The newest patrol vehicle for BPD is this 2018 Ford Police Interceptor SUV.
It replaces a 2011 Ford CVPI and has been assigned Car 267.

They already do administer the funds.  The way it works is that the 2% funding is initially collected by the NYS Insurance Department(Insurance Law, Section 2118) (I would also like to indicate that this same law gives the State Comptroller's Office full authority to audit all fire department, district, and company treasury departments).  From there, the NYSID distributes the funds to the department/district, who in turn distribute it to the company(ies).  For the sake of this explanation, as both paid and volunteer fire departments receive 2% funding, labor unions representing firefighters and fire officers are considered fire companies.

Now, the issue at hand about how to appropriately spend these funds is detailed in Sections 9104 and 9105 of the State Insurance Law.  Essentially, these sections state that the money must be spent FOR the firefighters and their families, such as to provide food and refreshments after drills and meetings, parades, and picnics; fire department tee shirts, jackets, and other apparel; furniture, air conditioning, and entertainment for firefighters at the fire house; annual awards banquets and holiday parties for fire company members; and radio receiving devices (pagers).  The list for what you CANNOT spend the money on is just as long, which includes paying for training courses, fire prevention, medical leave/benefits (although there is a caveat on that which I'll explain below), assisting disaster survivors, and paying for delegates to attend conferences/conventions.

The caveat with medical leave and benefits can be legal if, and only if, the company has been approved legislatively for the funds to go to a benevolent association, in which then the money can be used to reimburse firefighters for medical expenses that they paid for out of pocket.

A CDL is not required for any emergency vehicle, only a valid drivers license.
Almost all fire apparatus would required a CDL without the exemption.
However the person delivering the vehicle is required to have a CDL. Once it is owned by a political subdivision,
the vehicle is considered an authorized emergency vehicle and the CDL exemption kicks in.
They are even exempt from the tow truck regulation as are the NYPD tow trucks.
(for those who would ask). Tow trucks are required to have tow truck plates.
This is because tow trucks are required to have higher limits in insurance.

I don't know, I'd say there is a lot of things that can go wrong: rollover? damage to the undercarriage? undesigned stress to the frame? I'd want to be damn sure that what I was doing was absolutely necessary for life or limb. In the case above, it would not appear to have been necessary, but of course we only have a 1/1000 of a second snapshot, so who's to say?

this is a non story - perhaps we should make an amendment that you only can run for President if you are poor.  That way they will be so impressed with White House - have no vacation homes and just stay in the White House for 4 years (maybe 8).  Its life, its the law - I know a ton ton more waste everyday in the federal Gov't going on every single day.

Anytime we had the President stay in the city, there was a detail assigned to the hotel at night. Usually POTUS stayed at the Waldorf Astoria (not anymore, since a Chinese company bought the hotel recently) when he stayed in Manhattan (obviously Trump will stay at his "place"). We hired manpower for an engine and a ladder, and we staged in a hotel room one floor below POTUS, with standpipe "roll-ups" (hose) and truck tools and PPE/SCBA. Also there were 2 F/Fs stationed at the fire command station /alarm panel. It was an OT night tour, but not as nice as being in your own station. One night tour I worked the Presidential detail, we had a member of Ladder 2 on the crew. Since it was his company's  administrative/building inspection district, he knew the fire safety director. He asked him to have the hotel staff bring up as many folding cots as could be fit into the room, so we could all have a "resting place" during the night. The beds filled the whole room- when there was a smoke detector activation at 0200,  and the brothers at the alarm panel called up to us, it was chaos as  11 guys tried to find their bunker gear and Scotts under the beds! Also, the deputy chief was pissed several days later, when the Waldorf sent the dept. a bill for all the food/snacks ordered from room service and used from the mini-bar. Ah, the good old days!

  19. billy98988 liked a post in a topic by antiquefirelt in KME Lowest Bidder For New FDNY Rescues
As I recall both Ferrara and KME had to specifically build new cab designs to meet the FDNY spec, they weren't already on their line. So it would be possible for another builder to do the same if they thought it was worth the effort. I doubt the majority of the fire service has the same street and station limitations that require the need for the split tilt cab, so you have to really put a lot of stock in your ability to keep an FDNY contract, and hope some other just use the FDNY spec because it must be the best (which I imagine it is...for them).

I know many folks in this forum must have some direct knowledge, but early on there was a lot of grumbling about the KME product, but maybe that would be the same of anything? Unlike many fire departments where the apparatus is the crown jewels of the department, I suspect most FDNY personnel see the apparatus as merely tools that allow them to do the job, thus they set the bar high.
