Hello folks, I have not posted in a long time, just cant help myself, what has happened in 3 years:
    New Rigs
    New repeater portables
    New Scotts
    A real inventory of equipment
New CAD software and real IT network which we run
Replacement gear and washing and repair
    BailOut systems
This is just a few of the examples of progress, Noah Lighty and Ted Beale have put us on a new path and they deserve a pat on the back, with the coming election we dont no what tommorow brings but they have shown leadership and that having your own people up top can make a difference. Lending Hartsdale a rig is a thank you from the past, we have received more then we gave. Might be my last post ( Law Dept.) Thanks to all for the past support.
    Jim Loftus
( now a washed up calltaker and IT Whizard )

That's a pretty lame excuse to through out every time management enforces the rules. Does the hardline seem a little much? Sure, we we have no backstory either. Things like this tend to follow Union/Admin trends. Could there be some contention right now? The bigger the dept/union the more things all become bargaining tools. Maybe the union took a hard stance one something else, and now is feeling those effects.
I personally think the idea of a finite period or specific days makes sense, as this is a publicity nightmare for the admin, but if you look at the definition of uniform, you find why there are pretty exacting standards. Next week it'll be brown t-shirts, or Save the Ta Ta's. This is a labor-management issue that shouldn't ever see the light of day.

I think Sr, his show, his bikes are all a joke. He is way beyond shady. He got rich off a t.v. show that had him and his dsyfunctional family making idiots out of themselves. He is not a stand up guy in any way shape or form. I know a big 9/11 ride is leaving there that the IAFF is organizing. So much for Union Brotherhood. They should have looked into that one. Just my opinion. I would trust a bike built y that idiot.

(In a reply to a post made not visible)
Is your message that the police shouldn't have vehicles to drive because of a fiscal crisis? If you're a cop as your profile suggests you know that vehicles are purchased regularly to maintain the fleet and that money usually comes from a different pool of money (capital vs. operating).
Our members haven't had a contract in two years but vehicle replacement continues because it has to. That doesn't mean there's no fiscal crisis. It's a necessity or we'd be unable to respond to a lot of calls.
As for this whole debate over painting of cars, why are we concerned about a couple of hundred dollars for paint and not the duplicative costs of seven PD's in a single town or 42 PSAPs instead of a real 911 center and communications system.
I "hear" that Ford is providing two tone or white cars for nearly the same cost (I say nearly because I "hear" this and have no personal knowledge of it).
I'm all for talking about saving money but there are much bigger fish to fry than this one.

Housewatch is the small office located at the front of the firehouse on the first floor, usually to the right or left of the apparatus floor, or sometimes right in between the two doors. It is where the calls come into on the computers, and are acknowledged. It is to be staffed 24/7 when companies are in quarters, and each fireman takes a 3 hour watch. The Housewatchman turns out the companies when a run comes in, records all the runs in the company journal, answers the department phone, and answers the front door. He's also supposed to record in the journal any visitor who comes into the firehouse.
In Boston, the Housewatch is called the "Patrol" or "Patrol Desk".

I have to respectfully disagree. In this age of modern communications, I think the sirens are a thing of the past. If they were so necessary, why would career FD's and PD agencies not "need" them? If you need "two forms of notification", your pager and cell phone text message should suffice. The siren may be a tradition, but let's not fool ourselves into thinking it's the only way to get the job done.

You think people would be much more outwardly appreciative of your work on this. I have no idea about the technical stuff that you had to deal with, but I already notice the site is much faster on this new server.
Thanks again Seth AND staff for your dedication to this site.....it really is an invaluable resource to this community.

Isn't Moynihan station supposed to open up space at Penn for MetroNorth in the distant future? These revenue neutral projects are ridiculous. They need to spend money attracting more customers rather than adding services for existing customers.

I'd rather see a MNRR connection across the Hudson so that people don't have to connect via Hoboken.

Because they want to say "we have a paid fire department". Their approach is why pay when we can everyone else respond. Mutual aid is for extreme circumstances..not first due assignments.

Lets throw another wrinkle into this. 1st its not that Pelham will not provide additional taxes, in reality they can't. Because the population is so small, the per capita costs to improve are never going to happen. The real issue for Pelham, Pelham Manor and any other small community FD or understaffed FD (career, combo or vol.) is ISO's plan to change the rating system this year.
Under the new plan, any dept that responds to fire calls with fewer than 6 firefighters (2 in / 2 out, MPO & IC) will automatically become an ISO 9.
What does this mean for Pelham?
Annual insurance premiums for commercial and residential properties in Pelham is approximately $5.1 million. In Pelham Manor the premiums are approximately $5.9 million. Combined, the property owners in Pelham and Pelham Manor pay roughly $11 million per year in premiums.
Both PFD & PMFD are ISO PPC 4's. If the 2 depts do not restructure the way the respond to fire so the have at least 4 interior qulified members + an MPO & IC, Both villages will see the ISO change them to 9 and the insurance premiums will go up by 40% per year. Thats a combined increas of $4.4 MILLION.
This increase is more than the current combined budget of the 2 fire departments.
Meanwhile the Pelham Village Mayor and Board are considering reducing manning.
I suspect nothing will change until the ISO rating does and then the finger pointing at village hall will begin.

One point which, unbelievably, has not been addressed in this thread.
Why are the medis and politicos targeting public sector salaries and pensios? Because they CAN! Our salary and pension plans are an open book thanks to FOIL. You can wrie a letter and find our packages from FF to Chief.
Try that in the private sector. The guy in the cubicle next to you won't even show you his pay stub. Higher up the private sector chain, it becomes top secret, not to mention expense accounts for execs.
Public sector ranks progress pretty evenly in salary from FF to Chief, with most Chiefs nationwide making about twice the salary of a FF. What's the salary gap in business between average worker and CEO?
Now throw politicians into the mix. You would be amazed at what they are exempt from. Bill Clinton has never worked anyplace except the political world and is a multimillionaire. What made that happen...good investments?
I understand Mrs. Obama has a staff of 40 to pick out her clothes and get her dressed. I bet all 40 are going to get a pension after 4 yrs on the job. BTW Did you ever see the first lady getting off Marine 1 and say "Who dressed Her this morning?
That's enough to spew for one post..Goodnight Gracie

Exactly. That's the argument no one wants to make when it inconveniently fails to support their point.
