Yes that is Station 2 it was in as a spare and I know there are many commercial aerials but I was wondering have there been any other tandem axle quint/ non-quint 105' ft aerials like this.

I gotta admit, that spare Ford/Smeal is an interesting looking rig.

Talked to the chief about the new ladder way behind schedule parts were delayed and delivery is delayed in advance says truck wont be here till November. Also told me about the future trucks that will be bought in the next 3 years.

Ladder 33 has been the spare ladder in White Plains for as long as I can remember as im not that old so it operated until White Plains bought the Tower Ladder 6 they have now then it went strictly to spare. They were not assigned at the same time period as the one you see pictured above became a spare in 2009 when the new Ladder 32 came in replacing that truck which was 32. Also it is a Ford cab.

Hey I was just wondering has there ever been another ladder exactly like this one from White Plains as it is rare and very different. And I know it was done by the city but just wondering if there is another truck close or just like it.

I believe the exact make/model/style of the rig is unique to White Plains, but there are many aerials w/commercial chassis out there. Most I've seen are single-axle quints, like WPFD's old Ladder 34.
By the way, is that Station 2 on Ferris Ave.?

Man I miss the late 70's WP fleet, those Maxims were awesome. I went to Stepinac in the late 70's and I remember how cool that Maxim fleet looked. I also remember our fire drills, God forbid you opened your mouth during one of those. Back then we had a senior lounge in the basement where there was this nasty couch. You could smoke down there and of course that couch went up on day. I remember Engine 70 backing up to the basement window and pulling a booster line from the rear of the rig. We got our butts handed to us that afternoon. Sorry if that was off topic.

Went by the station and talked to the guys Engines 65 & 70 were at drill school at the time of the call so they couldnt make it. And Engine 74 is North White Plains not White Plains.

Tower Ladder 6 will stay until White Plains orders a new Tower Ladder in another maybe 3-5 years.

It indeed was a great stop by WPFD as only west side of the house i think suffered all the damage as the east was untouched so they got there fast and made a great stop. White Plains also wasnt understaffed if you see the IA they had all three ladder companies there three engines and a rescue they even put spares into service as the manpower either went up or was a last second decision. And lol at (x4093k) that isnt the newest Ladder 32 it is the 2009 one i think are ladder will probably be delayed just like this one was as it is coming from American Lafrance from what im hearing so we might have to sit tight for a while and keep using our modo use what you got and try to go with less.

While that may be true, you can not get parts from them. We have had to make replacement outrigger jack cylinders, door handles and dashboard/engine cover parts.
We have had parts on back order for over 9 months.
I wish WPFD good luck, even if ALF stays in the game, its going to be a long hard ride.

After a few years and two votes, the CAFS pumper that has been proposed by the truck committee was passed by the registered voters of the Wassaic Fire District and was sent out for bid, bids came back on Tuesday May 29th, the district received one bid from Firematic (they built our B.R.A.T), the bid proposal is being reviewed by the committee and the Fire District will decide at the meeting on June 13th, fingers crossed, this has been a very long process!

I really, really enjoyed having the Shoutbox at the top of the page. That way I could periodically refresh the page and see if there are any incidents of interest that I would want to turn the scanner on for.
Does anyone else support moving the Shoutbox back to the top?

Seth, if the article you read is the same one I am thinking of, it was about the ALF aero-chiefs and not the Pitman Snorkle. The Aero-Chiefs were known to be bulky, didnlt have a good foot print for the jack spread and would tip over, especially the larger lengths, if the operator did not foloow the correct operation guidelines. During the 70s, Snorkle was purchased by Figgie and ALF began using them.
  20. TheNewLadder32 liked a post in a topic by x635 in New Articulated Aerial by Spartan ERV
I would say that articulated aerials were at one time much more popular then they are now. In Westchester, I know Mount Vernon, Verplank and Bedford Hills had articulated platforms. Chicago basically invented the snorkel, but now only has one company that use them. Same thing with a lot of departments in New England. I was reading something the other day, they were very prone to accidents, though and attributed in LODD's from coast to coast.
Personally, I think they are great especially in tight urban areas with numerous obstacles or departments with complicated industrial facilites.
The con, is that they are really expensive to purchase and maintain, and in many cases, a very difficult device that requires a lot of training and experience to operate safely.

nice looking trucks dont put out fires or get u there. Like i said before most of the ferrara's that havent been delivered have been brought back to ferraras facility to have something worked out on them, they have this guard on the steering shaft near the pedels that guys have been getting htere foot caught on them when going from the brake to the accelerator and back to the brake with just work duty shoes on. It would be very difficult to drive with bunker pants on. We werent too impressed with the new rig

There was post 9/11 funding as well as initiatives under Clinton and Bush to increase staffing in emergency services..... funds that were "temporary" or "one time" and thus not available long term.......... And let's be honest..... individual departments that spend money on "toys" yet have inadequate resources for their day to day operations...... tankers, thermal imagers, etc. should be priorities...... not half the crap you see money spent on...... Volunteer departments should be County resources and not Town resources...... costs are out of control....... response times for volunteer fire departments are poor due to the nature of the beast...... property "rescue" is limited and thus there needs to be a better way...... we can all congratulate each other after a major fire but if nothing is left, what was the purpose..... priorities have to be directed toward a quick response and rescue..... putting out the "fire" is really less important since there is normally little left to "save" and rebuild...... everyone in a fire department should be capable of self critique and acknowledge where we could be more efficient..... anything that you purchase will need maintenance, repair and replacement..... this is often forgotten.......
