Maybe the Mayans doing the calendar just ran out of 'ink' and since they were so far ahead decided to take a break and get back to it later and in the meantime their civilization expired.

I call the added description a "size-up." There should be a size up for any fire...even the 2.5 story wood frame ones.

I was going to give them the benefit of the doubt and figured they wanted to draw the fire into the space above the garage., It appeared maybe this would have reduced inevitable clean-up costs by reducing debris. -

To begin I am one of the members of the program and we have 4 advisors total for 16 members. The program started with 4 original members and 2 advisors, since then one of the original members has graduated. We practice once a week, which is alot compared to some other organizations that I know of. Mostly our practices consist of basic evolutions taken from the FF1 book, but during the summer when school is out we go to our training base and do lots of hands on training such as VES, raising ladders, forcible entry, streching lines and flowing water. Also during the summer we are put in rotation groups, and when it's your groups turn you can attend the regular department drill, to either spectate or participate (only if the CO permits us to) within the drill. However for when school is in session we will mostly hold in house drills, like wide area search or firefighter entrapments. When we wanted to start the program the 4 members and 2 advisors all met up and we created an application for membership (a modifiyed version of the departments application with a parent sign off ) and a program by laws booklet (a code of conduct and an outline of the program does as well as another parent sign off sheet at the back. After creating this we brought it to the chief and after we received his approval, he then brought it up at the department meeting, and they voted upon it. Every member of the program is issued their own PPE and a gear bag for storage, most of our gear issued is 10+ years old, other members and I have also purchased other pieces of equipment (new gloves or radio holsters) we are also issued a work uniform and a dress uniform (both portrayed in the video). Lastly, the program has a chain of command going from Advisor to Probitionary member, It goes Advisor, 1 Captain, 2 Lieutenants, J.F.F, and Probitonary Member. To become a Captian or Lieutenants you must be elected to that position. -

You already know the players and the problems, it is highly unlikely that there is a big hidden issue that could explode on you, particularly in a small dept.. Even if OSHA (PESH) did come in it is technically the "Employeer" which has to make corrections, the employeer is the Board of Fire Commissioners, Board of Ditrectors or the City or Village admin and not the Fire Chief. Volunteer leaders often leave because they have other interests, family pressures, job issues or they have just had enough (I know career chiefs who have retired for the same reasons). Don't over read it.

PFDRes47cue liked a post in a topic by cman473 in Busy night for Cronomer Valley & Plattekill FD
Yesterday November 19th 2012, The Plattekill Fire Department was faced with another 2 tragic losses to its community during a time of year that is supposed to be filled with family memories, happy celebrations of what you are thankful for and the anticipation of another great holiday season, but was shattered by 2 separate fatal incidents who had us running on our feet.
I can tell you one thing though; through out my career in the fire service, I had the chance to work with some of the best professionals in the field. For this I am thankful. The 1st incident was difficult, difficult because when you are called to an incident; your mind set tells you what you have to do. Your mind runs through scenarios and ways you can mitigate the situation, quickly and safely as possible…and then you get there. And anyone knows who have had the chance or the job as a commanding officer can tell you everything you could have thought of while en-route WILL be changed in an instant and you must adapt to the current situation at hand. Did we know it was going take so long to get into the scene? No…
Did we think we were going to pull him out quickly and send him off the hospital to get his wounds treated? Yes…
Our members, Cronomer Valley’s members and Clintondales Members treated the scene with respect and professionalism that in my opinion goes unmatched by other incidents I have seen or read about. Again, this is something else I am thankful for… to have an extended family who wants the same professional outcome I do. To Cronomer Valley, Clintondale and Modena FD, I say thank you as once again you have gone above and beyond assisting the Plattekill Fire Department and personally me when I need you most
And then the second incident… it hits Cronomer Valley pagers and you can tell by the sound of the dispatchers voice that this was not going to be an easy incident, period. It rang through the command post like the wind, and people moved and shuffled, all while keeping the integrity of command post in tact. With in minutes our pagers opened up as the request for the Plattekill Stand by’s to respond as part of this MVA is in our district… I can tell you through years of stand by’s in other peoples quarters its not often you catch a fatal incident that you knew from the get go was serious. To our Mutual Aid department stand bys last night, Modena and Orange Lake, thank you for covering us at this one as your help does not go unnoticed. Wallkill and Marlboro thank you for filling in for both incidents… for all of you I am truly grateful.
I have to tell you; lately Cronomer Valley and Plattekill have seen a lot in the last few days, almost like we have become one agency, working together like we are a very well oiled machine. It’s been a rough month for both agencies and all I can say to you is, keep your head up, like I tell our members, we are here to help the community. We are here to help each other. And while doing so, may run across an incident effect you and how you look at things, the people you may help may even be some one you know. I am thankful for the opportunity to work with you guys as we would do anything for you and you have done anything for us.

I hate that this site has become a "cut and paste" of links to newspaper articles.
Sure, we all check the local rags to see who has been to J O B S and stories associated with emergency services, so we all see them most of the time anyways...but what happened to actual e-conversations?
And where the F is George!?

I received word from my chief up here in St. Lawrence County, and he said that "The NYS Office of Fire Prevention and Control, as part of the Statewide Mutual Aid and Mobilization plan, has asked each county to canvass for available resources for deployment to NYS and Long Island area."
We are looking at sending an Engine down there within the next day or two and hope to be down there to help.

we have a diesel fuel pad for our apparatus so for us it shouldn't be an issue fueling the trucks; as for POV's they are on their own, whatever local gas stations are open is what they'll have to chose from.
