Speaking on "Suburban Firefighting," Chief Jim Silvernail of the City of Kirkwood, Missouri Fire Dept, captivated the audience of approximately 400 firefighters, at yesterday's 17th Annual Lt. Andy Fredericks.

Our thanks to all those firefighters who attended and especially those who regularly support our seminar, as well as Chief Silvernail for a great presentation.

Proceeds of each seminar are given to four designated charities: the Lt. Andy Fredericks Scholarship Fund, the Lt. Tyler Rush Scholarship Fund, the New York State Firemen's Home and Burncare Everywhere.

Andy's company, FDNY Squad Co. 18, was on hand, as always, to sell T-shirts and support the cause.

Also in attendance was FDNY Battalion 19, Engine Co. 75 and Ladder Co. 33 to sell memorial T-shirts for Deputy Chief Michael Fahy, recently killed in the line of duty; proceeds going to Chief Fahy's family.

    Great job done by all!!!

From the Elmsford Chiefs and the Seminar Committee....

This is pretty old info being rehashed.  There is no official discussion of any changes.......THANKFULLY.  Our structure and staffing, on both the fire and ems side, are our greatest asset

Where is Mayor Spano's promise to have Architect Drawings, Final Designs and a Site Selected by October of 2015? Hmmm? We are now looking at February 2017, and nothing on any account.and ZERO updates to the community by either Mayor Spano or anyone from his Administration on the status. Poor Communication and Management on the part of the Mayor of the City of Yonkers

Reviewing my photos the other day regarding the blacked out NYS Mack Granite that I posted to this group, I noticed the truck behind it was one of the older Internationals. Sorry for the crappy shot, but it's better then nothing.

I did some reading up on this article, and I'm curious as to why Philadelphia FD is not held liable in this lawsuit  (although maybe it is a separate lawsuit....her family has been requesting criminal charges against the FD). Maybe because they don't have as deep of pockets as the manufacturers as aforementioned in the thread. The NIOSH report is not yet out, but here are some snippets I found in articles from reputable online sources and Philadelphia FD quotes strongly suggesting the Air-Pak may not have been the issue:

-An inexperienced ladder crew took 18 minutes to respond. Ladder 8’s late arrival delayed the start of much needed ventilation. Receipt of the LODD Report may have shed light on the impact that the “Firefighter Rotation Policy” had on Ladder 8’s response time to the specific fire at 1655 Middleton Street.  Nevertheless, a review of Ladder 8’s roster showed that firefighters on duty that morning may have been unfamiliar with the community and their first alarm district.
-The team with whom Craig entered the rowhouse got separated, leaving her alone inside after they were overcome by smoke and heat and ordered to withdraw.
-The blaze that killed Craig was the sort firefighters dread: a basement blaze in tight quarters with paneled walls (paneling burns fast and hot).
-As other firefighters have said, Craig was pulled from the house 17 minutes after her first Mayday alarm sounded, when firefighters found her by chance.
-Bright said she's unsure why her mask collapsed. She thinks, in hindsight, that she should have opened her air bottle more.
-Meanwhile, a radio dispatcher had spent several minutes trying to ascertain Craig's status.
"Any information on the emergency button?" he asked around 3:06 a.m., according to the dispatch transcripts.
"Still waiting on an explanation of the Mayday button," he said again over the radio at 3:08, the transcripts show.
-Craig was found slumped near a window in the home's kitchen, sitting on the coiled-up hose.
-In an interview last week, Craig's coworker Nyree Bright described a chaotic and confusing fire scene in which Craig's Mayday alarm went unheeded, and those who could have rescued her were not told she was missing.
-Deputy Chief Rich Davison, the author of the incident review report, wrote that Deputy Commissioner Jesse Wilson - the department's second-in-command - had asked for redactions and explained his request with the suggestion that "some statements in the critique could hurt the city," according to a copy of the entry obtained by The Inquirer.

It's terrible. Horrible...and tragic the outcome of this fire and RIP to FF Craig, but go after the manufacturers seems kind of moot.  When you have a cluster of an incident such as this, no material equipment in the world is going to save you nor is it designed to if used improperly.

    I think others have answered.
But this has been put out as a "Competitive Bid". The moment you put one manufactures name on it, its no longer competitive, since none of the other venders will put the time & $$$ ($10,000 - $20,000 per bid) to put something together. The customer has stated "or equal" and they get to determine after the fact what that is.
NYS law requires competitive bidding for purchases over $500.
Their are exemptions. For example if their is a pierce quantum demo unit they saw and want they can go back to the village board (City council, Board of fire commish. etc.) And if the elected oversight board agrees that a sole source no bid is in the best interest of the tax payer they can authorize it.
These are usually done because of a very good price, immediate delivery date, or as an emergency purchase (a wall fell on the rig & its gone and we cant wait for a replacement to be built.
  20. FDNY 10-75 liked a post in a topic by x635 in Round Rock FD New Truck 7
Round Rock FD, Texas Truck 7 company used to be my first due where I lived in TX.  Round Rock is a fast growing suburb of Austin. They have 8 stations, and are opening two new fire stations this year, as well as just breaking ground on a comprehensive public safety training center. It is an all-career department now, but was a strong volunteer department until about 1985 (there are still two volunteer departments in the city, Jollyville and Sam Bass, whose districts encompass a MUD district). At one time, they were a large mostly Seagrave department, until Seagrave stopped selling in TX. Now, their fleet is comprised almost entirely of Pierce.

This is their new 100' aluminum platform built on a Dash CF chassis. 300 gallons of water with a PUC 1500 GPM pump.

The pump is a secondary feature of this truck, and runs with an Engine, both fully staffed. This truck's first due is the north Round Rock area, which encompasses 2 major hospitals, several college campuses, public and private schools, and medical facilities, numerous apartment complexes, residential developments, an outlet mall, Bass Pro shops and other major retail centers, as well as a busy portion of I-35...and that's just the part of the city that's in their first due. A lot of the structures are light weight construction. To give you an idea of how fast this area has grown, when I moved to Texas in 2008, this station had just opened with an Engine and a Tanker, and NONE of the above buildings, except for cow pastures and the residential area in which I lived.

Westchester (and im pretty sure dutchess co also) has all of those resources, and the manpower. Putnam county barely has enough to cover routine calls, but yes all good ideas, for sure. I'm not sure how man runs the Haz mat team takes in but I'm sure it's less than 10 a year. They'd be better off just spending the money on more paid EMS services to supplement (and inevitably take over) the volunteer ambulances.

Eliminated. Why? Look at that mileage . Lol not a smart resource for 1 department. Would be smarter for a county (or several departments to share) to purchase and have it be special called by a department when needed. In areas with poor water sources it can be a great resource but it is A Very specific piece of specialty equipment.
