  1. Last night I drove one of our engines to the Liberty State park for to have it photographed with the tower lights in the background. This was my first year participating although my department has sent vehicles in the past. The site affords an amazing view of the city and the lights emanating from ground zero. While looking at the lights, I had a chance to reflect on the events both of that day and every September 11 since.  The tribute in lights reminds us what and who we lost. Sometimes “we shall never forget” simply is not enough.

May all of those who were killed on 911 and have died since rest in peace knowing that you are not forgotten and we have picked up the torch and will carry on!

Also a special thank you to the organizers and volunteers that made this happen. It was well run and a worthwhile endeavor. Not to mention the site chosen afforded an amazing view of the tribute in lights.

  2. Saw this on KME's Facebook Page

So just last week several staff from the Town of Mamaroneck traveled to the KME plant to check on the status of our 2017 KME engine 36 that has been at the factory for warranty repairs since March 19 2019. With seven items to be repaired only four of the seven items were repaired in the four month period and three new defects were identified
This seems to be poor performance on the part of KME. To the management of KME how does the Town get its truck back in service?

There appears to be no response for KME.

The nose looks like a '50's era Dodge Power Wagon.

...but the cab/roofline and doors look like it is from a '60s VW bus.
I do not know about the winch.

looks like a home made tow truck.

I have Heard of "Tri-Village ALS" ,"Mamaroneck Amb. Dist" and "Yorktown ALS Dist". Are these medics or a private ambulance company?

The Town of Mamaroneck has an ambulance district. The district provides the medic and the Ambulance Corps (for the Town of Mamaroneck and (Larchmont) and Mamaroneck EMS for the village of Mamaroneck provide the ambulances.

I'm curious to know the same. Wonder if any special training or CDL-A is required.

A CDL is not required for any emergency vehicle, only a valid drivers license.

Almost all fire apparatus would required a CDL without the exemption.

However the person delivering the vehicle is required to have a CDL. Once it is owned by a political subdivision,

the vehicle is considered an authorized emergency vehicle and the CDL exemption kicks in.

They are even exempt from the tow truck regulation as are the NYPD tow trucks.

(for those who would ask). Tow trucks are required to have tow truck plates.
This is because tow trucks are required to have higher limits in insurance.

Lets trim a little from their budget to protect our President.

But just think how much money the protesters brought into the city for both the UN and Trump Properties!

What happened to the bidding process in Harrison ? How can they be getting a Seagrave . You can not right a spec for one type of rig that's bid rigging . Anybody but Barry for now

It's all how the spec is written. for example if the department wants a specific feature or equipment and that feature is specific to a certain manufacturer then others may not meet the spec. Also if that feature is an option to other manufacturers, it may drive the cost up to the point that they wont submit a bid. Some departments have height, weight, size or departure angle limitations and these may disqualify many manufacturers.

Peace officer status.  Baton, OC, cuffs.  No firearms.  They stopped carrying firearms and changed uniforms to baby blue collar shirt that says Park Ranger in 2001 I believe.  Prior to that you could barely tell the difference between the county specials and and actual Police Officers.  Uniforms were pretty much identical. Which can be good and bad.  I believe the county patch on the arm was the difference but someone here I'm sure can correct me on this.

Many years ago almost all of the County parks had summer police assigned to them.  They used to be called "specials" and wore the County PD uniforms with the old patch and hats with "a 50 mission crush". We were armed with a .38. Many police officers of my time started off as specials.  "

If you want to know what fallout (sorry) will come from a major nuclear power plant closure, just look at what happened 25+ years ago when Andrew Cuomo's father Mario Cuomo was the governor of NY state, and pushed agreements to shut down Long Island's brand sparkling new Shoreham nuclear power plant.

    http://www.nytimes.com/1989/03/01/nyregion/cuomo-and-lilco-sign-a-new-accord-to-shut-shoreham.html?pagewanted=all

At the time Shoreham cost 4 billion to build. It never came on line, I believe that the State reimbursed LILCO for most of these costs.  In the past, the biggest obstacle to closing Indian Point was who was going to pay for the cleanup costs that would last for up to 10 years. If the State closed IP, Albany would be responsible for the costs. If the NRC refuses to renew their licenses or the plants reached the end of their lives then Entergy would bear the costs.

Funny, none of the articles mention who will pay for the cleanup? Personally. I would love to see Cuomo in a white (or better yet orange) jumpsuit with a broom and a bucket for a few years draining the uranium pools.

  10. STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.--  Enough is enough -- that's Gov. Andrew Cuomo's message to those abusing the Staten Island Expressway's HOV lane, which opened in September of 2015.

Starting today, the governor has directed the New York State Police to partner with the New York City Police Department to "step up enforcement of the expressway's HOV lanes, and put a stop to this reckless and arrogant behavior once and for all."

"Plain and simple, this is a blatant disregard for the law that could cause a real danger to all drivers on the Staten Island Expressway," Cuomo said in a statement in which he credits Assemblyman Michael Cusick for bringing the issue to his attention. In addition to Cusick, Cuomo also thanked State Police Troop NYC and the NYPD for "making this a public safety priority."
