Police Officer Aaron Hess is a hero and saved lives the night that Criminal Danroy Henry attempted to run over Police Officers and may have killed civilians in the process. Its very simple:
    1) PO Hess = good guy.
    2) Criminal Henry = bad guy.
    Any questions?

If I could rep this post a thousand times, I would.
I'm so sick of this nonsense excuse for guys acting unprofessionally. They want the benefits of being considered an "employee" without the responsibilities. Like it or not you are in a position of public trust and you are held to a higher standard than the average citizen. And these are the same guys that say "career or volunteer doesn't matter, we're all the same." Legally, yes, you are the same. But you will only be viewed as equal by the general public when you act like a professional. That means training, that means demeanor, that means respect for your uniform and equipment. If you don't have any respect for yourself and your job then you can't expect anyone else to respect you.

I don't think anyone with a higher class felony should be allowed in any emergency service under any conditions...period. With action comes consequence...many wouldnt be able to get hired as a professional with their convictions..why should it not be the same standard on the volunteer side?

Use an all purpose cleaner like simple green, some water and a brush, spray, agitate and rinse. Then apply a protectant, Meguiars offers some of the best; available OTC at any auto parts store. Pressure washers work well too, but not as well as an apc.
That is the easiest way, you can get much more complicated (and spend a bunch of money on products).
Check out autogeek.net's forums for much much more information.

Would be nice if all these little towns would just give up their little kingdoms and consolidate for the betterment of the county. I know this is a crazy concept but it could be done over a short period of time. Seems like the mayors and chief's are dragging their feet cause no one wants to give up his little spot in the sandbox.

Note To efdcapt115 : The Pelham And Pelham Manor Career Staff Would Become Part Of FDNR Local 273 And The Pelham Manor Ladder Would Be A Quint So It Will Have The Ability To Put Water On A Fire Pending The Arrival Of Additional Engine Companies. There Is NO Hostility Towards Anyone Involved My Friend, Just A Suggestion That Westchester Has TOO Many Small Fire Departments That Are Hurting Financially And Could Do MUCH Better Consolidating With Larger Departments.

EMT-D and EMT-B are the same. When defibrillators first became popular (& part of NYS protocol), the "basic" EMT course was addended to include Defibrillation, and they were designating EMT's with the new material as "EMT-D's"

I think the problem that the upstate boys are missing, is that FDNY is an anomaly. They are the exception to every rule there is. These guys roll with fully staffed rigs, a superb compliment of tools, and a great scene support structure (ie. EMS, PD,..). I think that you (firstdueorback2bed) are confusing the real world with the FDNY world you live in that says all FD's are FDNY. Name another department in the WORLD that has this many fire houses and staffing? Oh that's right, THERE ARE NONE!! How you gonna handle this type of incident up there when a bus from Chinatown that is going to Woodbury Commons does the same thing? It is completely possible. Bet you will be showing up and after blowing chow for a little while from what you see in that bus, you will go back to your actual job and talk a big game about how you were at the "big one". Is Westchester's system a little out of whack? YA, but no more then any other department in this country. Most Westchester career FD's get more done with less then some of these Vols departments do with all their shiny new rigs and latest greatest little toys.

The guy who started this is a volunteer from Rockland county. He should worry about what would have happened if it happened on the N.Y.S. thruway. I'm sure N.Y.City would have been on the scene even if the accident was in Westchester.

Wow...no one kicking and screaming it demeans volunteer fire departments? Or firefighters?
That some of the funniest skits I've seen in a long time with taken some realistic situations and highlighting them to be funny.
Sage...I can only hope your actually adding to the comedy by your comments about the ToS. Its a frigging comedy segment. And if its mentioned that it reminds of a specific department. Then so be it.
And I was here long before the TOS were thrown around 15 times a day. I might have agreed with it somewhere along the line. But lets not forget this site is also kept afloat by donations. So by all means...keep going the direction this has been going for over a year now. Then the name can be changed to cake eater.com or rose colored glasses.com or lets pretend there really not issues.com . Enough already.

Yes, because they are. The high cost of Westcheser is due to out of control, egotistical people who could care less about the taxpayers, and politicans who can't plan for the future.
    I have a:
-Fully staffed career FD, with new apparatus and new stations planned and excellent response times. More training is required for firefighters down here then in Westchester. Some Engines are ALS first responders.
-COUNTY based operated EMS system with all dual Medic MICU ambulances, the medics respond from a station and start around $55,000 a year and a 23 year retirement pension, with excellent response times. They respond from dedicated EMS stations. Ambulances are replaced every two years.
-A Police Department that focuses on crime, and actually patrols proactively instead of reactively with excellent response times.
-Emergency services share an MDT system
    -Excellent School system
    -Abundant recreational oppurtunities
    -Abundant higher education oppurtunites
-New hospitals being built and opened
-DPW which is on the ball and takes care of problems quickly, and require education and continuing education
Where in Hartsdale, I paid for a Ladder truck that was falling apart and staffed by one firefighter/driver, down here for less taxes I have a 5 man Tower Ladder Quint in great condition that responds with a 4 man Engine company with a brand new Engine. Greenburgh ambulances have a high response time, weren't properly staffed, and often called mutual aid. Most ambulance calls took two police officers off the street for a couple of hours.
For half the taxes I was paying for in Greenburgh.
All this because it's not about the egos down here, and the governments have master planned for everything. Also, the community is very involved and the agencies make sure of that.
I agree with the expenses in Westchester, but these governments are getting more money in taxes the down here, yet the whole emergency services system is in shambles, and I don't see it ever getting better.
I feel the rigs that I comment on are really spec'd nicely, because they are. We have really well-spec'd rigs down here as well. Westchester has very old strutures, and very unique challenges. The taxpayers could really give a crap, and no department (FD-EMS-PD) wants to work together to eliminate redundancies and increase service. Things are never going to change because no one can get along.
Westchester is light years behind us......it's 2011, and having a unified MDT system still isn't a standard.
And, emergency service personel can afford to live in the communities they serve, and don't have to commute a couple of hours to get to work.
And that's just one of many reasons I moved down here.

Seth, you comment constently about how wonderful all the new rigs in Westchester are and how well they will serve the communitiies of Westchester. At the same time you moved away because of the high cost to live in Westchester. Part of the problem is every 1 square mile in Westchester keeps buying more fire apparatus than it can staff.
Westchester has 135 fire stations, 200 engine companies, 74 ladder companies, 37 rescue companies and at least 150 fire chiefs cars. The total replacement cost is estimated at $981,680,000.00
The average number of response is under 600 fire runs per year per dept. and each dept. has at least 3 rigs to handle those 600 runs (some as many as 15).
Now add EMS, PD, DPWs, Parks and the Schools and thats why our taxes are #1 in the country.
I was going to say: Seth you can't have it both ways. But the real issue is Westchester can't have it both ways.

We all have staffing issues. Did any other dept. respond to the scene other then WP and Larchmont? I can't really tell from the pics and video. I would assume you needed a number of engines to lay line to all the elevated water towers as well as to protect exposures. Great stop to the guys of NRFD. Could have lost the whole block on that one.

Haha ya I have been off for a while. I do enjoy the posts but a good number seem to just degrade into pissing matches. The ones flapping their gum's most likely are not dropping useful info. I will give a shout out to alsfirefighter, Remember585, Chief Flynn and Capt Benz, as well as yourself. These guys do add their wealth of knowledge to the site. I have read their posts many times and they ALWAYS have a great attitude and something positive to contribute.

Facebook is ok. Maybe it's the monday morning quarterbacking that needs to end. (ya i know that will never happen) People air there issue out and comment on how THEY would have done it. But THEY were most likely in bed or at home watching TV at the time. If you were not there you don't know what happened. And "I talked to a guy who was there.." is not gonna help you either. I do agree that more forums, including this one, have slipped from what they should be. There is a lot of guys flapping there gums and not enough exchanging useful information. The Incident Updates have become the most useful info on here. As a parting though remember that a lot of the facebook issue comes from these kids who shoot their mouths off about stuff and post info online. They are whats killing us on facebook. Most of the guys in my firehouse don't even have facebook accounts and a few don't even own computers.
