    OK where to begin:
Flake the kinks out your hose. in the door is not the time for a nozzle change. Also the combination tip works just fine if thats what you got on the hose. Don't just stand around. 1:00 min mark: don't leave your helmet on the ground and walk away from it. After 2:00 mark, is that sound electric wires arcing or just random background sounds the mic is picking up? don't shoor water at a sparking wire. No communications about venting. I will assume from the looks of things that a inside attack was not going down so it is not like you were cordinationg with a hose team 2:51 min in. Don't do that with your nozzle, ever 3:40 min in. Don't ask for more pressure if you have 20 kinks in your line. Unkink your line. Try not to let the fire get away from you door control Fire - don't just stare at it, put it out. alot of non-fighting going on here. Choose the right size hose for the job. Where is your 2 1/2"? Big fire means big water. OK i know some of these are kinda knit picky but i just gave it a quick watching. I am not gonna say you guys suck or that was horrible cause everyone in the county is working short staffed and heavily rely on mutaul aid. Was this firemen a probie? was it his first job? These are all things that change the way we view these "mistakes" . I would expect a fresh out FF1 kid to not know everything there is to know. He is gonna stand around and wait to be told. A seasoned guy is gonna get it done and move with purpose and speed.
I hope this is seen as constructive. I tried to give real advice and insight. All we can see is a snippit of the whole picture. clearly there is alot going on in this house (as seen form the smoke coming from otehr parts of house).

"The plan couldn't even get the votes of the estimated 100 volunteers of the Yorktown Heights Engine Company No. 1, which serves the district."
That is the most telling part of the entire story.

Is it really necessary to build a new Station that won't be manned 24/7/365? Maybe it's time for Yorktown to consider incorporating themselves into the Towns/Villages FD tests and take some of that $$$ to hire a handful of Career Guys if they're so worried about adequate Fire Protection and shorter response times. After all it is 2014, nothing wrong with having a Comb Dept.. Ive always wondered where much of the property tax revenue for some of these smaller Communities who have Volunteer FDs, VACs. Private Refuse Collecting Cos, etc. etc. goes? I believe Yorktown has a very small PD and was once told by a resident there, they only have 4-5 POs a shift, covering roughly 40 sq miles which is incomprehensible so I can't even imagine how a Volunteer FD can handle providing F/P for an area that large with adequate response times. JMO.

Would you call a critique Monday morning quarterbacking ? How can you learn from mistakes if they aren't discussed ? This is how we all learn from "low level volunteers" to the FDNY we all learn from mistakes that were made. Different people see different things in the video and each of them pointed it out. So take is as constructive criticism And if you think it's pre school about my leather helmet comment his actions speak for themselves just because he's wearing a leather helmet doesn't make him a better firefighter just makes him look like a poser. Maybe he should stop worrying about his image and worry more about his skills as a firefighter

It takes 20 seconds at most to remove a hose coupling, 40 if you change the nozzle. This guy walked around for a good minute 15 doing nothing. I personally have extinguished a basement fire alone, dragged 150 ft of preconnected line, one guy pumping water, me extinguishing. Not safe, but my neighbors house is still standing. This is a gross example of a lack of either fortitude or training.

You can not make turns in a private dwelling with a 2.5 try it you don't even need to flow water. And this fire was manageable before numb nuts decided to leave the front door open.

If you have 3 competent men on a line then a 2 1/2 isn't a problem. When you have guys that are having a hard time stretching a 1 3/4 line moving up to a 2 1/2 might be hard for them. They need a back to basic class just to go over the basics of stretching lines, choosing the right line for the conditions and building type, proper ventilation, door control and a few other things but mostly stretching a line an chasing kinks, kinks will reduce the amoun of prussure at the nozzle and it seems that there were numerous kinks.
Noticed in the video he was wearing a leather helmet I know it had nothing to do with his ability as a fireman but a lot people think it's a fashion show rather than justworrying about putting the fire out and having the nessecary skills to do such. Sorry just my pet peeve Even though I prefer my leather over my plastic helmet because it's more comfortable to me

One thing I noticed about the video is that it seemed a bit choppy. I assume that is due to editing, and having some bits removed for brevity. However that could make things worse as it actually shows more time between things shown on the video.

I think there are far more unprofessional things on the radio. Like, third tones for a crew... An EMT is needed....
XXXX on scene, working fire, retone for all available personnel...

I notice when 60 Control dispatches Squad 15, they say it extending the word, sounds like they are saying Squuuuaaaad. One of the Facebook Incident pages even types it like that when they have a job.
Is there anything behind that? Otherwise, it's kind of immature and unprofessional. I doubt 60 Control would do it intentionally, as the entire county can hear this and would wonder, like me, why it's said the way it is. And Greenville FD is very professional and I doubt they would intentionally tolerate that either.

I couldn't agree more. And with that we are teaching firefighters the wrong thing. We are teaching firefighters that the high heat environment is ok to operate in. In reality the we can get a concrete burn building much hotter than would be safe in a regular residential fire setting we are in real danger of flashover. With all we have learned in the last 15 years (Andy Fredericks and Black Fire to Mondern UL/NIST Research) we need to respect the voitility of todays fires. I'm not sure we're doing that with our current mehods. I'm not talking about throwing out the baby with the bath water here because live fire in a controlled environment is priceless. We just need to take a hard look at our methods.

Sorry, guys, I'll have to disagree. It's not Band-Aid repairs, it's. not an improper use of the bidding process. I was at the original dedication of the training center and it was one of the greatest things the county could do for the fire service.
So what happened to it? We wrecked it! Not once but over and over. Instead of following NFPA guidelines that allow for a maximum of 150lbs of Class A combustibles, we torched much more than that. We spalled the concrete and warped the steel doors and window shutters. All of this not for actual knowledge snd skills to be gained, but just to say {to no one who gives a crap) how macho we are because our fire was bigger than yours.
If you are not getting enough runs and want your helmet look salty, put in in your Barbecue grill and don't wreck a perfectly good Training Center again.

It seems like anytime anything needs work at WCDES facilities, a band aid solution has been put in place, that's often quickly outgrown.
The smokehouse and tower have been rehabbed and repaired extensively multiple over the past few years, and usually to fix the exact same things over and over. When I took Essentials in 1997, the tower and smoke house were condemned due to extensive deterioration. Wouldn't it be more cost effective in the long term just to knock both down, and build modern training structures? Have they built the taxpayer (strip mall) simulator that has been sitting in the budget requests for years yet?
I'm sorry, funding is good, but not using the funds wisely is wasteful and just takes away from true future improvements and enhancements.

I'm all for a good parade. I care about two things when it comes to them.
    1) Behave like a professional. Don't do anything to embarrass the uniform you are wearing.
    2) Ensure that your town/district has proper coverage. Parade in your reserve piece or a non specialty piece. I. E. don't take your only aerial or heavy rescue two counties away leaving your constituents without coverage that they have paid for and expect. Same goes for manpower.
Other than that, have at it!

Honestly I'd be worried about back injuries trying to pack hose in there.... You'd be standing without the ability to bend at the knees and dragging hose using nothing but your lower back as motive power... I'd rather have another few hundred feet and kneel to pack hose.
