I think the best part of this whole video is.......the fact there is four to five firefighters and one chief in front of this burning store front and the camera guy has to tell the guys to get a "can" to put the fire out !!!!!
    I just don't get it ??

A garbage truck is not a structure fire. Its also not comparable to a structure fire. Personally, i didnt have a problem with FPFD not wearing their masks. If they felt comfortable taking a dash for a peak inside, fine. Save your air for when its absolutely necessary...personal choice about how much you expose yoirself to toxins.
Organization, process and tactics were the more glaring issue for me.

3:30.....no one has stretched a line. No one seems to have completed a primary of the original fire occupancy, some dude is cutting like hell to open a Bilco door and another guy has his hood up under his helmet.....no face piece on....
This is confusing me....and looks terrible

It's a disgrace and the city should be ashamed of itself. Newburgh is already understaffed and this is only going to make it worse.
To expect the feds to continue funding their fire department staffing forever is ludicrous. It was an infusion, a shot in the arm, it wasn't forever.
I hope the displaced FF get jobs elsewhere ASAP!

Wow, if that isn't an understatement! I know numerous VFD's that run the whole show on far less than that. At $77k/yr I can see how a dept. can go to so many parades without affecting public safety resource, they could buy a parade engine so the real engines could be in quarters!

But you could. Nothing says you need your own custom turnout gear.
As for the masks, you are not fitted with a custom mask. You wear the size mask that fits you. S M-L or XL. Nothing special about it and at 300 bucks a pop, that's big bucks to some departments with lots of members.

We used to do that too. Gear used to be stored on the rig and it was first come first served. Now I'm not advocating a return to those "good ole days"..and they were good, damn good...but for financially strapped department's sharing gear should be an option (in fact in some parts it's the norm cuz there just ain't no other choice).
But hey what do I know I'm just a fossil who, like hundreds of other guys, did everything "wrong" and "unsafe" and yet here we are to tell the tale.

This deal will not prevent the spread of nuclear weapons in the middle east and it will not change the centuries of hatred, venom, vitriol and violence in the region.
100 Billion dollars would do wonders to the infrastructure right here in the US or our homeless problem rather than sending it to a country that has traditionally not been an ally of ours.

Of course the scores aren't based on race.....duh! And names don't mean anything these days. There are kids named Apple and North these days!
Satire aside, did Stamford really require pictures?

When are we going to acknowledge that the system is broken? Fire and EMS in Westchester is a collection of varying agencies but we have no system. The Yorktown fire station construction 1500 feet from an existing fire station in another district and this situation with the mutual aid effectively shutting down a department highlights just how screwed up we are.

And EMS is no better off. The patchwork of different agencies all doing different things at different levels with varying success shows that we really haven't changed all that much since the 80's when the Journal News published their "where you live could cost your life" series of articles.

I'd think there's a little more to it than just "let millwood respond" -- don't forget, this is district lines... so the concept of "let millwood first respond" is also "let millwood auto dual-respond/first respond for us for free"
I think the RIGHT strategy would be to look at the fire district lines and understand what makes sense and where the best coverage can be provided - not just keeping existing lines and buildling up to support an imginary line in the ground
And it goes both ways - maybe there's areas where YFD is faster than MFD (and there are)
The above is a "big picture" statement though and holistically looking at things...but why would we bother to do that

That's the 64,000 question. We still have no system - in fire or EMS - and we have inadequate career departments, inadequate volunteer departments, and other problems. But without anyone in charge (of anything) admitting we have a problem we are still stuck with the same rut spinning our wheels.

There are tons of other threads on this subject of but I think it does boil down to that. There's two disparate classes of training in NYS and absolutely no requirement for the volunteer sector to comply with it so there is no guarantee you're getting apples when you order apples. When a truck of oranges shows up what are you supposed to do?

I have NO idea what lead those departments to set their run cards that way. Some ideas:
-Level of training of members a department sends on a mutual aid response.
-number of members responding on each piece.
I was a volunteer in a town that would go mutual aid into a local city with a career department. They made it quite clear that only members with FF1 and a crew of 3 of said members would be tolerated at their fires. Anything but that and we were sent home.
Could be the same there. Got tired of asking the volunteer departments to meet a standard. Easiest way to deal with the problem is to call departments you KNOW will show up with the right number of trained members.
