving an alarm involving your own...
What do I do? Whom do I call? How difficult is the extrication? What Happened? What did they hit? Who is in the truck? But the toughest question, the one that still rings in my head is "Are they alive?"
I will not speak of specifics. I will not release the details of this incident and I will let the authorities finish their investigation. But what I can tell you, 4 of the 5 firefighters have been released. Engine 4 is a total loss and the definition of brotherhood was re-taught to me through the actions of area fire departments and fire departments through out the state.
Cronomer Valley whom handled the incident...Thank you!!! Your professionalism went a long way tonight. You are our brothers and for you I am thankful. With out getting into every department that has reached out to us, because I can guarantee someone with be forgotten, whether it be at either at our stations or through phone calls, I had 132 missed calls, Thank you!!! Never have I had such an out pouring of support just for us.
I ask you, do you know what it is like to have to sit at the back of your vehicle trying to coordinate different responses while your Firefighters need YOUR help? Not something I EVER want to handle again.
For years we instill into our memberships heads...Seat belts, seat belts, SEAT BELTS... and on November 2nd 2013 @ 21:11, those seat belts saved their lives.
At St. Francis Hospital...the support continued. Fairview, Roosevelt, Arlington Fire Departments, with Engines, and Lisa Gardner, whom provided me with very informative updates, met the inbound ambulances to assist with ANYTHING we needed, ANYTHING. Tears is the word that best described how I was after I was notified of your support! I cant say thank you because thank you doesn't cover your actions. I owe you... period.
At 1:21 we called back in service, My membership continuing to want to help the community, knowing that what we seen tonight could have been completely different.
We will continue serving the community, we are Plattekill. We ARE Plattekill Strong.
I ask no one post NO Photos or post no details until the investigation is complete and I approve of such postings.
    Thank you Everyone.
    Chief Christopher Mancuso

I want to preface this post with the fact that I have been in the fire service for 17 years both Vollie and Career so please don't interpret this as Vollie bashing... I just think the volunteer chief officers have to be a little more conscious about where they bring their District Vehicle.
Yesterday while shopping at the Woodbury Commons with the family I stumbled upon a Chief's vehicle from Jerico, NY. The first thing I thought of was "typical Long Island again", but then I tried to give this guy the benefit of the doubt and say he was probably coming back from Montour Falls (even though no classes ended yesterday).
Whatever the reason was that brought him 90 minutes outside his district....it does nothing for the public perception of the "Extravagant Long Island Fire Departments" to have your vehicle sitting in the Woodbury Commons parking lot.

Ok,maybe I'm confused,if there is no emergency, such as driving to another one's quarters, how do you justify going Lights and siren's? If and only If, another call comes in,than it's an Emergency, and you go lights and sirens. God help the driver, officer ,chief and taxpayers of the municipality,if that rig gets into an accident, relocating to stand-by in another FD. Not only will the Dept get sued, the officer or Chief and driver may get sued personnally, and if the lawyers can prove negligence on anyone's part, you could be held liable and if punitive damages, that come out of your pocket, not the Department.Sure wouldn't want that headache..
With all the comments on here about let's be safe and what-not,how anyone can advocate screaming to another town to sit in the firehouse, lights and sirens,is mind-boggling..
For that matter, why do we still respond to CO (No Symptoms) calls, and other nuisance non- emergency calls, lights and sirens? That's for another day though....
    Just my thoughts...Cover your A$$.....

How in the HELL can the people of Mt. Vernon allow the Fire Department to operate like this? It is unbelievable that they are so short staffed! Heck we get 40 or more volunteers out the door on every call......shameful.....

You'd be amazed how quick the cost adds up when dealing with communications related equipment and the installation of same. Especially if it is being designed for interoperability with other agencies whom all have different comm equipment.
I'd like to see this thing in person when it's done - being the comm geek that I am.
