    1) Yes it would, but a consolidated system needs to include all e911 not just fire/ems. If the cops are not on board, then this will never work properly. And the cops are the ones who set up the e911 system to protect their little fiefdoms.
    2) Before we set up our radio system, we met with the county to discus the "proposed" trunk system. We were told the trunk system as designed would a) not cover 100% of our district and unless additional tower licenses were obtained, it would never work properly in the southern part of the county and It was not designed for the day to day use that our department needs of its radio system. So we built our own and for our purpose, ours is vastly superior.

As I mentioned in another thread, why is the radio communication system in Westchester County is over-complex? I understand that there are a lot of cities and jurisdictions that want things to work the way they want, but it seems to me that everything here is a bit overboard when it comes to the radio/dispatch systems.
The first big thing I'd like to focus on is the need for TWO SEPARATE RADIO SYSTEMS. Why? We get dispatched low band, respond and talk from car to car via trunk, and operate on fire ground low band channels. Can we not find a way to use the trunk system to dispatch? Can we not use the ground ops channels instead of FG1 through 8?
And why do so many departments choose not to be dispatched by 60 Control? Wouldn't a consolidated e911 system work for us?
The way I see it is that the trunk system has all of the technology to do what we need it to do, which is COMMUNICATE (albeit I don't know if you can be dispatched on it....refer to the question above). I just find it ridiculous that the radio communication system for Westchester County is incredibly complex. I'd really love some good answers on this, because this has been boggling my mind for almost seven years now.

    Love all the "toys".......
Now can we get some functional front line apparatus that spends more time in service than out?

They just had a piece on the national news or one of the Sunday morning shows about JetBlue recruiting retired first responders and interviewed an FDNY retiree. It was a decent piece and highlighted the "family work team style". Regardless of that, we fly a bit and have had more positive flights with JetBlue than any other carrier and their helping fly LEO's to NYC makes it even more likely that we'll seek JetBlue for any trip rather than the lowest fare.

i was in the Jet Blue Terminal on Saturday night. Strange seeing a bunch of police in different uniforms there. I always liked Jet Blue. Now I like them even more.

    Just to add on here:
JetBlue has been pretty supportive of the FDNY/NYPD community in general. Aside from that awesome custom painted plane....they hire a lot of current and former members as crew aboard their aircraft and on the ground. They've got a good family/team atmosphere, supposedly.

Silly rabbit, DeBlasio does not appoint the important spots in the city, his wife does!

Read on Internet that NYPD has experienced problems with lug nuts removed or loosened on parked radio cars and ever parked MOS private vehicles parked near their Command. Something to watch out for.

Today in New Rochelle the " I Can't Breath" rally and march was postponed. I'll tell you can't breath---Those two cops in Brooklyn

The question remains, can NYC survive for three more years under this administration ???

President Carter and Mayor Dinkins can now rest easy knowing that 2 bigger tools have taken the heat off of them for being the worst leaders in the history of the US and NYC. President Obama and Mayor DeBlasio are top of my tool list!!!

They are simply following the leaders they have. Mayor Douche bag turned his back on them and now it's time to reap the seeds the Mayor has sowed. All the years of blood and sweat the NYPD put in under the greatest Mayor of all time is for naught. Good job a$$hole!!!

We do in the City and it is strictly enforced. No RLS for odors of gas or alarms ringing for 2nd and 3rd due units. Same holds true for automatic alarms and street pull boxes with no contact.
This used to include Manhole emergencies (excluding fire) and, I believe, water conditions (in a building). However, I believe, they were part of some changes. Water does a lot of damage in a short time and you never REALLY know what troubles a manhole emergency could pose.
There might be some more as far as specifics go, but I'm not sure myself.
All this aside.....regulations are only part of the battle. Being able to temper a response using your own judgement is irreplaceable. If you've been doing this long enough, you know what when you can use the siren and lights, but very judiciously and come to a crawl at an intersection, ect....
....and you should know when it's time to step it up a little. Reports of people trapped above a fire, in the apartment or perhaps smoke visible in the air. Could be reports of an unconscious infant or civilian CPR in progress.
    Use your head....

Rescue 1 had a lot of issues with their rig. Of what I'm hearing the KMEs are holding up pretty well. Our spec is written down to what nut and bolt is used literally it's that precise and detailed. We expect our rigs to perform to a certain level and if it can't we can't have any confidence in it to do it's job and get us there. And right now a majority of the companies that have Ferraras don't have that much confidence in their rigs

M'Ave.... Thanks for the response. Good to hear the KME's are working out. I believe alot of readers don't understand how specialized and custom an FDNY rig is. It's not an off the shelf order that so many depts can have and work well for them. Anyway... May the Seagraves, Ferrara and KME keep FDNY safe and get the job done.
