in northern Westchester alot of the volunteers work for the DPW. and carry there pager in the truck and help out where they can. I know some of the DPW trucks in north castle actually have 46.26 on there radios or the VHF repeater to 46.26 I am sure there not the only town that has this. But other wise there is no offical communication unless you call a police desk or the DPW desk directly

usually the FD will park behind the fly car once they get on scene so now the car is protected

    Right back pocket: Wallet
    Left back pocket: Car keys
Left front pocket: A couple of crinkled up dollar bills
    Right front pocket: iPhone
Radio strap and radio over right shoulder
My point here is that the equipment was kept in our bags.

Use a 60 control ID And then have an airport radio ID/handle/call sign. Alot of agencies have different radio IDs when they are not using any 60 control radio.

I will 100% agree about doing preventative DWI things. Education, demos at High Schools, etc. You want to borrow the light tower, fine, here is how to operate it and please fuel it up before you return it. But thats where FD involvement needs to end. As for having FD people at a checkpoint in any capacity (or none at all), absolutely not. Way too much liability, not to mention "not my job at all".....

We have had our department team up wwith the RCMP & EHS NS around the first of December every year with MADD & one of the local funeral homes to promote the MADD drinking & driving promo for the XMAS season.
Also sometimes the taxis get involved and signs asking: Who do you want to drive you home from your XMAS party or New Year's Eve parrty.
A Taxi, Police Car, Ambulance or Hearse.

NYC you don't call in at all unless its a bad trauma job and then you have dispatch give the note to the ER and or cardiac arrest or something else high level priority. If its a routine BLS job why call, cell service isn't the best in northern Westchester and the radios can be hit or miss... the thing is it needs to be turned on at the hospital to actually work. But that's something else all together. But it typical doesn't decrease the time a patient has to stay on the stretcher and get into a room in my experience, where it should.

Problem not solved, and more problems created. Again, this is lifted directly from the Fitch study that the county government commissioned in 2008.
Anyone who works in a flycar paramedic system knows that EMD in this county does nothing to appropriately manage resources. I work in three agencies that all receive direct dispatching and EMD from 60 control. The first issue is that 60 control is inadequately staffed to provide consistent EMD - anyone that gets the ipage notification on their phone knows this ( the "no EMD due to call volume / staffing" note at the end of the text), the second issue is that many of the primary PSAPs (local PDs) don't properly transfer the 911 caller to a 60 dispatcher. If that weren't bad enough, a medic gets sent on every job because the paramedic is the only resource in this county that is GUARANTEED TO SHOW UP.
I know i'm not the only one who has been stuck on scene for an hour waiting for a bus or has had to RMA patients that require ALS care because they know they can get to the hospital faster than waiting for the ambulance. All any media outlet would have to do is FOIL 60 control response time records (i'm assuming they keep some sort of log) and boy would they have a field day.
I guess the point i'm trying to make is that the problems are numerous and have metastasized across the county. I look at Putnam & Dutchess (both counties i have previously worked in) and wonder how in the hell did they get everyone on board with centralized dispatching, at least for fire and EMS.

It is the system that is broken.
Trying to fix each individual VAC is like swimming upstream. It is not going to work very well nor will it work for very long, and when you are done you will have the same problem next door. The ambulance response solution may be something akin to a County service, or regional merges and/or paid staff.
These issues have been happening for years. For most, the individual VAC's have been able to put off the issues, but as the issues gets worse, it can no longer be put off.
Many local Volunteer FD's are not far behind in facing the same manning problems.

simple the county won't step in that is half the problem with the home rule state. It takes for over to set up policy that affect every department on the ems side. look at the policy on EMDing that the county ems council came out with... they were trying to get the number of 911 answers sites down, now if its a stubbed toe and its not EMD a medic goes.

no but a change in the uniform would be nice when its above 90 black boots dark pants and dark shirts are just asking for trouble. a change to a light colored polo would be nice

why would the transport time matter if its going to bring the patient to the correct facility, when that said patient is stable. Yes when the patient is unstable and with out a good airway go to the closet place you can. And life net is also a good resource to close that time when available.
Be the patient, think if they were your mother or father or close loved one where would you want them to go when they are stable and able to make the trip... majority of our patients are stable enough to endure a 30 to 45 min transport time if it means they go to a cath lab or OR in minutes on arrival to said higher care facility.

The amount of supposition here is astounding. Not only does Transcare hold numerous 911 contracts with numerous hospitals throughout the city, it also does do interfacility transports (which anyone knows can be an emergency in itself) but no regulation or rule states that a person having a medical emergency has to call 911 and no regulation or rule states that Transcare has to call 911 for said emergency, no matter your definition of 'emergency'.
No, I do not know the reason for the vehicle, but I wouldn't be so pompous as to go on a 'public' forum and start assuming it was 'just go red lights and sirens'. How hard would it have been to pick up the phone, call Transcare and ask?

I understand your points and I am not saying its perfect. Where I was getting at was the knowledge and expertise that they can also bring. Helping the IC get a handle on what needs to be done or what resources there are out there. It is still better than 5 guys going into the building with limited haz-mat training and sending the awaiting pt's into an ambulance to be shuttled to the hospital.

its sad to seee. especially when its probably caused by a careless mistake. Groudning is key with anything to do with boats. typical marinas have gfi breakers right where the boats plug in. this being private don't know. But 9 timws out of 10 if its a fire on a boat its from improper grounding or poor house keeping in the engine room/compartment.

I personally am a fan of a traditional boat motor. Yes it has it's drawbacks (prop hitting someone) but at low speeds you have lots more control. Jet skis and boats need water flowing through the jet or you have no ability to manuver. Give me a Boston Whaler with an outboard any day.

Unit: Uh, this is Mike XXX, I’m with the XX Fire Department and I’m in Rescue XX responding for the EMS call.

So anyone who makes it past the first week of EMT or Medic training gets at the very least a cursory introduction into liability, malfeasance, misfeasance, nonfeasance, and any other feasances lurking in the courts. Police are also well informed on the pitfalls and repercussions of not doing their job properly along these lines. It has been my experience that as long as the fire goes out firefighters tend to feel they did a good enough job. Often critiques end with, "The fire went out, everyone went home, enough said." Is there a precedent for an FD being held liable for excessive damage? I'm specifically talking about malfeasance. An action that causes harm.
Anyone who's been around for a few minutes has been at that job where some idiot went around breaking windows they didn't have to or the dept that extinguished the ragging wastepaper basket fire with dual 2.5" handlines. Yes, firefighting is by nature destructive and the risk of trying to preserve a few boards of sheetrock is absolutely not worth the resulting damage from a rekindle. I bring this up after witnessing discussion between a chief and young officer where the chief was trying to explain why the clearly unnecessary hole that was cut into the gorgeous slate roof with antique copper flashing was, "An F***ing embarrassment" to the dept and his ability as a firefighter. Nothing was ever mentioned about liability. Everything was about ego and professional appearances. Not looking like a F***shop was of paramount concern.
According to the medical standard of malfeasance, since any firefighter with similar training and experience would know that a hole in the roof of a 2 story home experiencing a small, self vented, room and contents fire is unnecessary and did not serve to assist in firefighting operations by the time he began operating on the roof this firefighter and by extension his dept could be liable.
