Well, can we probably agree that all the members of this forum do not drive by there regularly? So, Prucha, I for one appreciate the note.

A lot of jumping all over people recently for posting pretty innocuous comments and questions. What gives?

How many firefighters, police officers and teachers does the President of the United States hire?
Correct me if I'm wrong but police officers, firefighters and teachers are almost all state or local employees are they not?

I am not pleased with the anti union action that many republicans have taken but it's not enough for me to vote for obama. If you think the democrats give a s*** about you or your union then I have a bridge to sell you real cheap and barely used.

I'm sure this wont come as a big suprise to any of you ---- I'm voting for Romney !!!

While it is easy to appreciate the 'lessor of two evils' and 'none of the above' not voting may get you the greater of two evils and I'd rather have the lessor of the two evils
    than the greater.
I could rant for thousands of words but, bottom line, I intend to vote for Romney. He has held high public office but he has not spent his life as a career politician feeding from the public trough. I find him to be more decent, honest, genuine and competent than our current President and if he is elected along with another large turnover of older politcians in both houses of Congress, we may be able to get some solutions and actions to correct some of what has gone awry in our country.
Regardless of party, the entrenched occupants of Congress fail year after year to address and fix anything. They just keep rolling along, rolling over the populace.

NYS Health Law Article 30 requires all ambulance services to recieve a CON (certificate of need) from the Department of Heath. To get that you have to prove that there is a need for an ambulance service in an area and that an additional ambulance service would not (financially or membership drain) hurt the existing services. To prove need, you would have to show that calls are either not being covered or are being delayed. Since the area is fully covered by ALS services with average 4 minute response times you will not be able to prove need. An additional service will financially hurt the 2 existing services in (MV, NR, & Pelham). You could also hurt the membership rolls of Eastchester, Scarsdale and Larchmont/Mamaroneck VAC since many of there members come from NR.
Since each of the communities already have established services and are dispatched by the local police (most via a service contract) you will no be able to recieve calls.
Finally, Most VAC's are having major problems with staffing, instead of watering down the pool, why don't you join one of the existing VAC that could use the help.

I dunno. There's only so much tax and spend that people can take before they start to get fed up. Look at what's been going on in the news with the taxpayer-subsidized GSA junket to Las Vegas. My man took a trip on our dime, made sure that he got himself photographed in a suite, and then had the audacity to take the 5th in front of Congress. Personally, as a Westchester taxpayer, I'd much rather see those in charge cut some dead wood making better than a buck-eighty-five to sit in an office all day behind a computer, being otherwise unproductive, than have them cut the cheaper-but-more-productive version, all while de-valuing my home because it gets bad fire protection coverage.

IMO i believe they are aware of them, but choose not to use them for the fear of not having "total control" over "their scene." From the outside it would almost appear to be some kind of little man syndrome that haunts them. While this is not true for some depts in the county, it is for quite a few.

Thats the main problem these days, basicly if you are not a resident, you are not getting the job.It sucks

Thanks for the advice. I'm trying to do that however the problem i seem to face each time is most other departments have residents preferences first which really narrows down my options.

    Go to the 1:20 mark.
Watched this, and immediately thought of that Armonk car fire video.
ALWAYS WEAR YOUR PPE, because you just don't know what might happen next.

Yeah that video has been making its rounds, but I'm gonna give them credit where credit is due.
I hate parades and taking apparatus and members out of service for one, but that is a topic for another day. These guys fought that from a distance, didn't try to go up to the truck and pop the hood, but just lobbed water onto it. During that video, I didn't see them get engulfed by smoke or steam, and were always a full lane between them and the truck. What happened after the video ended, who knows, maybe they did just waltz up to the truck and go at it from there, in dresses.
The difference between this video and the one about Armonk, Armonk was dispatched to that fire and that's what they showed up with, these guys were just flagged down. Should you be ready for anything at any time, absolutely, but these were two completely different circumstances.

Careful those are future town councilors!
Joking aside, if you don't think the lay public has running commentary like this on a daily basis, you're kidding yourself, they expect a top notch professional response in 30 seconds to "huge fires" like this. Just looking professional in the eyes of the public actually can hide the inadequacies of the system and at least not damage your reputation. While we may know the VFD guy in the t-shirt had nothing to work with and no gear, clearly his actions and catching the fire on his phone didn't instill much confidence.
The reality is that perception = reality to the public. Lesson learned here? Like playing golf, sometimes it isn't about winning or losing, it's how you look doing it.

There would be no legal grounds for confiscating those cells phones. If you did, you would open yourself up to both criminal and civil liability.

Not for nothing it was a pretty sad showing by the fire dept. inadequate amount of FF's, inadequate PPE on the few who showed.

Just a great response from all involved.
Assuming the people recording had already called 911, a 6+ minute response time with just one firefighter Officer is just fantastic! And for that other guy to just jump on into the smoke and flames with his obvious department issued Dickies pants and shirt, which of course are both commonly accepted PPE. Just a great job all around.

The "Senior Guys" will be the ones that were brought up by their parents with a work ethic, and not to question the authority. These will be the guys that make it that long, and the most respected guys on the crew. Among all the garbage, they will stand out.

Too bad everyone who was ACTUALLY discrminated against in all the previous lists that the Vulcans have disputed couldn't all get together, and file a class-action lawsuit against the City of New York and the Vulcan Society..
  24. 99subi liked a post in a topic in Vulcan Society and racism in the FDNY
Its sad that this is still an issue today in our country and that reverse discrimination goes unchecked...but if it were the other way around you'd see Al Sharpton, Charles Baron, Charlie "crook" Rangel all at the podium.
I mean I know of another form of discrimination...rightfully holding back from promotions persons simply because they took a test and got hired despite having more qualifications then they had when they held the same "title" when not getting a pay check.
  25. 99subi liked a post in a topic by M' Ave in Vulcan Society and racism in the FDNY
100%! However, lets all stop using the word "reverse". Discrimination is discrimination, and that's that. If the Emerald Society held prep classes and held all the black applicants at the door, you'd have every news agency in the country camped outside with a mic in Al Sharpton's face.
