Imagine if something like this were to happen in Westchester County?? I can only imagine the hissy fits that would be thrown. Good for them, glad to see people stepped up to the plate and made things happen.
On a side note. How will RFD provide these FF's? do they plan on hiring new ones or just adding more hours to the current FF's?

never gonna happen. These chiefs are so power hungry they will never give up their little sandbox.
The guys in the city have full trucks and they still get more guys then they need. And that's a good thing. Here in Westchester everyone is so scared of this big scary Consolidation. Just get it done. We are all getting kicked around by a couple of dinosaur Chiefs who are still using the mind set of the 70's 80's and 90's. Times have changed. Taxpayers expect and deserve more and better fire protection. Showing up with one guy on the rig or sending a couple of guys is not gonna cut it anymore. As was stated, everywhere else in the country departments cover 100's of square miles with less then we have. You cant rely on Vols like you use too. You cant expect a fully staffed engine or ladder to come anymore. Times have changed. Now it's time this county to catch up.

ONE WORD SOLVES THIS AND MANY OTHER ISSUES Consolidation.....you can do it many different ways....start with the departments in the same Battalion.
FirNaTine i agree management can be done better concerning our resources. But if you ask me I think in most of Westchester there are to many ladders and so called heavy rescues. Also what my Department does when we take a piece of equipment out of our district that is vital to our community/ district we thrn backfill.
You may ask then where does it stop hmmm thats the million $ question....
I agree if you cant fullfill your district with proper fire protection and dont have a plan to back it up when you leave you should then manage the mutual aid plan before the call.
But it did seem in the IA that there was alot of mutual aid on this job for a PD but thr I C knows best at that time and bottom.line everyone went home.

There is a plan in place. The career depts in So. Westchester have drilled in NYC annually on it for the last 5+ years. FDNY still wants a check in at Yonkers Raceway for accountability, but that is only taking about 15-20 minutes. Part of that is they may not want us deploying to station A, when they need us at X. Its easier to make that call then.

Kid, just listen to the chief.
I appreciate that you like fire trucks. I like fire trucks too. I like getting paid to ride on them and I like looking at pictures of them on Emtbravo. I also appreciate that you're new. I was once new as well, in fact it wasn't that long ago. Someday, you might be sitting in a fire truck and look around the cab of the big fancy engine they bought you and see a 65 year old man driving and a 80 year old fire police in the back. Or you might be fortunate enough to get on a paid job and have one other guy with you or you might even be by yourself. And you will not care how many red trucks are coming but rather what the hell are you going to do with what you've got.

Alot of speculation going on ,on your part don't you think??? FYI, Chief Kielb had been a DC of personnel prior to Commissioner Pagano's appointment and has been a candidate for the commissioners position in the past.I have worked under both of these men and I believe either one would fit the position well.I am sorry to see Chief Fitz. go . He has done great things for the advancement of my department. He also had over 32 years on and maybe felt it time to move on.Your ASSumption as to why is ,well, none of your business .

That's the trend of the Job Brother let's do more with less. Always loved that mentality of having do take on more things like EMS for the so called "Productiviy" argument. Then we turn around and they lay guys off and put rigs out of service. That makes sense!

Those are typically called "combo" departments, with the exception of those low down, dirty, cheaters who employee "janitors"....but that is a whol enother thread!

After almost 6 years the 13 members of the Buffalo NY Fire Department who were denied promotions because of race will be learning what they will be entitled to. Like the New Haven 20 who recently had their settlement of $2 million in damages along with $3 million in legal fees announced sources I am close to say that the settlement proposal has been submitted. Back pay, pension $, damages too mention a few will soon be determined. Amazing how these settlements cost the taxpayers in these 2 cases millions and the people (Both Mayors) who are responsible for the cases to even exist walk away with no punishment what so ever. Accountabilty should be a factor here and maybe some would reconsider holding back other people in their careers because in some words "They Can"! Great news both for the NH20/Buffalo 13 for fighting the fight! You have paved the way for many in the future!

Sorry to hear about this...6 guys is a lot. That's a really big hit. I love the mentality...well, money is a little tight, so we should make the neighborhoods less safe.
All of these politicians love this new, "do more with less" catch phrase. I'm sure that for the 4th year in a row, NYC will look to close companies.
We don't do more with less. We do the job we can with the manpower they provide us with. I'm looking out for me and the people I work with, I'm going home everyday and so are they. Everything else comes second.
