Talked to some NYSP troopers and two sergeants. Every car they now buy in bulk is a Ford Utility:

Industrial rig at Merck in Darmstadt Germany. Merck is a German chemical  and pharmaceutical corporation
Year: 2006   Manufacturer: Mercedes-Benz   Country: Germany   Merck Darmstadt Mercedes Rosenbauer

    2-27 TroTLF Mercedes-Benz 3535/Rosenbauer DA-EM 241 1993

One of two Industrial Engines. The nickname is Iguana Here's some basic info:

    Chassis: MB 3535
Bodywork: Rosenbauer (the cab itself was modified by Eller GmbH)
    Manufactured: 1993

    Water tank: 4000 l
    Foam tank: 4000 l
    ABC dry powder: 3000 kg
    CO2: 300 kg

    Pump output: 6000 lpm @ 8 bar

The crew cab in the middle of the bodywork has 4 seats (facing backwards, with BA sets fitted into the backrests). One additional BA set is mounted in the driver's cab. The water tank (and presumably the foam tank as well) is situated behind the crew cab, above the rear axels. A hosereel is mounted in the pump locker, above the pump's control panel. The powder and CO2 tanks are installed above the two front axles. There are 4 hosereels behind the driver's cab, 2 for each agent, on both sides (the smaller one for CO2 and the larger one for powder). There are two roof monitors. The vehicle is also fitted with a 'shower' system (decontamination purposes? the German description didn't say what it is for exactly!).

SFD has Truck 1 which is a Seagrave Tower Ladder and Truck 2 which is a Sutphen Tower. T45 in Belltown  is a Mack Tower Ladder.

Springdale used to run a Snorkel as T56 but that has been gone for years. For the real history buffs SFD used to have a Snorkel assigned as Truck 4 but that has not been a front line company for many years and the current reserve Truck 4 is not a Snorkel.

    Alan,

The only Change that I can see on your list is Truck 2 is no longer a ladder. It is a Tower Ladder. This is the sutphen Tower that was originally at Truck 1 before the seagrave.

The ladder has 3 also. The Assistant Chief is the tenth person on the shift. Currently, this is still our minimum. That fourth guy on each rig makes a huge difference.

Best of luck to the NFD. Happy to see the politicians are speaking up.

If my math is correct, that's 25% of the staff on the floor! I'd assume they'd keep 3 at the sub-station and then drop to 3 on the HQ engine, 2 on the ladder, plus the Assistant Chief. Totally unacceptable. Before looking it up, I figured a city of 28K in 5 square miles would be running 3 or 4 engines and would have about 17 or 18 per shift. How are they going to cover a CITY with 9 guys?

Here we are again, facing layoffs in the City of Newburgh FD.  TWELVE firemen are on the chopping block this time around.
That amounts to (1) less fireman on each piece of apparatus on each tour.
Anybody who has operated on a fire ground knows how detrimental that is.
It angers me to see this happening yet again. I'm angry because several of the firemen facing layoffs are my friends.  What makes me more angry is that the City has done little to nothing to prevent this from happening. This should not have come as a surprise. Steps should have been taken in an attempt to avoid these layoffs at all costs. That did not happen.
Ive said it before and I'll say it again. Hats off to these gentlemen, all of the NFD. They are some of the most aggressive firemen I have ever seen work and have had the pleasure of working with them.
I truly hope for a miracle to keep these men on the job. They deserve it, their fellow members deserve it and the City deserves the proper protection.
Once again, Senator Sean Patrick Maloney has impressed me. This man has continuously had the backs of the NFD and its members. He has faught for them before and continues to do so today. Let's hope he can help once again.

For scanner listening there are a couple of other things that may help.

    SFD Chiefs are Car/Unit 1, Car/Unit 2, Car/Unit 11
SFD Duty Deputy Chief is Car/Unit 4
    SFD Safety Officers are Car/Unit 6, Car/Unit 7, Car/Unit 8

SFD Fire Marshals are all three digit numbers from 101-112
Long Ridge has a Fire Marshal unit 710

    SFD Mechanics are 121-123

VFD officers are three digits units the first number of which matches the apparatus. Glenbrook has cars for chief & assistant Chief. Belltown & Springdale have cars for their chiefs. Most of the time other officers responding are in personal vehicles, but some officers will use these number if they are in a utility.

    Glenbrook: 311 (Chief), 312 (Asst Chief), 313 (Captain), 314 (Captain), 315 (Lieut), 316 (Lieut), 317 (Lieut)
    Belltown: 411 (Chief), 412 (Asst Chief), 413 (Captain), 414 (Captain), 415 (Lieut), 416 (Lieut), 418 (Safety)
    Springdale: 511 (Chief), 512 (Asst Chief), 513 (Captain), 514 (Lieut), 515 (Lieut), 516 (Lieut)
Turn of River: 611 (Chief), 612 (Asst Chief), 613 (Captain), 614 (Captain), 615 (Lieut), 616 (Lieut), 617 (Lieut), 618 (Safety), 620 (EMS Off.)
Long Ridge: 711 (Chief), 712 (Asst Chief), 713 (Captain), 714 (Lieut), 715 (Lieut), 716 (Lieut)

When a VFD station is alerted it is generally up to them what to take. Based on crew & driver availability. So you may hear some occasional odd responses like trucks going on medicals or utilities to car accidents.

Also there is a wide disparity in what is called a rescue. R1 & R66 are heavy rescues. R44 is a medium rescue. R77 is a light rescue (with only 2 seats). R54 is really kind of halfway between a utility and a rescue but carries no extrication equipment.
