  1. Well just do the time stuff in your head. Figure how long it takes to do things and then input it into the fire time line. It was flat out scary. No urgency to put the fire out. Just kinda milling about yard breathing for no real reason. No real size up per say, lots of tunnel vision. Chief can't see the whole picture if your on the roof cutting things. Guy with that cig on the hydrant is priceless. The "hey guys look how big it's getting" stares from then front lawn crew is priceless. Now at (5:56) wouldn't any other real crew get some big water and try and make a attack or protect the exposures? (8:37) Priceless (9:25) if only I had something to pull this with, hmmm
  2. pics are password protected. Anyone have the password who can share it?
  3. I agree. Think what he meant was that firefighting comes first, then all the other things. We are Brothers on the Line first and foremost. A lot of volunteer Departments have a way of filling the ranks with non-responders. How many combo or all volunteer departments can say their manpower is fully trained and at the top of their game? Now in the career site you have in service training, kitchen table chat, etc. We as career guys are always learning from the old salty dogs to the probie with the tags still on his gear. As for politics in Westchester, that never happens How many times have departments been passed over cause this guys didn't like that one's department. This is getting old and while consolidation is an option, who is gonna be the one to pull the trigger and make it happen? everyone is so concerned with their reelection bid or popularity votes that they are not gonna risk it. How many studies have there been? I mean they spend money trying to figure out what anyone could tell you, the system don't work. It's gonna take someone with a real set to say the crap ends now.
  4. Umm those are just two criminals
  5. Some great shots from back in the day.
  6. Was there a national order to fly them half staff? I know I did just out of respect. It was so long ago that I don't remember. I do agree though if you see a place flying it half staffed you should just drive on by.
  7. Stop bothering with this crap. Focus on making it legal. You still get to arrest people for driving under the influence, you still get to have your rehab clinics. Its just like alcohol(sorta). As someone who has no real use for weed, synthetic or real, i think we have bigger fish to fry these days. People will always find some other way to get high. Anyone know why whipped cream in a bottle is not illegal yet? I mean any 10 yo can buy that stuff.
  8. That was the most disturbing thing I have have ever seen in my life.( and we are all firemen/EMT/Police on this site so we have seen some things) Needs to be on at every commercial break during the Super Bowl. Screw those other dumb a** commercials, this is the "Real" world. Show it to high school kids. or is it too "Harsh" for their fragile little minds How about some responsibility folks. I mean it is just brutal in your face reality. Not Jersey shore crap, not some dumb bachelorette crap. I mean I am still kinda being effected by it and its been off my screen for about 5 mins.
  9. While responding to a border call which we share with another department. "60 Control to Eng** Would you like (other departments name here) to respond as well" "They can come if they want too" Had me laughing at 2AM
  10. What could happen, the fish get a fourth eye?
  11. Did anyone get any photos from the fire? I saw a lot of guys with cameras there. Checked NYCfire.net, but it was not him. Great job done by everyone. All the departments worked well together and got a very stubborn fire to go out. It's amazing no one was hurt. As a side note: Kinda funny how this call didn't get a Incident Alert but people post MVA's .
  12. And while we all talk about this, another deadly bus accident in NJ. Guess it happens more then we all think. Link to story
  13. Funny stuff. Anyone know where the actual firehouses are up in NH? I know a few people who are up there and i think i recognize that house. Lenny Clark was funny as the resident. "do you have a hose?" No it's on the truck. How about a fire extinguisher? no do you have one in the house? I was laughing really loud and the wife was looking at me funny. Well done.
  14. The were on scene and they were there while fire activity was going on. They showed the very end when nothing was going on. As for PIO, I am sure they had access to the proper people. It was in fact a slow news day. The Yonkers car accident that morning was nothing more then a car upside down on it's roof. I am sure the public sees that a few times a week on the highways and what not. A house on fire not so often. Which would be more "spectacular"? A car on it's roof or a house on fire? The house fire 9 times out of ten. Now this goes back to the original issue. When those guys made the rescues that should have been in the paper. Less Trash, More Class. I know the trashy stuff sells papers , but when something is actually new worthy PRINT IT!!
  15. I have to agree that the News outlets just are too lazy to get the info. As stated they listen to scanners and just give what they hear. One example would be News 12's coverage of the Pelham Manor fire on Wed morning. If you look at the IA report there were: PMFD 2 Engines 1 Ladder 1 Chief, FDNY 5 engines 3 Ladders 1 Rescue 1 RAC Unit 2 FDNY Chiefs Pelham 1 Engine 1 Chief New Rochelle 1 Engine 1 Ladder So that's 15 apparatus on scene. News 12 had a 15 second little clip showing almost nothing on the morning edition, but covered a small White Plains fire with "Top of the Hour" coverage. The White Plains fire was under control, as per there chief, in about 30 minutes (good stop guys) but the Pelham fire was going on for 2 1/2 hours. News papers are worse with just recycling a story that someone else wrote. No much hitting the pavement anymore. These guys who saved the children should get some recognition, they deserve it.
  16. I was saddened to hear of the passing of Brother Bruce Kerr. While I only knew him for a short time from when I was in the training academy, he will be missed. Rest in peace brother and may God watch over your family in this sad time.
  17. The kid in the front seat is not wearing a seat belt? Or that whole "whats the worst that can happen" thing going on up top on the ladder.
  18. How can these Parent companies even think they are gonna make money with all their channels having the same format? "Hey we have a 95% share of the male 16-35 demographic here on WXYZ, why not add another station that will play the same thing as them." If you try and cover more the one type of music you get more listeners, more listeners means more ad space which means, you guessed it MORE MONEY FOR YOU!!! Hey are there any good country stations here in NYC area? Nope. A small station that played country would become a larger station when all the people who want the country find it. Leave the classic rock alone, leave the rap and "beats of ny" for other people.
  19. Was listening to the radio most of the day today and Mount Vernon seemed to be at the Vacant house fire all day. Any updates on this?
  20. You all realize that the videos are all a joke right? It is the guy just pretending to be "harassed". If he was so afraid of them why does he walk up to the trucks and also who walks around with a camera and films fire trucks (other then you Buffs). Plus it is in the city and in Brooklyn, he is more a loser then a nut case.
  21. I have to agree that the prices are high but so is everything else in this world. I am going to the game to see guys play ball and just feel like a kid again. I been to many games and have done some crazy things to get to them. I once drove from Westchester to New Hampshire picked up my Brother and then drove back to make a World Series game. Didn't even have tickets just said "lets go to the ballgame". The yankee's are as Yogi said in the heart. Even in the new stadium you will remember having a dog in the bleaches and that aw inspiring feeling you get when you walk out the tunnel and see the Sea of Green in front of you. Take the old stadium for what it is, the home of great memories. They can tear it down but the memories will always stay. Tell your kids about the time Arron Boone Jacked one against the Sox, or how Jeter dove head first for that ball, and let them know who Mr. October was. I will be miss my old friend but i am sure that we will meet again someday in a better place. Yankees In 2009!!!!
  22. Ya pretty sure you are not gonna be popping those to quickly if you needed to get out fast. We don't have them around here yet but i am sure we will run into them eventually. Take a look at the pics here. you can basically see day light if you were trying to get out them BAM you are not just gonna pop that out. Hopefully someone figures out a technique for speeding up the removal when we are on scene. Stay safe
  23. well said ALS I think that part of the issue is where we all are in the country. The metro area is a busy, go go kind of area. someone is always running off to somewhere. Got to take the son to baseball, the daughter to softball, then gotta go get groceries, then need to hit the bank, and so on. Has anyone been out west or even the south? it is a little more laid back and not everyone is in a rush to cram a million things into the day. I will agree that kids just don't get it because parents cant discipline their kids anymore. suddenly your a bad parent for wrapping your kid on the cheek for cursing. Anyone every been hit with a wooden spoon for doing something bad when they were kids? Maybe had your mouth washed out with soap? That stuff does not exist anymore. no one wants to take care of their kids. It has been passed down from parent to child for decades. and each time they get a little farther from WE and closer to ME. i don't really get kids anymore just like my elders most likely didn't get my generation. This problem can never be fixed. i now you should never say never but it is the hard cold truth. You can never go back. things might improve but once people have been exposed to TV, Video games, Movies, greed, there is no coming back. I wish i had a Porsche and was marrying a supermodel and had more money then anyone could ever count but in the end i know that i would be unhappy at the end of the day. Kids today don't see it that way. they want to quick buck and not have to work for it.
  24. Have you not seen "I robot" It will not work in anyway. As said maybe a tool the firefighters could use but not replace us. Robots don't think and can not make split second choices. they will not remember that there is a window one room back that can be bailed out of. Or more importantly they have no concept of self preservation. They will just plunk away in 1000 degree heat and say when it has surpassed livable conditions, must stop search and start suppression. How about they work on a robot that packs hose or fills bottles? That would be great! he could also have a water cooler inside so we would always be hydrated.
  25. Here is a video from a news broadcast. they explain New and old construction some what well.
