So, now what do I do? I presently follow all the laws of my state. Am I supposed to stop carrying my handgun? Do I now lose the right to defend myself?Na....your good..."Live Free Or Die" right?

If it's in your response area and they call 911 for an ambulance, there's a reason for paging volunteers. The distinction you make bothers me - not just you saying it but the prevailing sentiment, so this isn't directed at you. If you're an EMS responder, you go where the calls are regardless of pay status. If you're a volunteer and don't want to respond on calls to the urgent care center when someone walks in feeling ill but is really having an MI, then you need to reevaluate your association and priorities.
We don't pick and choose our calls. The notion that we can/should/do is one of the failures of our current EMS system and why some calls go unanswered.
AMEN! One of my pet peeves when I ran on a vollie ambulance...
"ohhhh we go there too many times....it abusive..."
BS...if you have a collection of old/sick/frail/etc people, you HAVE to expect they will need your servies!

I drove through Detroit...err..I mean ARLINGTON today...saw this building and was pleasantly surprised to see that not only did the AFD do a steallar job of extinguishing such a blaze, but it was a dmn good stop too..now I am no contractor, but i would assume this building IS repairable?
And had they not held it to the building or origin, it would have been a bona fide BLOCK BURNER, destroying many businesses and local landmarks. I am almost positive the building on the exposure 4 side has a block long common basement ;a buddy has a tattoo parlor and leased the basement for.....an archery practice range . (unless that is a violation of town ordinance, then it's leased for storage... )

Them poor bastards from Fairview (Dutchess) kind of get screwed 6 ways to Sunday.

I do understand that much, but I meant are only Dutchess Residents are eligible to take the test?I'd say based on past hiring, that Ulster residents are fair game too.....

how many paid departments are there in dutchess and are any of them looking to hireArlington (fire and fire based transporting EMS with EMT/Paramedic)
City of Poughkeepsie (first response EMS only, transport by commercial EMS)
LaGrange (fire and fire based transporting EMS with EMT/Paramedic)
Fairview (fire based BLS transporting EMS)
City of Beacon (first response EMS only, transport by VAC EMS)
Pleasant Valley (first response EMS , transport by commercial EMS or vollie Ambulance with career member on occasion. Daytime staffing only for now)
New Hackensack (?...this one always escaped me..)
In addition, the Castle Point FD is a career, federal (I beleive; perhaps Beekman could verify?) department, that does not hire off of the civil service list.
Not sure if anyone is hiring, but every year more jobs are getting bigger due to dwindling volunteer ranks, except the PFD..they fighting for what little manpower they have)
And let me add - that if this test is valid for three years or so...i would ANTICIPATE volunteer departments in manpower crisis states to start looking to hire, even if they follow Pleasant Valley's lead with daytime only, and even if it is just as a "driver" capacity..but we all know that a foot in the door is a foot in the door, and today's "driver" will be tommorow's Senior Man.

I think its the new helmet..Hahaha! Definitly!

Residency requirements?Typically, yes.

Yet another reason why I dont mind paying what I do for their services. Great job once again AFD!You will never hear me complain about higher fire taxes, because you get what you pay for!
I've said it 100 times, and will say it until we get it - but I would pay whatever it took to get my town to the protection level of Arlington or LaGrange...career firefighters and paramedics.

I routinely take photos of unboxing and opening archery items provided by my sponsors for posting on forums and blogs - it is pretty common.
