I cannot imagine that GFD responds, on the first alarm within 8 minutes, this:

Anything less, and you're endangering life, of both your citizens, as well as the firefighters there.

"Separation of church and state" (sometimes "wall of separation between church and state") is a phrase used by Thomas Jefferson and others expressing an understanding of the intent and function of the Establishment Clause and Free Exercise Clause of the 1st Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. The phrase has since been repeatedly used by the Supreme Court of the United States.
The phrase "separation of church and state" in this context is generally traced to a January 1, 1802 Letter by Thomas Jefferson, addressed to the Danbury Baptist Association in Connecticut, and published in a Massachusetts newspaper.
Jefferson's metaphor of a wall of separation has been cited repeatedly by the U.S. Supreme Court. In Reynolds v. United States (1879) the Court wrote that Jefferson's comments "may be accepted almost as an authoritative declaration of the scope and effect of the [First] Amendment." In Everson v. Board of Education(1947), Justice Hugo Black wrote: "In the words of Thomas Jefferson, the clause against establishment of religion by law was intended to erect a wall of separation between church and state."
A number of letters written by both Jefferson and Madison, show what their intent was, and you have misrepresented their positions. It has nothing to do with current radical atheist's, since this is the position they wrote on 200 years ago.

Its not if tax money was used for the mural, its if any tax money was used to buy the truck.
Because you might then need to use more tax money to defend the dept. in a separation of church & state federal lawsuit.

    You'd be wrong.
If one dime of tax money was used to put the mural on the rig, then the mural should be removed.

I almost feel that changing Type V construction to read "legacy wood" and adding a Type 6 for "light weight wood truss" would benefit classification, and building identity.

How about you stop taking yourself so seriously. Everyone needs to blow off some steam every now and then, and honestly this seems like a fairly harmless way to do it, better than everyone tying a load on at the bar after each shift or call at least. I highly doubt there was any compromise in emergency services coverage nor any waste of money incurred by the making of these videos. For the most part no one really cares about what we as emergency services do in our down time as long as long as we are there when we need them or it doesn't affect their wallet. It was an internet fad, it has pretty much come and gone, and if you look further there were far more disturbing videos of this type posted, some even staged by politicians themselves. Flash in the pan, done and gone.

Just yesterday on the Taconic, I passed a guy taking a long pull on his beer (a Corona, I think) while cruising along at 50+. I wonder if he had his cell phone on, too?

I do not understand all of your post. What do you mean by "wow come on really?" , "have some respect"and ..."even if they are volunteers"? Are you infering that I am being disrespectful? If so, please elaborate why you feel this way.
To be clear to the objective and fair minded readers out there- I intend no disrespect. Is your comment "even if they are volunteers" meant to be demeaning or disrespectful of volunteer Firefighters? If so, I disavow that totally and would point out that disrespecting of any group or individual has no place on this forum.
In answer to your question "what answers are you looking for?"...I am looking for (not demanding, simply inquiring) for answers to the questions that I asked.

I don't know if this even belongs here, but after watching it I thought it was something worth sharing. What follows is a clip from the show Newsroom which very well may be the most honest moment on television. Although the clip is a bit long at 8 plus minutes the bickering of the first three are like a set up for the speech which follows and hits dead on. It is a bit of truth worth taking to heart ...and doing something about while we still can!!
Most honest moment on TV? Yeah I think it is.....

You are right in many ways and I fully respect your views, but as one who has been on both sides of the drug abuse fence I can tell unequivocally that the legal repercussions of drug use are an insignificant deterrent if they are one at all. Now I'm sure some will blow a head gasket with this next comment but when it comes right down to it drug addiction is no different than alcoholism other than alcohol is legal and drugs aren't. The root causes of both afflictions are the same. And when we look at the effectiveness of prohibition it's clear that making alcohol illegal created far more problems than it solved, that's why they repealed the 18th Amendment (alcohol is also a drug by the way). Today people still abuse and illicitly produce and distribute alcohol, but by far making alcohol legal again and giving those who want to drink access to it legally has been the best road to take. And in this day and age with the societal views on drug use, prescription or otherwise, as they are and the stigma far less ingrained as it used to be, so is it with drugs too. No one likes to admit defeat, but the war on drugs, just like the one against alcohol in the 1920's, is one that is unwinnable and no amount of ire, disgust or contempt about drugs and drug users is going to change that.

“It's now very common to hear people say, 'I'm rather offended by that.' As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more... than a whine. 'I find that offensive.' It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that.' Well, so f****** what." - Stephen Fry

They do not attend, they do not vote, they do not volunteer, they don't want their taxes spent on it and they believe that they will never need to call 9-1-1. And as they dial 9-1-1 they pray to god that the PD, FD, EMS are well trained, properly staffed and equipped and they respond instantly.
How often have we heard it took 40 minutes for them to respond (while the tape shows 4 minutes)?
And with the me attitude that is growing, it will only get worst.

I guess I have a couple of things to say:
    1. There are so many typo's in this exam notice I lost count.
    2. You DO NOT need a High School diploma OR a G.E.D. ( I guess you don't need one to write the exam either )
    3. You can be a convicted criminal and/or a drug addict.
    4. You need to lift a 14' roof ladder. ( Who's going to grab the 24' or the 28' for that matter ?)
I'm old school, I admit that. But it's hard to read the exam requirements and not shake my head. I'm starting my 24th year as a Captain. I have been asked many times "what makes a good firefighter?". The answer is: give me a person who played High School sports; who has common sense; and who has a working knowledge of the trades and I'll make you a good firefighter. And that's all I have to say about that.

They are a complete waste of money. A true measure of your worth is not some BS Chinese junk trophy 5 feet tall, its hearing from neighboring FD's that you get $hit done, wether you have 5 guys or 15 at a fire. I haven't been to a parade in probably 15 years, sure they are fun, but if your tax payers knew that you spent 3k between the band, the food and the diesel and gas to get there, you think they would be happy? Sure kids like them, but I bet your neighbor would like those 10-20 people spending a nice sat afternoon at the emergency they called in instead. And I hardly think that the 10 kegs of beer is hurting anyone financially at these events, not when they budget in the tens of thousands to host them.
  24. Morningjoe liked a post in a topic by antiquefirelt in Why do so few NY Depts have 1st responder Ice/ Cold water entry capability?
Having just completed our annual refresher on ice rescue this past Saturday I'll add what our discussion about the risks led to. Generally speaking with the proper training and maintenance of the equipment, the greatest risk of a surface ice/water rescue was the Code 3 response getting there. Using full Ice Commander Suits, helmets and 'creepers" as needed and operating in a safe manner consistent with the training and SOG's, the risks to the rescuers is pretty low. This is one area where the proper PPE really can have a huge impact on the risk.
