The Westchester County Department of Emergency Services need to have its roof replaced. It has been in disrepair for years, there has been injuries due to slip and fall on wet floors and equipment and gear getting wet from the leaky roof. Tonight the Westchester County Board of Legislators has the replacement of the roof on their agenda. A bond Act was presented to the Board thirteen months ago to fund the replacement and the Board refused to act. It is now said that the BOL want to obtain the funds from the DES operating budget. Operating funds are for training and staff, not capital projects. I'm sure after hurricane Sandy the DES operating budget is stretched to its max. With Bond interest rates at its lowest, it would be appropriate to bond the replacement and its my belief the only way to fund it. I would like to ask my colleagues to contact the Board of Legislators TODAY by email and urge them to BOND this badly need project. This is what I wrote and emailed to them.

I was deployed on Saturday morning (Yonkers spare L-78) at about 0900Hrs with a crew of five firefighters and did not get home until Monday morning at about 0230Hrs. We were first sent to Freeport LI and then sent to Baldwin LI. I had a great crew who was willing to do anything asked to help the people of Long Island. We responded to many calls and our relief crew actually caught a couple of structure fires.

If photos are the payment received for going, does it matter? Take pictures, have as good a time as possible while there. I'm sure when the alarms come in the cameras are put away.

While in Maryland this week for a class, I came across this apartment complex structure fire. The complex, Seven Oaks, is directly across the street from Fort Meade and NSA facilities and many of the residents are Military families, although it wasn't clear to me if any of the apartments/buildings involved were Military or non-Military residents.
Sorry for the quality, I took the pics on my cell phone, as I had no camera with me.
Edit: Mods, if you could rotate the photos, I'd appreciate it. I cannot seem to do so.

I went down as part of a team assembled with the state, consisting of fire safety reps, safety officers, and physical plant people, and we were all on fumes until we finaly found another state agency (parks) able to assist us...THANK YOU PARKS!!!! Without you all of us would have been without transportation and all of the generators we deployed would have died.
Lines for gas stations were in some cases a mile long, with police standing by to keep the peace.
I went down for four days, and put in 16 hour days, and saw a lot of devastation, but on the same token saw a lot of humanity at its finest. God bless all who are responding down there now, stay safe and come home soon. I will probably be going back again depending on what this Nor'easter does. I even got a nice going home present on Sunday evening...I arrived at a one car MVA rollover on the thruway with 4 patients that must have just happened before my arrival. Everyone was out but I triaged them and gave the report to the first arriving chief...trouble has a nack of following me...
    Stay safe everyone.
