I agree on the congratulations and wonder why this story doesn't have a lot more rep points in honor of a job well done. This kid (I use this as a term of endearment) saved a Brother!

When I retired from there last year there was an estimated few hundred people that are eligible to retire up untill 2015. I know a ton of people have gone so far this year so my guess is they will hire alot but the county is funny so you never know. As far as your age you best bet would be to call human resources for a definite answer but I do believe you can be procesed but not appointed untill 21. My son and nephew recieved his score on Saturday so the grades are going out. I suggest you take every test out there. If you want more information on the job itself feel free to send me a private message

Sage I can't offer any more advice than what has been given to you by some very credible and knowledgeable people in this forum. I do want to commend you for taking a task most can't or won't do and that is trying to motivate people to engage in the most important element of our business which is training. I have been in your shoes and believe me it is not just the senior members that lack motivation I also see it in the newer ones who seem know it all. Just keep at it. Good luck!!

If we had to say there is a down side to being part of the Fire Serrvice this would be it. I was a member of the Yonkers Fire Department for almost 29 years and I can say with certainty that you burry too many friends before their time. However to go along with that is one of my sayings I used all the time. Everything in life is give and take, therefore if it were not for the Fire Service I would not have made so many Good and Close friends over the last 29 years. I had the pleasure of being one of A. Rods traing Officers when he started his career on the YFD, it was there that are friendship started. Tony was a True Gentleman, True Friend, Geat Firefighter, and one of the most giving people you would ever want to meet. He would do anything for a person in need, and he continued that even on his last day with us. The only thing that brings a sense of compfort to me as I think about my friend is that I know he is in excellent company with all the other Great people taken from us to early. You will truly be missed by the many people that you touched their lives
Good bye MY FRIEND see you again one day.
    Your Friend
    Mike

I this area (anywhere within a 50 mile radius of NY City) every department should plan on at least 100 victims for MCI planning mostly because tour buses and trains. Even if your department doesn't have a major road or train tracks you need to know how to handle it because you most likely will be called to assist.

He saved his daughter and tried to save the piece of garbage who was molesting her and could of possibly killed her. His actions were justified and hopefully won't see any furthur legal implications. And I agree if this was NY...

Instead of alerting to the danger of melting face pieces, why not spend the money, time and effort developing one that is more resistant to intense heat and flame?
