Can you provide any more details than that? When what where and why?

    Yup. Well done.
I bout spit out my coffee at one part though. THREE radios? He has to carry THREE radios? And calls come from any one of those? WHAT. THE. F$&*??!!
Is this 1980? I live up in cow Hampshire. Bout as rural as you can get. My state issued radio can talk to EVERY dispatch center. All of em. All of our 911 calls are answered in one of two places. Then dropped down to local dispatch centers who tone out crews. There's no WONDERING if I should go on a call. If the voice in the ceiling says go, I go.
You folks need to stop accepting your status quo. Step up and lead. Be that guy. How is it possibly better and more efficient to have to carry THREE radios? Do they do this in NEW YORK CITY? Anywhere?
    Rant over. Carry on.

Just rely on Mutual Aid like many other Depts.! After all aren't we there to help each other out? That's the "Brotherly" thing to do these days right? Jump on a rig and play in each others sandboxes no big deal!

What VAC's have been brought back after being shut down?
I'd be more upset that my loved one may not get an ambulance because of hurt feelings when a professional agency is ready and able to do it. Chester VAC was billing too, this isn't about the billing.

You'd also be pretty upset when an ambulance doesn't show up at your emergency...

I'm not sure the intent for this bill was for the firefighter taking a month off.
I think it was created to protect the firefighter who takes a day or two off if the community he serves in is hit with a major emergency situation.

It's a two way street (not the one in the video), fire trucks don't park in front of a house being burlarized, and police shouldn't be parked in front of a fire. Sometimes you have to do a little damage to get the job done. I recall a fire upstate where a fire broke out in a house literally 3 doors down from the firedepartment/police department building. A rookie police officer left his cruiser in front of one of the fire bays (and ran towards the fire!), and the driver of that first due engine just pushed the cruiser SIDEWAYS across the street. Was it the right thing to do? It probably wasn't the best judgement call, but given the situation I would do the same thing. After all, there's a reason the insurance companies exist.
However, since the officer in the video happened to be right there he could have just moved the car.

The bigger problem is the old homes that have had additions. You think its well built and it is, except that new addition.
And we expect the property owner will advise us....The property owner cant even figure out what jurisdiction he lives in, but he is going to know that he has got truss construction. Another feel good bill.

I have been to the gift shop at The Apartheid Museum in South Africa, Pearl Harbor, and the Holocaust Museum in DC. They usually need them to support operations at the museums.

Sadly, it appears another new "trend" is coming out of our technology boom. It appears that a funeral is now becoming a "look at me event". Reportedly, many uniformed firefighters were taking cellphone pics throughout the processional and such. Many don't seem to understand that taking pictures for their Facebook page makes a solemn day of remembrance appear to be about the wrong people. What could and should be a large silent presence to honor the fallen and show the family, FD and community that we are one in brotherhood appears to be just another excuse to get out of town a drink and show off their hero costumes. Disgraceful. Too bad only those of us on the inside readily see the difference between those in uniform and those in hero costumes.

I, along with 25 of my Brothers spent 2 days paying our respect to Lt Walsh and FF Kennedy. I have to tell you that there needs to be a class on proper etiquette taught to the younger generation of firefighters. I can't tell you how many members I saw carrying cases of beer on their shoulders walking the streets where our Brother was being celebrated. Guys just walking by the church with 24 on their shoulder. I don't really know if they were career or volley and don't really care who they are affiliated with but their actions disgusted me as well as other New Rochelle Firefighters. If you want to have a few beers between the service and the last drive past the sea of blue please go to a bar. If you want to tailgate and party in front of the civilians like morons please go to a football or baseball game. In front of the church and on peoples lawns is not the place!!!!

More wasted taxpayer dollars. This is why they keep closing firehouses and reducing crew sizes. If we keep entertaining this garbage NYC is going to become Detroit.

This makes me want to puke. It's no longer about who is better suited for the position, it's a numbers game. I work in NYC and I'm buying an extinguisher, a water can, a bailout bag, and a AV-3000 with an escape canister just in case a truck full of these know-nothing cry-babies shows up in front of my office building for a working fire.

I have to give Nickcv41 credit for progressive thinking. On the same subject, I agree that a department would need ample manpower to staff their own FAST but just a quick question for those in the better know, wouldn't it be better for a department to have their own FAST operating on the fireground while waiting for the mutual aid FAST to arrive then have that FAST either relieve the department FAST or go to work? We see alot of times a delay in getting the other department FAST out which means working the job without FAST in place.

Yes, as many people have said before, if it gets to the point that your shirt/pants are melting to your skin, you've got much bigger problems. No question. However, it then becomes the difference of a cotton shirt burning and flaking off, or doctors having to peel and cut out the polyester from your skin, making an already terrible situation that much worse. Food for thought.
