Hopefully they can move on and get down to hiring quality people for a serious job, not just filling quotas from an unemployment line.

The real question is why didn't YOU post anything about it? Content on this site is member driven, and it's a collaborative effort..

I'm not really looking to have a discussion but if one insues, so be it. I have noticed in a few threads recently that some people aren't able to take criticism or jest very well anymore. I would like to take this opportunity to bring back an acronym that was used by many on this site. Q.T.I.P. Quit taking it personal. Guess what kids, this is the emergency service. You are posting on a forum that is dedicated to us. If you say something out of line or just plain stupid, you will get your various parts busted. That's just how it works. Thanks for your time guys and gals. As always, stay safe.

On christmas eve this imposter signed on the air for a chimney fire as a DC from 1 community (warren car 2) which is 3 towns away from the actual incident town (Morris) and he "arrived on scene and said nothing showing cancel everyone" yet the caller stated fire and smoke in the house and the Morris chief (car 1) showed up and concurred that they indeed had actual incident going on, no clue if this imposter was ever actually on scene of just talking outta his you know what, what's freighting is what is this guys intentions? Is he seeing how the fd/ems responds to catch us off guard one day and pull some stunt or what.

Wait, you mean a department didn't want to send a company into a city that they don't normally operate in without ensuring there was a command level officer present? I for one am both shocked AND appauled at this display of professional responsibility.
I'm sure if Yonkers had an issue with this they'd stop calling these departments for mutual aid...

Seriously though, lets allow EMT's to drop combi-tubes or king airways before we start talking about pushing meds to wake junkies.
  12. Ladder44 liked a post in a topic by Bnechis in Should Firefighters (or BLS) Be Able To Administer Narcan?
How about we make sure that Firefighters 1st meet NFPA standards for firefighting before we add more training requirements?
NYS needs 1 standard for that, but we can not even do that.
How about making sure that we can get an ambulance on the road in a timely manor. While this is a nice sounding concept (particularly in areas with high drug usage) we have a limited amount of training hours available and their are many other priorities
  13. Ladder44 liked a post in a topic by Bnechis in Interoperability With DPW
We have a DPW dispatch station (and FD & PD) in our EOC radio room so during major storms we can work together. After listening to the DPW radio for a while I learned that we can not be "interoperable" even if we can talk on their channel. This is because we use plain english and they use DPW speak.
Hey bob, you missed a sofa on main st.
    Jim replow that area.
Which truck picked up the TV's that were in the road? Sammys truck did.
No truck numbers, if you do not know who is on which truck or which route you do not stand a chance.

For the record I am a 2nd amendment supporter..that being said I don't agree with arming emt's for the simple reason you are adding liability on any call you go on and increase the chance of the patient who could be an EDP to grab your gun and pump rounds into you or your partner or anywhere else. Also I don't think any company or agency would want to have that liability. As far as more guns, less assaults make your case.

Your right Chief, they once did care until they sold their Souls and lowered the Standards to reach Quotas! Can't put "Quotas" before "Quality" in the long run everybody suffers!

There are volunteer rigs in our county that run about 30 calls per year (maybe 1st due at a fire every 3 to 5 years). They last 25 years, thats 750 calls in the vehicles lifetime.
There are FDNY rigs that do 5,000+ calls per year, thats 50,000+ calls and who knows how many fires. The FDNY rig does more calls in 2 months than the volunteer rig above does in its lifetime.
You can not compare the two.
    Better quality - Really?
Better features - maybe, but are they needed to get the job done?
Better condition - yes, except for the flat spots in the tires from sitting so long

Low bider my friend, those apparatus are work horses, built on bare bones though, only having the minimal equipment needed to do its job, not 6,000 lights, no gold leaf, no 8-10 man cabs (cause you always fill those seats for jobs).

Brandie new, no exp full time at Empress is about $18.00/hr. Per-diems get more $$$, no benefits. Cortlandt Regional EXP NEEDED $25/hr. Town Of Mamaroneck Amb District EXP NEEDED, about $30/hr (I gotta look at my stubs some day). EVAC I am pretty sure just went to $28.

Final thoughts on this and my apologies to the OP for the direction some, including myself, have taken this thread.
    1. Not a member of the "tea party".
    2. The "thinning the herd" comment was more what I was thinking.
    3. ANY LEO or HCP here, that say they don't judge a suspect or patient in some way is a liar. We ALL do it, whether you want to admit it or not. Are you honestly going to say that you haven't judged, in some way, the EDP that you have responded to the 15th time? The drunk that wrecked his car? The frequent flyer? The homeless alcoholic? The "seeker"? The nursing home? Do you see the elderly white lady driving the Buick the same as you do the middle aged black man driving the Mercedes? Would it make a difference if that white lady were in the grocery store parking lot and the black man was in your neighborhood or "the hood"?
We ALL judge. Yet rather than admit it, you would rather crucify me here because I admit that I don't have the same level of "compassion" for the addict as I might for someone else.
Look in the mirror ladies and gentlemen.

Interesting, because I took it not as lower on the evolutionary scale and more as thinning the heard/survival of the fitest. If you are dumb enough to think you can put anything into your body without consiquences than you may find you will not live a long life.
I have 2 problems with this:
    1) staffed BLS units should get this, but as previously stated you are unlikely to get BLS in Westchester onscene in time to use it,
    2) giving it out to junkies so they can us it themselves, why not also pay for their narcotics as its their "medication"? We spend billions on the war on drugs (another issue) and this just sends a message that if you want to shoot up for the 1st time to see if you like it, its safe because your buddy can stand by and save you and no one will get caught.
