They might not be experts, but the details they posted pretty much mirror the ones that you offered, so, not sure where all your outrage emanates from.

5 things that ALL company officers say: "No, you can't." "Please don't." "Please get off that ladder." "Stop! You're going to hurt yourself!" "I told you so."

No one, NO ONE is suggesting that we forget thsoe that died in the Civil War. The flag has nothing to do with recent events, however it is a symbol of division and treason and it should NOT fly over a State House. It belongs in history books and museums.
Wanna fly it? Go ahead. But it doesn't belong on State land.

...I thought this was a rational discussion.
The Confederate Flag is a symbol of division. It represents a time that tore this country in half and killed hundreds of thousands of Americans. Ahhh, but whatever, Pride not Predudice right?

    This generates some interesting questions.
Why do NYS DOH BEMS vehicles even have red lights and sirens? Are they authorized emergency vehicles? (This creates an even more interesting question, why?)
Does the State of NY have an EMS agency code and inspect their own vehicles as "emergency ambulance service vehicles"?
Given the inherent danger of roadside stops, why on Earth would a state EMS rep decide to "pull over" another EMS vehicle on the side of the road? Couldn't he follow them to their base or hospital? What was the "emergency"? (I don't think this is an emergency operation under NYS law.)
If someone refuses to pull over for the DOH buff mobile what if anything can be done to them? They're not a peace or police officer are they?

While we may all agree the PC has gotten out of control, those us us in public service must note that who pay taxes to pay our salaries have an expectation that we will conduct ourselves in a manner that ensures all are treated equally. When some forms of speech are tied directly to a person (Forums, Facebook, actual speech), it makes it very difficult for others to believe they can "leave their beliefs at the door". Time and again it has been proven that you do not have the right to what some might consider "hate speech" if you are in the public's employ. Nowadays it's too hard to discern one's private life from their public employment life and thus many are in hot water over what they thought was their right to speech.
I'm in no way trying to be part of the PC police, but pointing to the reality of the situation. Remember there is a difference between free speech and protected free speech, it can be the difference between being on the job or in the unemployment line.

So, it's cowardly and lilly-livered to take down a flag that was flown specifically to show rejection to Civil Rights laws and integration? That flag was not flown from the South Carolina Capital until the 1960's and it was done so just to show contempt for Federal Laws banning segregation. Simply put, that flag was flown in support of segregation. Period. You wanna fly one? Go ahead, it's your right as a private citizen. Institutions of state, however, should not.
As for Old Navy's "illegal" shirt....there's nothing illegal about it. The US Code as it relates to the treatment of our flag is not law. It's a code of conduct and instruction in how to properly care for or flag. Personally, I follow these codes. I do not fly my flag at night and it NEVER touches the ground. When tattered, I drop it at the VFW in for proper disposal. However, should someone chose to shamefully ignore these rules, they have that right and they're not breaking the law.
Lastly, it is not illegal to fly the flag of a vanquished enemy....your friend is mistaken. However, Stars and Bars, it is a flag of insurgency.

Exactly, in a historical context it can be appropriately displayed.
But to fly it as some kind of middle finger to the north ignores a key rule of warfare that has existed for thousands of years: Winner picks the decor...

I'm no fan of this liberal gov't or the agenda that it's pushing. I also don't think the confederate flag has anything to do with that tragic mass-murder a couple of weeks ago. However, lets not get crazy....no one is saying you can't fly or display a confederate flag. Each person is free to do so under the constitution. What is at issue is whether a gov't institution should be flying that flag. My personal opinion is no.
I'll soap box a little further....the confederate flag is a flag of treason. Today, we'd probably have branded them terrorists. Lastly, The flag that is currently flying over the Carolina State House was only raised in the 1960's as a symbol of defiance in the face voting rights and school integration. So, it's not some historic battle flag that'd been flying there for a century, it's simply a symbol of division.

While they may have changed the title over the years, as they have with so many other professions, I believe the public will always equate the two titles. I don't think most people, certainly anyone who has every watched a prison documentary, believes it is other than a very difficult and thankless job.
I really don't think there is anything wrong with being referred to as a guard. You are tasked with guarding the public from societies miscreants.

The top picture is of 2F42, which was assigned to the Palisades. The second picture is 1K87, a slick-top, which handled the northern end of the Taconic. When they were in service, there were several dozen assigned around the state.

Lets take it one step farther. The town of Pelham is 2.2 square miles. Approximately 1/2 is the village of Pelham and the other half is the village of Pelham Manor. They have an elected town supervisor and four Town Board members. plus Assistant to the Supervisor, Comptroller and ten departments: Town Clerk, Receiver of Taxes, Assessor, Courts, Town Engineer, Buildings, Senior Advocate, Historian, and Controller/Bookkeeper all in one town hall,
Then the villages have 2 of everything:
    2 village managers
    2 village clerks
    2 village Police Departments
    2 village Fire Departments
2 village Department of public works,
    2 village Building Inspectors.
    2 village attorneys
    2 village Mayors and Boards
    1 ALS flycar
AND is the only community in Westchester county with NO AMBULANCES.

See you've been a member of this site since 2007, yet I don't see a single incident posted under your account. Why not contribute ?
I used to contribute incident alerts on occasion, but really don't have the time to sit and listen to the scanner for hours on end anymore.
Being that most of these incidents are now instantly posted up on Facebook these days, whats the incentive for users to spend hours listening to an incident rather than spending time with their families or other hobbies just so grateful users like yourself are satisfied ?

I think you're underestimating the power of the elected sheriff, especially in Putnam County. I don't think a lot of people are going to want to just cede control to the county executive or whomever would appoint a Police Commissioner.
The Sheriff's Office will certainly not want to be relegated to jail and civil duties alone and give up road patrol. Look at the battles raging in Rockland County about the Sheriff's road patrol. Westchester's "Sheriff" is the commissioner of public safety. The Public Safety Emergency Force is their "auxiliary" unit. And call it like it is, the County PD doesn't take almost everything anywhere. They're even second fiddle to the state police in Cortlandt where they're contracted for police service. County PD is only primary on parkways, parks and the airport. Hardly like Nassau or Suffolk.
It is true that "everyone in the state" pays for the state police but are their services equitably distributed? Is it fair to say that they "always provide patrol services"? They don't in NYC so half the population of the state is paying for something they don't receive. Do they do anything besides parkway patrol on Long Island?
Be careful saying always and never. It is definitely not a clear-cut process or decision. I'm also willing to bet that the residents of Carmel and Kent will fight against seeing their taxes being used to send their cops to other towns. I believe a study recently showed that Carmel PD was substantially understaffed based on calls for service, arrests, etc.
  23. velcroMedic1987 liked a post in a topic by INIT915 in Putnam considers merging PDs
Exactly right. A "source" at this stage is just guessing, nothing more. Given the enthusiasm outlined in that article, this sound FAR from a done deal, let alone what the logistics are.
  24. INIT915 liked a post in a topic by velcroMedic1987 in Putnam considers merging PDs
Facscinating that there are sources before the study actually starts to decide what would be consolidated and how.
I'm pretty sure that the sheriff will have something to say about his jurisdiction being curtailed to make room for this "new" agency.
