Introduce Yourself!

325 posts in this topic

Well hello all, after about a month here, I figger now is a good time to come out and say, ALOHA!

My name is Joe, I have been a Fire Buff all my life, and am working on joining the local volunteers back in Connecticut.

I've been visting EMTBravo since 2005-ish, and just had my first set of photos posted!

If anyone is wondering, 10-Buff-4 means this: "10" as in Department 10 on 44-Control's Band, "Buff" Because that's what I am, and "4" in honor of FDNY Rescue 4, where I have been buffing since 2002 (and am now writing the history of in honor of their 75th Anniversary).

This is a great site and I'm glad to be a part of it and that my photos got posted!

Like our Webmaster, I too like trains and may send some in. wink.gif I actually rode the train to Florida once!

I think I may get verification soon.

I just want to keep feelin things out. Although, I think the Board likes me so far and I haven't stepped on any toes.

Take Care and Stay Safe all, see you at the Fire!

-Joe DA BUFF

been here for a few months now. Names Scott have been invlolved in the fire service all of my life. From Mt. Vernon but move to florida when I was young. My dad has been on the job for 30+'s years in the vern along with my Grandfather who was the volunteer chief many years ago. My dad moved back to florida to get back on the job but i stayed in florida where in 2003 became involved with the explorers. Rose through the ranks to chief in 2005 but moved out here to Orlando in june to attend the University of Central florida to get a degree before getting into the fire service. I am a certified nursing assistant and a First Responder. Also took the firefighter I class but was too young to get the certificate. I spend my summers in Mt Vernon riding out with the department and rest of the time in fla. I cant wait for school to be over and finally do the job I have been wanting since i could talk!! Hopefully moving back to New York to get on the job up there in a few years.

Hi to everyone. My name is? I can't say. This is what happens when you work for a state facility. So i have to be careful. EMT since 1973 in NJ. Professional EMT for 27 years. Assigned to a HEAVY RESCUE unit. More than 3000 runs a year for a non firefighting rescue unit. Looking for retirement soon. Love the job. But hate the politics. Lousy pay and benefits. No respect for EMS in my lfetime. EMS needs to be a third service. That's enough crying. Yes Seth i finally became verified. P.S. come ride with us AGAIN. Maybe you can finally get the pictures you want.

Hi. My name is Phil. I feel compelled to introduce myself for several reasons. First, I have finally gotten around to getting verified--it took me a couple of years. Second, and the real reason I feel it important to say hello is that I have been one of the "lurkers" out in the mist: reading and enjoying the site very much, but offering nothing in the way of actual participation.

My EMS and Firefighting careers are behind me now--I am a traditional Shipwright and work in San Francisco for the National Park Service building and restoring historic wooden ships and other vessels.

I ran into EMT Bravo because, having left the EMS business some 15 years ago after twenty years of focussed involvement, I have remained very interested in all things emergency and was searching for info on some of my past departments.

I started in Westport CT as a vol. FF in the early mid-70's, did the explorer thing in Norwalk, volunteered with Stamford Ambulance Corps all through high school and beyond. I worked as a Medic for NYC*EMS for almost all of the 80's (Gouveneur, Cony, Liberty Outpost in East NY Brooklyn, Jacoby, Lutheran Medical Center), Did 3 years with Stamford EMS Foundation (fly car days), went West to Monterey Calif, and killed off my career in Klamath Falls Oregon.

I suppose I have "lurked" because I have no current information to share, but read with great interest where the emergency services have gone since I left. My first EMT Bravo name was "bell horse."

That's because I am like an old fire horse jumping at the bell. My wife can't figure out how I know which SFFD apparatus are screaming by our house soley by their sound.

It just doesn't go away.

A BIG thank you to Seth for creating a place where some of us Ex-types can still keep a toe in the water.

Anyway, just wanted to let you know one "lurkers" perspective. I visit daily because EMT Bravo and all of the men and women who contribute to the site and forum feel like distant cousins in whom I still have a vested interest.

I'd like to stick around--perhaps coming in from the mist on the off chance that I have something relevent to add to the discussion. Until then, as is so often and so appropriately written here:

Be safe.

Phil

Hello! My name is Louis I'm a Volunteer Fire Fighter, and a member of my Volunteer Ambulance Corps. I've been a member of both agencies for about 11 years. I'm EMT-B certified, and also NIMS compliant. I also Volunteer for the American Red Cross as a DAT member. We get dispatched on any fire or a natural disaster, or any other where victims would need our assistance in either sheltering or food and clothing, it could be local in Westchester or far away like San Diego or New Orleans. The Red Cross also helps emergency responders with beverages, blankets, or food. In my opinion The American Red Cross Is a challenge, but a great challenge. I suggest if you have the time to Volunteer with the Red Cross, do it. I was at the White Plains fire on 12/1 where 11 apartments and 42 clients were effected. Just to help a person or family in need, when they lost everything and you get a hug or a thank you at the end is a great feeling. It's hard work but when you go home you really feel good inside. That you made a difference and a new start fro someone who lost everything. I wish everbody a happy and healthy holiday.

Hi,

My name is Mike and I'm an Ex-Chief from Golden's Bridge and I was an active member from 1976-2004 when I moved to Hopewell Junction. I am also on the New York City Department of Environmental Protection Hazardous Materials Team where I'm employed as a Hazardous Materials/WMD Specialist. My team is also tasked as the confined space rescue team for the entire Bureau of Water Supply. Each team member has over 120 hours of rope rescue training. We perform several confined rescue standbys per month and train frequently.

I miss being active every time my adoptive town (East Fishkill) has a call and goes by my house. They are a top notch department.
