given The vast discussion of Last weeks; condos in edgewater of Lightweight Construction a buddy of mine who's living in southern Pa. had this Post arrive from an Incident in Bryans Road Maryland which is a bedroom community along the Potomic River.....
(The 1st Photo shows extensive Basement Damage to a residential fire In which the "Engineered strandboard I beams" burned 87% away and are sagging in the photo,)
"This is a photo from the basement of the House Fire today. Notice the burnt out I-beams. These are the engineered beams that are common in construction over the last few years. The floor in the living area above had sagged about a foot and was on the verge of collapse when noticed by interior Officers and crews. Fortunately no one was injured and the area was cordoned off. Just another reminder of what can and will kill us. Thanks to Mark Kaufmann for sharing the photo."
below (2nd Picture) shows The general configuration of these OSB I beams in another larger structure, Obviously These are being supported By 2x 6 headers and studs for a larger structure...obviously larger then a single fam dwelling

I think the biggest pit fall of this forum has been that many people on here promote "a pat on the back" for anything and everything. A "like button" which is pressed for posting an incident or any other thread. People are constantly looking for kudos every time they make a post and that clearly isn't going to happen. It is innate for human beings to disagree for the most part and most people have a difficult time coping with the fact that not everyone is going to agree with their opinions and may not get positive reinforcement. A wise man said a long time ago that "it has become appalling obvious that technology has exceeded humanity" and since that time it appears to have become harder and harder to engage another human in a conversation or any type of debate. For the most part all of us on here are buffs and trying to hone our skills and knowledge. So why be upset when someone tells you got screwed up or tells you their opinion of what they would've done??? Why not debate the circumstances and listen to their opinion. Maybe they've been in the same situation and seen the same outcome and maybe, just maybe you could pick up something you didn't even think about. Most arguments are misunderstandings anyway. A perfect example is the argument ongoing as I type this response. Rescue24 has made a post and although I may agree and disagree to certain parts, that clearly does not mean he isn't entitled to his opinion. I've noticed that most of the people who are actually willing to debate are kicked off the site because somebody cried about one of their responses. Now you're left with nobody to debate with and a pat on the back for everyone else's bullshit. Everyone who wanted to debate and learn something or just argue their opinions have left. Now it's just robots hitting a like button.
I don't have facebook or twitter, or anything of that nature because I feel it would be the bane of my existence but from looking at a few fire wires and such, I really don't see people debating topics on there either so I really see no reason for this site to be dead. Let's all communicate with each other and we'll actually accomplish something we didn't even think was possible.
Let's all get together and design a Turing machine which will solve this Enigma!!! LOL

Perfect example why these "mega complexes" are scary as can be. They get built super quickly, super crappy, and to huge scale.
Wonder what type (or lack of) fire stops were in place...

On the way back from a fire call Thursday morning, Firefighter Brandon Hausbeck and Lt. Christopher McGowan were at a red light when they noticed something was wrong with their friend and colleague who was driving their truck.

"All of a sudden the rig started to move forward and I looked over to the engineer, the guy driving and it was obvious something was going on with him," said Hausbeck.....

And with the electronics in the SCBA, we can (after the fact) see when it was tested (date & time) and what the levels were. This is one of the 1st thing NIOSH checks when investigating a LODD.
A few depts. can see the air levels in real time during an incident.

We cover 42 sq miles 35,000 people, id say 70% of calls are within the same "downtown" 12 sq miles, We cover Route 8 as well, We have 2 stations, HQ and north end, 13 a shift, 4 on eng and 4 on ladder at HQ and 4 on eng at north end, contract says we can go down to minimal of 11, subsequently they'll take that 1st spot off the ladder then the HQ eng, 1 in the SUV as shift commander, work a 3 on 3 off schedule, go to minimal medicals (unconscious, seizures, codes) or any other things dispatch EMDs as serious, If there's a fire in the city you go to work, theres no waititng aroundo to grow in alarms, 2nd alarm gets 17 guys called back, ( must live within 20 mins of HQ within in 1 year of employment), we are the only carrer dept in the area, next closest is Waterbury and Bristol and they're not up until something like 4-5 alarms, we rely on volunteer dept from surrounding areas as mutual aid and city coverage.
Couple pics from a link from last weeks fire.

My thoughts and prayers for all of the MOS and LEOs that have to deal with the uncalled for but mostly planned violent anarchy and chaos, and hope most of them make it through unscathed, but unfortunately from listening to the dispatches that doesn't seem likely unless they withdraw completely, which we all know they cannot for the people caught in-between's sake. My heart goes out to all the responders in this no-win situation.
Alex and BFD389RET - thank you for the updates. We all have to be alert, because it will spread before it dissipates, and we all could be caught in the repercussions caused by the actions of these mobs if others get the idea they can get away with it "in support" - like they really care what happened in Ferguson. But they will use it as an excuse, and some areas are not used to handling this kind of violence aimed towards them.
Stay safe everyone, and keep your eyes and ears open.
