Here's some logic that is similar to the pro-booster reel logic that I've been seeing in this thread.
We should also buy a few steamers and horse teams. You never know if there will be another gasoline shortage.
Of course we would have to add a chemical engine to our arsenal because it takes a while to build up a head of steam.

Lets get this strait: we are actually discussing booster lines. Really? Cmon people, when will you learn?

I alwys wore Dickies...especially once they came out with the "cell phone pocket" pant...but they arent BDU style.
I am more of a tradional style uniform, straight leg navy blue pants, light blue button down shirt with epaluts..not a fan of all the fancy ESU cop lookalike stuff they got going on now...

Wow, now keeping a vest more than 5 years is a BIG no-no. The liability protection you lose after that time is significant.

OMG, if it falls into the wrong hands, those people will be able to break into elevators all over the city and steal everything that is in those elevators.

I'm unwilling to blame any inanimate object for this crime, being a gun or a movie. So far I only count one person to blame for this ordeal, since the cops/feds are saying he acted alone..
I don't think infringing on ANY Constitutional rights (the 2nd OR the 1st) is the correct response to this kind of tragedy. Guns don't kill people, neither do movies or video games. I use all three and I've never killed anyone.
We as a nation need to stop deflecting the blame from the suspect to all these political issues that make us feel "uncomfortable" just because we can't comprehend why someone would do something like this. HE did it, HE'S the one responsible. I see more outrage in the news and online against gun owners/manufacturers, the government and the movie industry than I do against the animal who shot 71 people. There's something fundamentally wrong with THAT.

I learn a substantial amount from this site that I take to the kitchen table every week with both my Career and Volunteer Depts. Whether it be ideas for our next apparatus, or storage of equipment, even ideas on training. I learn something new everyday. Which can be difficult in a career where forgetting more then what is learned in the first place is fairly common.
    Stay safe brothers and sisters.
This site wouldn't have existed without Seth, so lets give him a shout.
    Have a good week.

    Within hours of this thread:
Location: Westchester County Aiport - Main Terminal (Rye Brook)
    Description Of Incident: Suspicious package
    Frequency: 46.26 (Dispatch), Fire 15, Fire 19, Fire 16, EMS 15, EMS 16, 155.310 (WCPD), 46.06 (PCFD), 155.895 (HPD/EMS), 155.625 (PCPD/EMS), ATC
11 different frequencies to respond and standby for what became a non-major incident.
How many would be needed if we had a major emergency?

Being from New Mexico, and A career wild land firefighter as of yesterday... this makes me laugh. Hard.
Not in a bad way... I just think you guys need to look to outside of the box for solutions. There are grants out there for small departments to get PPE. The same as would be for you to a new truck.
  23. FFBlaser liked a post in a topic by Dinosaur in Wildland/Brush Firefighting PPE
Bunker gear is designed for structural firefighting. Not brush/wildland firefighting. Why wouldn't you require the right PPE for the job? Jeans and long sleeves may be comfortable but they're not going to protect you from fire if it turns on you or conditions change.
You're right. We focus more on apparatus then we do on other important aspects of the job.
All it is is nomex material? Damn straight. It beats the hell out of jeans and t-shirts and I've seen too many FF wearing that at brush fires.
Your comments are not from a wildland FF. I'm sure if you had more wildland experience you wouldn't be so dismissive of the right PPE for the job.

Does anyone actually carry fire shelters or have real wildland firefighting training?
Just like everyone here criticizes those who do structural firefighting without the right training and equipment, I can't believe that anyone really thinks it's OK to do wildland firefighting in jeans.

    x129k likes it alot..LOL
LOOKS like a truck used to drive around on a high fenced ranch...the "hunters" sit on the bench seat and shoot from there..they usually have a horn system like the back step did back in the day...the driver stopped when he was signaled so the shooter can shoot..many of the ranches in Texas are fenced in and they have imported exotic animals such as audads and some african game that thrive in the southern texas land.
It is, in my opinion, not very sporting.
And yes - they appear to be built in dog kennels.
I do however get semi-chub from any fullsize IFS on 35's.
  25. FFBlaser liked a post in a topic by antiquefirelt in Fire Truck trips not just Joyrides
This is a little over the top as it requires that every member that "might" be called on to drive any apparatus be road tested on every apparatus. So if you area an assigned operator or could be assigned to drive in your company or through swaps, trades or fill ins, you have to be tested on every apparatus. For the Portland FD, this means upwards of 200 personnel will have to road test on every piece?
I'm not arguing against making drivers test out on apparatus and be better drivers, but the DOL takes a hard line on things like this but can't help with things that really effect firefighter safety such as minimum staffing.
The reference in the article about "Joyriding" likely comes from the Auburn Maine FD (small career FD) one of who's city councilor rode around following their apparatus "joyriding". Turns out he thought every time they were on the road without lights and sirens, it was a joyride, and made a video and a news story about it.
I'd be happier jumping through all their hoops if they'd help us secure the proper staffing to make the fireground safer, but that's just not a politically viable position for them.
