    I thought for sure this one would have been brought up already and was shocked to see it not mentioned;
    I loved the one where the woman called 911 because they got her order wrong at the drive through and she kept arguing with the dispatcher that it's wrong they couldnt get her order right and she is a busy mother who needed to get dinner for her kids while on their way to soccer and they got the order wrong and she wants a police officer to take a report and the dispatcher actually got mad and told her 911 is for emergencies, she isnt going to send a unit over because her burgers were wrong...classic call that I thought everyone would remember!! The woman refused to enter the restaurant to complain and get another burger to replace it but she would sit in the parking lot on the phone with 911 for an hour trying to get PD to respond and "Issue Justice" for her burgers...LOL

    Many years ago, (before E911 and ALS) the police (in a neighboring community) dispatched an ambulance and the FD on a report of possible cyanide poising. The ambulance dispatcher alerted the hospital and was on the phone to poison control and kept an open line to both during the response. Upon arrival People were calmly walking around and could not understand why half the town turned out.
    It turns out that Mr. Cynides had a laceration to his mouth and wanted transportation to the ER in case he needed stiches. I pity the dispatcher that had to tell poison control “uh never mind”.

    Even though he may have been 'emotionally disturbed' up to that point in time. I'll assume he knew right from wrong. As soon as he pointed that weapon at the P.O./Trooper he became a common criminal. And was rightfully dispatched.

    We used to have a little old lady who would regularly call 9-1-1 to report that "someone" had turned off the power to her house. She was a repeat customer, so we knew that she liked to plug in space heaters heat lamps, hair dryers, and all the lights in the house. The breaker would trip, and she'd call in a prowler call.
    Due to her age and mental state, we'd just roll to her house, reset her breaker, and assure her that we'd keep an eye on the neighborhood and keep the prowler at bay.
    Of course, we also have our share of prank 9-1-1 calls, calls made by drunks and druggies, and kids playing with the phone. After their kids had called 9-1-1 and hung up on four different occasions, resulting in four "unknown trouble" dispatches, I had to threaten to arrest the parents if it happened again. Oddly, it stopped.

    I believe they use buses like this out in Jersey with the UASI program. I think both Newark and Jersey City have similar ones.

    I amazed at this question because it always comes up and the majority of people who ask it think that Travon should not have acted differently.. Nothing is wrong with ask who you do not reconize who are you and what are you doing here. Heck I do it all the time. All Travon had to do was ask Zimmerman why he was following him.If he truly felt threatened he could have called 911 or continue running. Instead he decided to come back and attack Zimmerman.

    Was self defense by GZ needed? -If my face was being bashed into the ground and I thought I would die then yes.
    Every American has the right to defend their lives, but provoking a confrontation this was not going to end well. -So what if he did "provoke" it he was still attacked.
    I believe in the right to bear arms, but only buy people that need it, and have a extensive back ground check. - How do you define people that need it? Is being able to defend your life or your families a need?
    I'm sorry to say but this topic is going to become racist and not about the Dispatcher/Zimmerman situation. - Why does it have to become racist? Facts can be discussed without the issue of race by some.
    I own a gun for work and I'm always thinking about " what if I have to pull it out, and against who, and if I do and fire it how will I feel knowing that what I did was justified in the legal system or by God. - There is a saying that I would rather be judged by 12 then carried by 6... Seemed to work out for Zimmerman

    Despite what the media, Al Sharpton and Eric Holder keep saying, Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law had nothing to do with this case, it wasn't even invoked. Zimmerman's attorneys argued was simple self-defense, a right that every American in the entire country has.

    A seasoned cop will stay upwind. A seasoned FF or EMT will remained staged until the PD advises differently, even if they see a pt being loaded into a bus. I'm not getting payed to smell like smoke for the next month or become another rescue in a fire. And the FF/EMT isn't getting payed a stipend per pt. (maybe some are for all I know) As a FF/EMT if you are told to stage in a safe location until the PD renders it safe, what's the big deal-it's for a reason. If you choose to enter that location for an EDP perhaps and you wind up getting hurt or even worse, hurting someone. You may wind up having much answering to do. Either criminal or civil. I know way too many guys that wished they would have followed protocol or used their head. I hate to say it, but its us verse them/it, not each other. stay safe

    Agreed 100% with everything you have said except about PL custom. Every PL custom I have served in has been worse than the one before it. It is not a spec issue, its a shoddy workmanship and wiring issue. Maybe that is why their customer service is so good, they spend so much time running around repairing the ones that break.
    Road Rescue, Braun and Osage, Osage especially, are some of the best ambulances I have ever served on. The Osage we have at work is a bulletproof tank that despite being over 4 years old is essentially like new (minus a few scrapes) and its out of service time we have been able to count in tens of hours, not days. I will note that we rotate our ambulances so no ambulance receives too many hours, miles or calls.

    Please DO NOT buy a 4 wheel drive unit. Your area is pretty flat, (hell, one area in Mamaroneck is called 'the flats!'), and your PD and FD have about, what, 6 4 WD SUV's you can use in the rare heavy snow incident that your DPW has not cleared. It will be $7000, plus way more wear on front end, brakes, tranny every time you start and stop. I know you do not pay for maintnence, but it will be your down time. If you can document 4 incidents of stuck ambulances in MEM's 40+ year Hx, I would be surprised. (Yea, I know it was MFD Rescue for some of those years.)
    Are you allowed to count trade in $$$ from your old truck, or is the Amb Dist/Town laying claim to that money. You may get $10 to $20,000 trade value on your old unit.
    You do NOT need a HUGE model. Don't get box envy with the neighbors. Better a real good small truck than a stripped big one. Small trucks= easier to train drivers, less intimidating to the soccer moms that squads should be courting= more drivers, fewer dings, smaller blind spots, shorter stopping distance.
    Gas versus diesel, eh. Both have good and bad. Chevy VS Ford, same deal. All being =, go with the cheapest.
    As for modifier, I don't think PL custombody can be beat in customer service. My vol squad (Somers) and the squad I work at a lot (Yorktown) has had good customer service, etc. BTW If Somers and Yorktown, in the NW Hills don't get 4WD, you don't need it either.

    According to an NYPD ESU Commander whose name I forgot, they are the new TSU's which carry jumper down equipment, such as nets, airbags, and retrieval boats. One for each borough.

    Your selective quoting does nothing to bolster your point. If you actually read the thread you would be able to see that I was "a little more OK" with a plan that prevented the southern states from buying more population to ensure control of the United States House of Representatives than I was of a court decision to allow a march by a group that advocates the overthrough of our government through a suburban community, which in my opinion was only a ploy to draw attention to their permit fight in Chicago. So yes I will stand by that. I know you want to make the 3/5's rule all about racism, but that just was not the fact, it was about equal representation under the law, which it did it's best under the socioeconomic environment of the time to accomplish. For those of us living in the northeast (the area most of EMTBravo's members are in) it is the only reason that our votes even count when we elect our congress. For the record I am also OK with the Kansas Nebaska compromise which ensured that the number of states with legalized slavery did not overwhelm the number of states that did not have it. If you though ending slavery was the right thing to do, imagine if the congress responsible for sending the amendment to the states had been influenced by counting slaves in the majority of states as voting population, in which case the 13th amendment never would have made it off the house floor.
    I have already said that I do not agree with what WBC does, not how they do it. In Connecticut our state governemnt passed a law controlling while allowing protests at funerals. I believe but am not certain that this law was passed before WBC ever came to Connecticut and it does not single them out but places the same restrictions on anyone who chooses to protest at a funeral. It also does not specify military funderals, as was their original strategy. Thus it gives equal protection under the law.
    To the best of my knowledge the WBC has never butally attacked anyone, they stand outside with their viscious signs and spew their unwelcome words but contrary to what Justice Alito said, they never attacked any person. There is also no such thing as verbal assault, as assault requires a physical act. It is kind of like my mother used to tell me when I was a kid, sticks and stones may break your bones, but words will never hurt you.
    The WBC has a hard uphill journey to make anyone side with their arguments but the idea that the West Webster Firefighters were fighting for idol worship is so laughable as to basically roll off my mind without even needing a reply. Since they claim that this is the status of the U.S. government to justify their protests of military fiunerals they really are just reaching for media attention when they apply that to non government volunteer firefighters or schoolchildren. But I said as much before.
    As for invoking the KKK, well they generally hate anyone who isn't them, and as such they have few if any allies. As a matter of fact they often hate each other and as such are an extremely fragmented movement made up of not one organization but a whole lot of smaller similar but hardly friendly organizations (Many years ago I did a report on them for history class, so some things may have changed). However I am confused by invoking them against the WBC, what would the status be of a hate group that hates other hate groups? Should there be a new designation of double hate greoup? Or are they no longer a hate group because now they hate the right people? I personally wouldn't be throwing my lot in with them.
    I do not think it is too bad we can't do what Britan does, you see starting around 1775 we fought a war so that we did not have to be British subjects any more. we started that effort with a doccument that contains the words:
    We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
    So if you want to be just like England, well take down that American flag, put the Union Jack back up and swear an oath to defend King and Country. Also remember to go to your government approved church on Sunday. I prefer to elect my leaders and have a voice in my government. By the way even the 3/5's rule gave us more votes than the utter and compleat lack of representation in parliment afforded the colonies which lead the Sons of Liberty to dump tea in Boston harbor, an act that in and of itself was illegal under British law.
    Now petitioning a branch of the government that has no authority to pass laws is shows an upsetting lack of knowledge of how our government works, yet despite the White House claiming it woulod address any petition that got enough signatures, this is simply not the case. The recent fools errand of asking permission to secede from the union has not been addressed but the petitions looking to remove the first amendment rights from WBC and the second amendment rights from the rest of us are being held aloft by the current administration as a sign that they really do respond to the people.

    Well it does have to be that way, because we should never decide to make an example of a group by restricting their rights. This is the first step towards tyrany and once we accept it we will probably accept such attacks against lots more groups, until one day we find ourselves in such a restricted group and we are crying out for someone to stand up for our rights. This is an area where we can not afford to become complacent.
    The GLBT community is not the same as an ethnic minority, but EMTBravo is not the place to discuss that. However since you list that as a good reason to fight the Westboro Baptist Church, have you also signed the petition to lable the Roman Catholic Church as a "hate group"? After all the petition uses the same claims againt the RCC. I guess it must be hatefulness that causes them to be the foremost charitable organization in the world.
    I don't think WBC will become violent but mainly because I think they lack the guts to do something violent. I am not condoning violence but it is a pretty big step from cowardly holding signs outside a funeral to attacking a real live person who can fight back. Plus WBC seems to be all about getting media attention and if you think they are viewed negatively now, imagine how much more negatively they would be viewed if they acted violently. In addition to a good legal team, they also seem to have a pretty good marketing team, and they certainly do not want to jeapordize the small amount of good will shown to them by others.
    The Sothern Poverty Law Center is only steps away from being a hate group themselves. I do not consider anything from them to be valid as a primary source.

    There's a difference between protesting outside the White House and threatening the President. Nobody is protected by the Constitution when they make threats against a person (or the President).
    It is ironic and their venom is disturbing to say the least but we have to endure that just like we have to endure the neo-nazis, skinheads, and other extremist groups who enjoy the same freedoms that we do.
    As for abuses of the IRS code by claiming religious exemptions, they're not the only ones who do it. There're lots of other stories about the same thing in other groups but a dim view is taken on investigating and prosecuting "religious" groups, even the offensive ones.
    Gotta take the bad with the good. That's part of what makes this country so interesting!

    Despite being wounded himself, the homeowner maintained his composure and control of his weapon wounding all three of the suspects, one fatally.
    I don't know why they targeted this house full of kids at the time but I'm glad the homeowner was able to defend them.
